The story forwards over 20 years as the now-grown son Idris sets out to clear his father's name. As he does so, he meets and falls in love with Lorelie Riviere. Without revealing the intricate plot, it involves castle intrigue, duplicity, numerous murders, ancient history, treasure, boat wrecks, stage plays and psychic phenomenon.
