Allison felt slightly guilty to be as glad as she was to be away from her children. She took a deep breath and leaned comfortably back on her beach towel, feeling less and less guilty with each intake of the crisp beach air tinged with salt. The sea gulls calling in the distance was masked by the lapping of the water on the beach, a soothing sound that could lure her to sleep if she haven't just woken up from her afternoon nap.

She curled her toes, imagining the cool sea water on her feet but wasn't quite ready to get up to enjoy the water just yet. The marshmallow clouds were slightly grey through her dark sunglasses. She was hidden from the scorching sun by the giant beach umbrella set by the resort she had booked herself into for the weekend. She looked around herself casually, finding several other beachgoers in the distance. It was a little too cold still for the crowds to fill up the beach this time of year.

Not for the first time that day, she wondered what her children were doing and if her home would still be in one piece when she returns the next day. They were too old for babysitters, but she wondered if she should have gotten one nevertheless.

Trying not to think about them on a much deserved weekend off, she stretched her arms wide and reached for a sip of her glass of martini, sighing in pure bliss as the cool drink slipped down her throat passage into her empty stomach. She enjoyed the slight buzz she was sporting from the free flow alcohol the resort supplies her with, nodding with a loop-sided smile to the nice young gentleman who came to replace her drink every half hour or so.

"Are you here alone, ma'am?" he asked, exchanging her empty drink for a full one.< [...]
