Introducing The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden

THE GIRL WHO SAVED THE KING OF SWEDEN TELLS THE story of Nombeko, a fourteen-year-old girl growing up in the poor region of Soweto, South Africa. Nombeko was born during the apartheid in South Africa. She does not have hope for a bright future. What she does have, however, is an enormous amount of intelligence, wit, and charm.

One day, Nombeko is hit by a drunk driver. Because the man who hit her was white, the judge ruled in his favor. Nombeko is ordered to pay a fine because she caused the man to swerve as she walked out in front of him, according to the driver. She goes to work for the driver making atomic bombs. An extra bomb is made by accident in the factor, and Nombeko suggests hiding it.

In Sweden, Ingmar Qvist is constantly trying to meet the King of Sweden after an encounter with the King as a child. Ingmar goes to the palace but is chased away. He accidentally causes the King's car to drive off the road. No harm has come to the King, but Ingmar is humiliated. Ingmar now believes he must overthrow the King. He quits his job to home school his twins, Holger One and Holger Two.

Eventually, Nombeko becomes a Swedish refugee. She meets Holger Two in Sweden. Holger Two surprises Nombeko with his kindness. He brings Nombeko to the embassy to pick up a package of antelope meat from South Africa. To her surprise, when she opens the package, she discovers the bomb was sent to her by mistake, which prompts a Mossad agent to track Nombeko.
