Introduction

When the disciples were filled with the Holy Ghost on the Day of Pentecost and spoke in diverse tongues, the people marveled, and some accused them of being drunk. In their defense, Peter voiced that they were not drunk, but what was taking place was what the prophet Joel had spoken concerning God pouring out His Spirit upon all flesh in the last days. For more than 2,000 years, we have been living in the last days.

Another verse that confirms we are living in the end times is a verse I have never heard any pastor, preacher, or evangelist reference. The Apostle Paul says in Hebrews 9:26 that Jesus needed to sacrifice himself only once at the end of the world to put away sin. Wow! Could that be any clearer? In sacrificing himself, Jesus made a way for man to come out of darkness and into the light in the time of the end.

Some might be a bit skeptical about what they are about to read since it occurred over a decade ago, but there are several reasons why it is now surfacing. One is that things are done according to God's perfect timing. Another is that there would be an addition to the first sign some years later, which is also chronicled in this book.

I had little to do with the first sign or miracle. My mother, Lucille Purvis, would be the recipient of that. This is why I thought it necessary to first defend her character before the critics and nay-sayers launch an attack against her and simultaneously destroy the hope of many people. She would neither have the knowledge nor the technology to carry out such a ruse.

I did, however, have the privilege of naming the photos. I chose Admonition because the cloud in the pictures you are about to see closely resembles the description of the angel in Revelation 10:1. It reads, “And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire.” This angel’s message for the earth's inhabitants was that they were running out of time because the end was near.

Unfortunately, the rainbow has taken on another meaning, and for that reason, I became apprehensive about using it. I decided to pray about it, but before I did, a passage came to mind: “let God be true, but every man a liar.”[1] I concluded that I am not going to be ashamed or allow myself to be condemned for using Scripture or the Word of God.

Keep in mind, though, that the cloud is not the actual angel in Revelation 10. The Tribulation will be well underway before that phase. I have been reading a lot of the Book of Revelation lately, and the first thing that came to mind when naming the pictures was this angel. Admonition was given to us to get our attention because the time is at hand.

I am very excited to share this book with you, and I hope you are just as excited to read it. I also hope that after you have read it, you will be transformed by the renewing of your mind for the better. That is my prayer.

Chapter 1

Knowing Mrs. Purvis

My mother has been a born-again Christian for as long as I can remember. When preparing to write this book, I asked her when she first got saved. She replied that she and her siblings used to listen to Christian programs on the radio when they were young, and that was when she first accepted Jesus as her Savior. She was about twelve years old and thought it important to add that she began attending church on her own then.

My mom was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but my dad was born in South Carolina. They would meet for the first time in Philadelphia when they were about seventeen years old and would soon marry and start a family. Four boys would be born first and then four girls. I am the sixth, but unfortunately, my father was no longer living with us by the time I was born.

Growing up, we went to church every Sunday and once during the week, and when we had no car, the entire family walked to a nearby church. Mom and her close friend, Aunt Emma, would also have church services in our backyard, where everyone was welcomed. They would also load up the Country Squire with kids from the neighborhood and make several trips to the city’s most renowned playground for kids in Fairmount Park called Playhouse in the Park, which still exists today.

My mother is the Christian she is today, partly because of Aunt Emma. She was a little older than Mom, and a strong woman of faith. I remember Mom telling me how that faith was tested when Aunt Emma had no money for food but still went to the grocery store to get groceries, believing God would make a way.

When she got to the register, money was lying on the counter, and no one knew where it came from. Mom didn’t mention the cashier’s reaction, but they obviously did not object to Aunt Emma picking the money up and using it to pay for her groceries. I could sense Mom's admiration for her as she was   telling me, especially when she said that it happened twice! She wasn’t just Mom’s friend, but also a mentor. Aunt Emma, her actual name, is with the Lord now.

As we got older, Mom began to do the things she didn't have the chance to do for starting a family so early. She went to night school and earned her diploma, which opened the door for her to get a good government job before becoming a secretary at a law firm, where she worked until she retired.

She continued her education by taking college classes at night, and she even took art classes for a while. She may have found inspiration through her mother, Dorothy Purvis, who worked at the Philadelphia Museum of Art until she retired. I will never forget, though, the yellow Chevy Camaro Mom bought when I was about thirteen, so she was about forty years old herself. It wasn’t new, maybe a 1972, but it was still the coolest car on the block.

Admonition isn’t the only supernatural occurrence my mother has experienced either. As she was leaving my sister’s hospital room for the last time, she spiritually saw an angel enter through the window and stand at her bedside. She also told me that while conversing with someone that a green snake appeared on the wall behind that person, warning her not to trust them. She doesn't talk about her visions unless asked because she doesn't think anyone would believe her, but I believe she was given this sign for such a time as this.

As you can see, my mother has been upright in her ways all her life. She has never used drugs or alcohol, doesn't use profanity, and has never remarried. Until about fifteen years ago, she voluntarily delivered food to the elderly, being elderly herself. When she could read well, she read her Bible every day and also prayed. She has been a faithful Christian for more than sixty-five years.

Touching my grandmother, we may have grown up underprivileged, but one thing we did have each year was a very Merry Christmas thanks to her. She was not only Santa for my brothers and sisters but also for our cousins who were in the same absentee father situation.

It is because of Grandma that I initially wanted to donate Admonition to the Philadelphia Museum of Art to be displayed in her honor. That is still my wish, but I now realize this is God’s doing. It should be available for all to see. If possible, it is now my desire for it to be donated and strategically placed at numerous art museums across the globe so that all might be blessed.

Chapter 2

Mom Needs a Vacation

Sometime in early February of 2013, there was talk of several family members driving down from Philadelphia to visit me in South Carolina for the 4th of July. My younger sister, Leslie, said a lot was happening and Mom needed to get away for a while. After enlightening me, I agreed that she could use a break.

However, when I would call several times after that, the chances of them coming down were getting slimmer and slimmer each time. Ultimately, everyone had changed their minds except for Mom. She was still wanting to come.

I was home the weekend of June 15th, and since I probably wouldn't be home again until the end of the month because I drove for a living at the time, I decided to get a few things done in case they did come down. It was about that time that a lot of mysterious things began to happen.

It started when I mowed the lawn that Sunday. Because my front and back yards are not entirely level, my hip began to hurt a little when I would push the mower up a grade or sideways on a slope. By the end of the day, it was hurting so badly that I couldn't sleep, and the next morning, I could barely walk. The refrigerator also stopped getting cold on that Monday again.
