Introduction

While we cannot deny the fact that Eve was responsible for changing the course of mankind and bringing sin into God’s otherwise perfect world, we also need to recognize God’s ability to love us as his children—both guys and gals.

God created women differently than men. No surprise there, right? But I’m talking about more than the obvious physical differences between men and women. Our psyche and emotional wiring are different. The way we process thoughts and memories is different. Our paternal instincts are different. These differences exist because God knows they need to in order for husbands and wives to have happy, healthy marriages. They also exist because God has different expectations for men and women in the Church and in our homes.

No, this doesn’t mean women are expected to be less obedient to God than men or that men don’t have a responsibility parent as actively as women. It simply means we are different—like flour and sugar. You can’t have one without the other and expect to make a cake, can you? Neither one is more important than the other—they’re just different.

Both society and the modern Church have made their own rules about what these differences mean and how we are to interpret them. The women’s liberation movement says a woman can do anything a man can do; doing it as well, if not better. Society says there should be no discrimination between men and women when it comes to jobs, voting, pay, and opportunities to do whatever it is we desire to do. Some denominations have embraced society’s views—even allowing women to be in the pulpit, while others won’t let women take any form of leadership role other than those involving small children and women-only groups. So which is right?

That shouldn’t really be the question. The question we should be asking ourselves is this: what is God saying to me as a woman? We should be asking ourselves what our LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ is saying to us through his Word and through the Holy Spirit. Hopefully this book will help you find the answers to these questions.

How to Use this Book

God has much to say to women through his Word, the Bible. He outlines our roles in the home as daughters, wives, and mothers, as well as our roles as women in the church. The Bible is also filled with the stories of women whose lives and experiences are valuable lessons to us in how and why we should live lives of faith and obedience to Christ. There are plenty of examples of what not to do, as well, but even these serve to lead us closer to the Savior.

The first half of the book is dedicated to teaching or reminding us what God’s Word has to say to us, as women. The second half of the book is dedicated to helping you take a closer look at your own life and to deciding how you can make God’s purpose for women more personal and relevant to your own life. The book is also designed in such a way that it can be used for personal Bible study and spiritual growth or in a group of women seeking to strengthen their relationship with each other as sisters in Christ as well as their own personal relationship with God.

Most of all this book is meant to bring glory to God and to remind readers that God is over all, in all and the creator of all; that he is, was, and always will be.
