Hundreds of job seekers lined up at the recruitment event on Friday with the hopes of being hired to fill roles at JFK and LaGuardia. The TSA offered $1 000 signing bonuses at the fair to those who were hired.

The Department of Sanitation is hosting a free children's bike swap on Saturday in Long Island City, as a part of an outdoor fair aimed at educating children about recycling. DonateNYC, an initiative of DSNY, will be holding the "Kids Reuse Fair" focused on recycling, swapping, and reusing babies' and kids' items with CultureLab LIC. Kids Ride Club, the organizer of the bike swap, is inviting parents to bring bikes that their children have outgrown to swap with parents for a properly fitted one.

Mount Sinai Queens celebrated the opening of its new Infusion Center. Infusion therapies provide treatment for many types of cancer, in addition to blood disorders, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, lupus, and osteoporosis, among other diseases. The new Infusion Center is expanding Mount Sinai's capacity for serving patients, from seven infusion chairs in the old facility to ten chairs.

The Rowan in Astoria has received its temporary certificate of occupancy and closings are now imminent. The 46-unit residential development is over 85 % sold, with a recent penthouse sale setting a new record for the highest price per square foot paid for a three-bedroom condominium in the neighborhood. Condominiums in the development range from 425 to 1 857 square feet with asking prices between $789 000 and $2 549 000.

Residents are fighting to prevent the demolition of a Rego Park Synagogue by telling the developer they don't want another high rise. More than 3 500 people have signed a petition so far in order to save the historic Ohr Natan Synagogue, formally the Trylon Theater, from demolition. A representative of the developer, RJ Capital Holdings, presented plans at a community board meeting to build a 15-story building with around 150 apartments, some affordable and commercial, and space for a synagogue.

Well, it´s not all beer and skittles. A woman waiting for help after her car was struck in Queens wound up getting shot in the leg during a crazed clash between rival tow truck companies. Susy Delgado, 48, called 911 after a speeding Range Rover slammed into her parked car at Sutter Ave. The tow truck workers who later showed up got into a fierce quarrel over who would get to tow Delgado's wrecked car, and the fight quickly escalated with one worker whipping a gat out of his pocket and firing multiple times before hitting his would-be customer instead.

The New York City Marathon returned from a pandemic pause. Albert Korir of Kenya won the New York City Marathon men's race, two years after coming in second. In the women's race, Peres Jepchirchir of Kenya pulled away at the entrance to Central Park and became the first woman to win a marathon major in the fall after winning an Olympic gold medal.

While the city Department of Investigation readies a much-anticipated watchdog report on the NYPD’s database of alleged gang members, a new City Council bill aims to abolish the list. “It will be a very straightforward bill that would make it so that the gang database will no longer exist,” said its sponsor, Councilmember Antonio Reynoso (D-Brooklyn).

Y know, these are golden times for gangs. Golden Sombrero thing. At the Tuesday rally in Lower Manhattan, the Grassroots Advocates for Neighborhood Groups & Solutions (GANGS) coalition called for the end to what members characterized as the “digital stop-and-frisk” of Black and Brown New Yorkers. 

The NYPD’s Criminal Group Database is currently estimated to hold records on 42 000 New Yorkers, some as young as 13-years-old.

The database grew by over 70 % during the de Blasio administration — adding an average of 342 New Yorkers per month.

Advocates at the rally said repercussions of inclusion in the database included harassment by cops, higher bail, tougher sentencing, as well as difficulty with finding housing and employment, and dealing with immigration issues. 

Thanks to the Dems' pressure, the people do not know where the gangs are, what gangs act, and how.

In this year, in the Bronx has been 3 683 robberies, assaults 5 808, burglaries 2 066, UCR rape 560, and shooting vic. 878, shooting inc. 484. But New Yorkers do not get anymore the list of real gangs in their neighborhood. Leftists have wiped them off the net and try to wipe them off from NYPD.

A federal raid on a Bronx apartment seized $4 million of suspected heroin and resulted in two arrests. The DEA's Tactical Diversion Squad New York made its Valentine´s Day. The arrests followed a months-long probe centered around 5775 Mosholu Ave., a six-story apartment building in North Riverdale.

The police didn´t find much: The apartment search after the men's ill-advised returns and arrests hours later uncovered 12 bricks of suspected heroin, a kilo press, money counter, three gats, and more than 200 cartridges of ammunition.

8.11. in Astoria has confirmed at least 25 COVID cases in the past week, making it the second NYC school to temporarily close this year. A public elementary school in Queens was forced to close its doors due to a COVID outbreak, becoming the city's second related closure since school started. Effective yesterday, P.S. 166, The Henry Gradstein School in Astoria, will be all-remote until Monday, Nov. 22. Between Nov. 2 and Nov. 8.

