Dialed the Wrong Number

John worked at a prominent law firm in New York City as a commercial lawyer for the past five years. He loved his job and worked long hours to meet the needs of his clients. John’s busy schedule didn’t allow him to communicate with his wife as often as he would like to during the day. Sometimes, he would only be able to speak to her once if at all.

Tammie, John’s wife, worked at an accounting firm in Manhattan. She was also very busy but enjoyed those calls from her husband. Just to touch base was a sweet reminder of the love they shared. Tammie’s job was not as demanding as John’s, and she usually got off work at 5:00 and was home by 6:00 to start dinner. They did not allow their working schedules to disrupt the time to spend together as a couple. They enjoyed going to dinners, movies, and parties with friends.

On one of those busy days, John was working late for a client who was going before a judge the next day. In a hurry, he grabbed the phone and dialed his wife to say he would not be home in time for dinner. The called was answered, and he said, “Hi, Tammy, how’s your day?” Without waiting for a response, he continued, “Darling, I am having such a busy day; I don't know what time I’ll be home tonight.”

“Darling?” I know you dialed the wrong number. I have not been called darling for a very long time.” A very sweet and sultry voice replied.
