Nightmare in Room 13

Billy and Annie were on a school trip with their classmates. Their teacher, Mr. Johnson, had arranged for them to stay in an old hotel by the sea in the north of England. The hotel was famous for its history—it was over 200 years old—but some people said it was haunted.

When they arrived, the students were assigned their rooms. Billy and Annie were best friends and so they wanted to share a room. They were given Room 13.

“Room 13?” Billy said, looking at the key. “Isn’t that an unlucky number?”

“Don’t be silly, Billy,” Annie laughed. “That’s just a superstition.”

Their friend George joined in, “I heard Room 13 in this hotel is really haunted!”

“Stop teasing, George,” Annie said, shaking her head.

That night, after dinner, they all went to their rooms. Billy and Annie were both excited but a little nervous about staying in Room 13.

Billy opened the door, and they stepped inside. The room was old but clean. The wind howled outside, and the wooden floor creaked.

“See, Billy? It’s just a room,” Annie said, trying to sound brave.

“Yeah,” Billy agreed, although he still felt uneasy.

They settled in and went to bed. Just as they were about to fall asleep, they heard a strange noise coming from the bathroom.

“What’s that?” Billy whispered.

“I don’t know,” Annie replied, her voice shaking. “Maybe it’s just the wind.”

They listened nervously for a while, but the noise stopped, so they fell asleep.

In the middle of the night, Billy woke up to a chilling cold in the room. He looked around and saw a shadow by the window.

“Annie, wake up!” he whispered, terrified.

“What’s wrong, Billy?” she asked, rubbing her eyes.

“There’s something by the window!” he said.

They both looked, but the shadow was gone.

“It must have been a dream,” Annie said, trying to calm Billy down.

But Billy couldn’t shake the feeling that something was not right.

The next day, they told George about what had happened.

“It’s the ghost of Room 13!” George exclaimed.

“Don’t start that again, George,” Annie said, although she seemed worried.

That night, the noises returned. This time, they were louder. There was a soft whispering sound and footsteps in the bathroom.

Billy and Annie were both wide awake, too scared to move.

“Maybe we should tell Mr. Johnson,” Annie suggested.

“No, he’ll think we’re just imagining things,” Billy replied.

Suddenly, the bathroom door creaked open, and a cold breeze filled the room. They heard a soft voice, “Leave this room.”

Billy and Annie screamed and ran out of Room 13, waking up everyone in the hotel.

Mr. Johnson came rushing over. “What happened?”

“There’s something in Room 13!” Billy cried.

They explained everything to Mr. Johnson, who looked concerned.

“We need to investigate,” he said, grabbing a flashlight.

They went back to Room 13, but everything was normal. The bathroom door was closed, and there were no signs of anything unusual.

“It must have been your imagination,” Mr. Johnson said, smiling at them.

But Billy and Annie knew what they had heard. They were too scared to go back to Room 13 and so Mr Johnson let them sleep in a different room.

The next day, the school trip was supposed to continue with a visit to the nearby museum, but as the students were leaving the hotel, Billy and Annie found themselves inexplicably drawn towards Room 13 once more.

“What’s happening?” Annie asked, her voice trembling, as an invisible force seemed to pull them towards the room.

“I don’t know, but I can’t resist it!” Billy replied, panic in his voice.

The door to Room 13 swung open on its own, and they were pulled inside. The door slammed shut behind them, and they found themselves trapped.

“Help! Help us!” Billy yelled, but his voice was muffled by the thick walls, and no one outside could hear.