Brooklyn Dumpling Shop continues its domination of the New York food scene. The company announced that they have signed a deal to bring five franchises to Queens, as well as two to Staten Island. The "dumpling automat" offers a wide variety of flavors, ranging from classic pork to breakfast croissant-dumpling hybrids.

Police are looking for a subway rider who fractured another man's jaw inside the Roosevelt Avenue-Jackson Heights E subway station in Queens. Surveillance video shows the suspect pushing a 66-year-old victim to the ground on Oct. 31 in an unprovoked attack. The suspect is described as a male 5'6'' to 5'8'' and approximately 150 to 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue mask, blue headphones, a black jacket, black pants, and pink sneakers.

Two people were wounded in a shooting at a Queens bar that has previously drawn complaints from neighbors about their out-of-control patrons. The shooting happened outside Kloud Tequila Grill on Northern Boulevard and 193rd Street just before 2:30 am on Saturday. The bar's owner, Sal Khan, and a 29-year-old were shot and rushed to a local hospital in stable condition.

Some better news: Governor Hochul has announced the opening of the Long Island Rail Road Elmont Station, which is the first new LIRR station in almost 50 years. The station will be open for service beginning Nov. 20, initially offering eastbound service to the new home of the New York Islanders, UBS Arena, as well as nearby Belmont Park, which retains its own dedicated station. Service at the station will increase next summer when the westbound platform opens, at which time, the station will begin full-time year-round service to the local community and will begin to provide westbound service to and from events at UBS Arena and Belmont Park.

A man allegedly threatened to burn down a kosher bagel shop in Queens because of Israeli flags displayed at the business. The NYPD's Hate Crime Task Force is investigating after a man hurled hateful remarks at a 26-year-old worker and customers at Bagels & Co in Fresh Meadows.

Students and parents are fighting to reverse a decision after school administrators at the United Nations International School (Queens campus) announced it will be closing. The school has been educating kindergartners through eighth-graders for eight decades. If the campus closes, students instead will be bused an hour to the main campus in Manhattan.

Police are looking for two teens after they deployed a stun gun at PS 305 in Ridgewood on Thursday afternoon. Multiple students were checked by EMS and taken to the Wycoff Hospital for evaluation after the stun gun went off and hit a metal fence that other students were leaning against. Approximately eight kids whose ages range from eight to 10 years old said they felt a vibration against the fence, but they were not shocked.

A new tower in Queens is giving its residents access to an exclusive app that controls spire colors across the city. Sven, a 958-unit Durst Organization property in Long Island City will be the first building in New York where residents can illuminate the tops of city towers, such as the 300-foot spire at One Bryant Park in Midtown, with the tap of a finger. Every tenant will receive membership to Spireworks, a mobile app launched within Durst in 2017, that lets its users control the colors and effects that glow at the summits of select Durst buildings — including at the 71-story Sven itself.

Burbran Pierre, a recently retired NYPD police officer, has been charged with grand larceny and scheme to defraud for allegedly conning nearly a dozen would-be renters out of thousands of dollars. Pierre is accused of running a scam offering to rent his own rented basement apartment unit on 95th Street in Ozone Park between Dec. 2020 through May 2021, while he was actively working on the force.

Three NYC employees were busted in separate incidents on Thursday, including an off-duty NYPD officer in Queens. Officer Maurice Lemelin, 33, was busted just after 5 pm for allegedly selling steroid drugs. Lemelin, who was arrested in the confines of the 106th Precinct, which covers south-central Queens including Ozone Park and Howard Beach, was charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a controlled substance. The case is under investigation by the department's Internal Affairs Bureau.

More New York City schools were forced to close down this week amid mounting COVID-19 outbreaks, including multiple schools in Queens.

A teacher at Townsend Harris High School was fired this week after city investigators confirmed he had sex with a former female student. Though 53-year-old Joseph Canzoneri was recommended to be fired from his teaching position, the female student refused to testify at a hearing, so the case was dropped. The scandal remained under wraps until three weeks ago when an anonymous "concerned parent" leaked the case to teen journalists at the school's student newspaper. On Wednesday, the students filed a Freedom of Information Law request to authenticate the document, prompting swift action from the New York DOE.

The Queens Center Mall food court is getting a new Burmese restaurant. Food vendor Burmese Bites, a mainstay at the Queens Night Market, has expanded into a permanent restaurant at the Queens Center Mall food court. Their offerings range from palata dishes to tea leaf salad, and to Shan Kaukswe, with rice noodles, ground chicken, and peanuts.

A Queens man was sentenced for making violent threats online to assassinate Democratic officials in the wake of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. 37-year-old Brendan Hunt, of Ridgewood, was found guilty of his crimes in April 2021, which was the first trial to address the consequences of the assault on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. He has been sentenced to serve 19 months in prison.

