Once upon a time there was a witch called Miranda who had seven beautiful daughters. She lived with her seven daughters on top of the Seven Sisters Cliffs in the south of England. They had sailed across seven seas and now called this magical land their home.

Miranda’s second youngest daughter, Mimi, had just turned five and started school. Mimi was half-cat half-human and her personality was very catlike. She was agile, solitary and curious as all cats are. She had beautiful thick black fur and bewitching yellow eyes. Mimi, unlike most of her sisters, was a girly girl. She loved wearing dresses, placing bows and clips into her thick fur, and was excited to wear her school uniform. Especially the lovely bowler hat and the pleated grey skirt.

For the first few days of school Mimi was excited as she was getting dressed in the morning and Miranda could barely keep up with her daughter. However, after only a few weeks into the term, Mimi started to be much less enthusiastic about going to school. She started staying in bed, claiming to be sick and begging Miranda to let her stay at home.

Some days, Mimi even hid in the morning and Miranda and her siblings searched for hours before school started.

One day when she got back from school, she locked herself up in the bathroom saying that she wanted to take a bath. To Miranda’s surprise, when she came out of the bathroom, she had shaved off all the fur on her face, legs and arms. She had even shaved off her eyebrows and her whiskers. It looked so terrible, Miranda didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Shortly after this incident, Mimi began eating less and less and lost a lot of weight. After school she started locking herself in her room and didn’t want to come out. Miranda was desperate because she didn’t understand what was happening to her daughter. In her desperation, Miranda turned to her other daughters in the hope that Mimi had talked to one of her older sisters.

Unfortunately, Mimi was a loner. She barely needed anyone, and while she liked her sisters, she rarely shared her secrets with them.

“Mum, maybe you just need to go into Mimi’s world. Climb to the rooftop of her house and have a one-to-one with her. You know she always sits up there gazing at the moon for hours,” suggested Gabi, her oldest daughter.

Luckily, there was going to be a full moon that night and once it got dark, Miranda got her broom out and flew up to Mimi on top of the roof.

“I’ve missed talking to you,” Miranda said without hesitation, and sat next to her daughter. But Mimi didn’t respond, she just kept staring at the moon. “Are you finding it difficult to get up early in the morning?” Miranda enquired. But Mimi didn’t respond, she kept staring at the moon.
