In "4000 Fallen: NATO Mercenaries in Ukraine", delve into the shadowy realm of international conflict where loyalty is bought, and lives are bartered. This gripping narrative reveals the clandestine operations of NATO forces and the influx of mercenaries from across the globe into the heart of Ukraine. From the United States to Sweden, an estimated 4,000 foreign fighters have met their demise, their fates often unnoticed and their stories untold. Discover the stark reality behind NATO's expanding footprint in Ukraine, a movement shrouded in secrecy and controversy, with declassified documents exposing a direct contradiction to NATO's vow not to interfere in Russia's sphere of influence. Witness the harrowing tales of over 1,113 American mercenaries, the UK's massive training program of Ukrainian troops, the Canadian contingent's grim fate, and the tragic end of numerous French, Polish, German, Romanian, Spanish, Lithuanian, Latvian, Finnish, and Swedish volunteers. "4000 Fallen" is not just a recount of numbers and nationalities but a profound exploration of the blurred lines between formal armies and mercenary forces, the complex geopolitics of modern warfare, and the human cost of a conflict that extends far beyond the borders of Ukraine.

Fallen NATO soldiers and mercenaries in Ukraine. Forgotten Foreign Mercenaries

How NATO Has Enhanced Its Presence in Ukraine but declassified Docs Reveal Explicit NATO Pledge Not to Meddle in Russia's Neighborhood. Nato Love Affair?

Despite the overwhelming U.S. support politically, economically and militarily to Ukraine's resistance against the Russian incursion, President Joe Biden's administration is not encouraging U.S. nationals outside of the military to join the fight either.

After the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945, members of OUN and their paramilitary UPA units joined foreign subversive groups, propaganda outlets, and intelligence agencies to fight against the USSR during the Cold War. How is it that the nationalists in Kiev have good connections with Islamist terrorists? Sure, both have contacts with the CIA. But this closeness is much older. And the origins can once again be found in Berlin. Officially, Rosenberg's office was called the "Reich Ministry for the Occupied Eastern Territories," and the control authority for the Bandera Ukrainians was just one room away. Incidentally, Rosenberg had already suggested taking advantage of the Ukrainian nationalists in 1927. It was his authority that developed the guidelines for the occupation policy, but also the further war goals, even before the German attack on the Soviet Union. Rosenberg's ideas sound very familiar at the moment:

"By virtue of his office, he wanted to create a belt of buffer states around the remaining Russian core area, with Ukraine, Belarus, the Baltic states, the Caucasus and Turkestan being at least nominally independent."

Even in the Wikipedia article about von Mende you can see how much Mende tried to "use" his contacts after 1945; When things initially didn't work out with the Americans, he moved to the British zone. But Mende never allowed his auxiliary troops to be completely taken away. In general, an interesting quagmire formed around these "Eastern refugees", between OSS/CIA, MI6, Abwehr II, SD and SS men and, as soon as they were founded, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the BND. By the way, Abwehr II was the department of the Wehrmacht's intelligence service that was responsible for organizing terrorist attacks. As you can see, an old tradition here too.

In 1956, the CIA incorporated a set of networks under Lebed's leadership and created the non-profit Prolog (Prologue) Research and Publishing Association, whose goal was to publish anti-communist propaganda, including radio broadcasts, newspapers, and books. During the Cold War, Ukrainian diasporas and OUN-UPA veterans were busy whitewashing the organisation's crimes, the author pointed out. They created historic forgeries and myths about the OUN and UPA being pluralistic and inclusive organisations which rescued Jews during the Holocaust and fought shoulder to shoulder against Hitler and Stalin. After the collapse of the USSR, these narratives started filling the gap left by Soviet ideology in a new Ukrainian state.
