INITIATIVE TOOLS CITIZENSHIP INTERVENTION CERTIFICATION OF LANGUAGE SKILLS (CLIL)
Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is identified as a priority area in the Action Plan for Language Learning and Linguistic Diversity. According to the Regulation of the Italian Reform of the Higher Secondary School the initial training of teachers CLIL is submitted to the University Institution. The general overview of this project includes:
Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) involves teaching a curricular subject through the medium of a language other than that normally used.
The subject can be entirely unrelated to language learning, such as history lessons being taught in English in a school in Italy.
CLIL is taking place and has been found to be effective in all sectors of education from primary through adult and higher education.
Teachers working with CLIL are specialists in their own discipline rather than traditional language teachers. They are usually fluent speakers of the target language, bilingual or native speakers. The Key issue is that the learner is gaining new knowledge about the 'non-language' subject while encountering, using and learning the foreign language. The methodologies and approaches used are often linked to the subject area with the content leading the activities. So the teachers oppurtinies are:
Professional development opportunity not only limited to the learning of the methodology, but also the development of foreign language materials
Study of teaching through the Information Technology;
Communication and participation in the international network of teachers CLIL.
[Learning transferability] CLIL's multi-faceted approach can offer a variety of benefits. It:
builds intercultural knowledge and understanding;
develops intercultural communication skills;
develops multilingual interests and attitudes;
provides opportunities to study content through different perspectives;
allows learners more contact with the target language;
complements other subjects rather than competes with them;
diversifies methods and forms of classroom practice;
increases learners' motivation and confidence in both the language and the subject being taught.
The Initial methodoligal approach is:
Minimum 30 - Maximum 60 hours for the class (including individual interviews, entrance test, didactic intervention and ultimate Certification Exam).
The number of hours depends on the level of language proficiency to be certified according to the CEF (Common European Framework of Languages).
Note the minimum level to attend Clil course is “B2”
