Invocation.

Harer nama harer nama harer namaiva kevalam, kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasty eva gatir anyatha.

“In this Age Of Kali there is no other means, no other means, no other means for self-realization than chanting the holy name, chanting the holy name, chanting the holy name of Lord Hari.”

(Sri Caitanya Caritamrita, Adi lila 17.21, quoted from Brhan-Naradiya Purana.)

Acknowledgement.

This book is the result of the kind inspiration of His Holiness Janananda Goswami, who took the time and let me tag along on his travels in Malaysia in the year 2004. Ten years after, still receiving his Harinama Newsletter, I was urged from within to keep this notebook in observance of World Holy Name Week.

Dandavat pranam, Hare Krishna.

Author's Note.

My dear Holy Names, if You have any plan for my existence, and if You desire it, please let that also become my desire, my goal, my conviction.

Foreword.

The holy names of Radha and Krishna, the Hare Krishna mahamantra, is the real wealth of this age. It is what keeps and maintains us. It is the true glue between devotees, to come together in kirtan or katha and just be servants of Krishna, plain and simple.

For me, chanting Hare Krishna is a service, a connection with my spiritual master, in this way aligning me with all the previous acharyas of this great Gaudya Vaishnava line, especially with our dear srila Prabhupada.

Although I am duty bound to chant Hare Krishna, there is more, much more, yet in my neophyte stage of devotional development, and particularly with all my material conditionings and misconceptions, these higher stages of real taste and relishment, although described as natural developments of chanting, are still to be revealed.

However, even though I am insignificant and poor in the grand scheme of spiritual reality, any king or beggar can experience true happiness and real connection through this chanting of Hare Krishna. If you have not tried it, you must. If you are a chanter, there is no other way, kalau nasty eva, but to continue.

I pray to be excused for any discrepancies or misunderstandings within these pages, for in all honesty I am compelled, like someone mad, to try to contribute at least something before my life is up, this time around.

Om tat sat, Hare Krishna.

Increased japa vrata. Jaya! But increased how? Numerical, or attentiveness?

Honestly speaking, for my level of mechanically drawing wind from the lungs, pressing it through stringy sound cords, vibrating tongue and shaping lips, all the while centering my attention around a false identification of bodies and objects, and of the mind, the mind most of all, more than anything.

Yes, in all honesty, my approach to japa vrata is mechanical.

Ever are the voices leading their lives, more or less, unchecked.

This kind of reflection, more or less indicating, of course, at least some feeble attempt at truly hearing,
