Lisa stared at her bank account, randomly clicking on her mouse as she was lost in her thoughts.  She was getting dangerously close to being below the minimum balance required to keep her checking account free.  Her eye twitched as her mind raced, trying to figure out the math in her head.

Her boyfriend’s birthday was coming up and she knew exactly what he wanted, a shiny new iPad.  It angered her slightly that she had to be the one buying him and iPad for his birthday when she just got a Nordstrom gift card.  She wouldn’t have been as annoyed if the gift card had been at least over a hundred dollars.

Unfortunately, he was a poor graduate student, looking to get an MBA so that he could get the promotion opportunities that he had supposedly been missing on.  Lisa never understood why he quit his job as a consultant to go back to school.  Especially considering the fact that he was living with his parents to save money.  He had taken a part time job at a fast food restaurant to make some extra cash.

It was embarrassing for Lisa since she worked in the corporate world as a recruiter.  Not the highest paid job in the world, nor the most respected but it paid the bills... or so she thought.  Ever since her boyfriend, Norm, had gone for his MBA, the two had dug into her purse more often than his wallet.

She sighed and stared at her own corporate iPad.  Everyone had gotten one as a gift the year prior when her company had destroyed market expectations.  Ironically enough, their stock soon began falling the following year as they failed at achieving their financial goals.

Lisa wasn’t a big fan of the smartphone and tablet craze as it seemed to just take up time with useless games and other mind numbing apps.  She shook her head and pulled out a cleaning cloth as she noticed smudges all over the screen, no doubt from Norm’s greasy fingers.  Her anger rose slightly as she wiped the smudges, knowing full well that she told him to stop playing on the iPad.

It wasn’t hers, and there were corporate policies she had to follow.  After wiping the screen, she turned it on and opened the browser app.  She found it strange that it seemed to have several tabs already open while the pages loaded.

“Damn it, I told him to not surf on this,” Lisa grumbled.

Her eyes widened as the page fully loaded, showing an image of a blonde woman on her knees, a gigantic black member deep between her bright red lips.  Lisa panicked and dropped the iPad while her face flushed red.  She tapped away at the close button for the tab.

“Hey Lisa,” a voice called out from right outside her office.

Lisa continued tapping away at her screen as she heard footsteps get closer.  She looked up, her face bright red as Bill, her manager, popped his head in.

“Hey!  Hi Bill!”  Lisa exclaimed, her eyes darting from the screen to Bill and back.

“Wow, sounding real excited today.  You get a big catch?”  Bill asked as he stepped in.

“Uh... uh... yeah,” Lisa replied.

“I’m hoping it’s for that one hire for Jonas.  He’s been pestering me about that one guy his team interviewed for that Director position.  You said you’d work on it this week, uh... what was his name... Jackson, something Jackson,” Bill said.

“Laron Jackson,” Lisa informed.

“Yeah, Laron.  Jonas is really wanting to get him hired.  If you can get him, that bonus can be pretty big,” Bill said with a whistle.

She knew he was right, mainly due to the way they were paid.  Her salary was relatively low compared to other recruiters, however, she was given a bonus for new hires.  The bonus depended on various factors, such as how long a position was open for.

The largest factor for the bonus was based on how much the new employee would be paid.  She was given a percentage of their final offer, however, there was a caveat.  Each job posting had a set range of how much the company was willing to pay.

Staying on the lower range actually increased the percentage she would get.  Recruiting a new employee at the low salary range meant at least fifteen percent of the total offer, while at the high end of the range meant a measly one to three percent.  Lisa was normally successful at getting them right at the mid range and getting anywhere from five to eight percent of the offer package.

Laron, the latest hire she was going for, was at the Director level, which meant that getting him to sign on at the low range would be a big bump to her paycheck.  Lisa looked up [...]