New York City's rental car prices for Thanksgiving are the most expensive in the United States, according to a new study by FinanceBuzz. A single-day rental will cost $261.17 and a four-day trip is $1 044.67, the study found. Things look brighter for Christmas, however. New York City isn't in the top 15 most expensive cities for Christmas car rentals, the study states. That list is topped by Kona, Hawaii, at $194.82 a day. You know, Kamala Harris´ island gets no benefit from its first vice president's work. Two days afterward mayor-elect Eric Adams and Mayor Bill de Blasio jointly outlined new masking guidance and a vaccine mandate to fight against omicron. Police are searching for two men who are tied to a string of bank robberies in Western Queens. The alleged thieves have hit up to a dozen banks over the past month, including locations in Astoria, Long Island City, Maspeth, Corona, Flushing, Middle Village, and East Elmhurst – and made off with at least $17,800 cash. One of the suspects is described as being a light-skinned male in his mid-30s, with black hair and facial hair, and the other suspect is described as being light-skinned.   

Shocking footage posted to TikTok captured the moment a New York state trooper opened fire on a driver in a stolen car after he tried to flee on Sunday afternoon. The clip shows MTA Bridges and Tunnels officers stopping the 2021 Acura sedan in the Manhattan- and Bronx-bound lanes of the busy Queens span before the vehicle took off and slammed into a second uninvolved vehicle, which then struck a state trooper. A trooper fired round after round at the suspects' vehicle — but struck no one. Both the driver, Josue Viorato, 21, of Queens, and a 17-year-old passenger from the Bronx were taken into custody.

Astoria's Zenon Taverna has closed after serving the community for 33 years. The Greek-Cypriot taverna, located on 31st Avenue, closed its doors at the end of the day on Sunday, Nov. 28. The owners of the family-run business said they closed due to the challenges of running a small business.

Teachers and parents rallied in protest of overcrowded classrooms outside one of the largest public elementary schools in the nation on Thursday. The protest, which was among 200 held this week at schools across New York City by the United Federation of Teachers union, was held outside of PS 19 in Corona, which was also one of the city's previous COVID hot spots. Protestors want the City Council to vote and pass a bill that would change the city's health code to set capacity limits on the number of students taught in city classrooms based on square footage.

A schmear shortage is threatening one of New York City's most treasured local delicacies: a fresh bagel with cream cheese. Supply chain issues have plagued the United States for months, causing scarcities in everything from cars to running shoes. Now, bagel purveyors across the five boroughs are starting to feel the impacts as they scramble to find and hoard as much cream cheese as they can.

An 11-year-old boy is shaken after he was robbed in a Queens school bathroom by another young person who snuck inside and pointed a knife at the boy's chest. Police said the armed and unidentified individual gained entry to Robert A. Van Wyck Junior High School on Wednesday afternoon around 2:30 pm and tried to steal money from the boy, but he didn't have any. Police said after the suspect left the school, the assailant was accused of arguing with a 51-year-old man and lunging at the victim's throat with the knife, however, the weapon did not make contact with his neck.

Two cases of the COVID-19 variant Omicron have been detected in Queens, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Thursday. Two Queens residents are among five New York state residents who have confirmed cases of the Omicron variant, which was first identified in South Africa last month. Hochul, who joined Mayor Bill de Blasio at City Hall, said the other cases were found in Brooklyn, Suffolk County, and an unknown borough, however the vaccination status of each case is unknown.

An international Italian restaurant chain is opening in Long Island City next year. After facing delays, Serafina will open in the second half of 2022 inside the recently constructed Jackson Park complex, on the ground floor of the easternmost tower, situated on the corner of Queens Boulevard and Jackson Avenue. The three-tower, mixed-use Jackson Park development is located between 28-30 and 28-40 Jackson Ave.

And the November numbers also show a 97 % spike in reported hate crimes from 2020 to this year. There were 48 % more hate crimes against Jewish people and 357 percent more anti-Asian incidents, the data shows.

Well, NYC is not an exception of blue cities where the mayors tell that there is no crime problem. "It's extremely alarming that in the past seven weeks alone, we have had to issue five reward offers asking for information about violent antisemitic incidents," said Scott Richman, regional director for the Anti-Defamation League's New York and New Jersey office, said in a statement.

Still, De Blasio on Wednesday credited Commissioner Dermot Shea — who'll be retiring as the year ends — for embracing precision policing methods and community outreach that he said served as a model for police departments nationwide. "I honestly wouldn't change a thing," he said.

Crimes go up, and blue-state officials deny it.

Hundreds of events are rushing in NYC, and at the same time numbers of COVID cases are going up. The state gov. as well as Blasio keep a low profile and as they say try not to spread fear.

And NYC is among the first cities which are showing respect not just to George Floyd like police violence victims but also to illegal immigrants.

Mayor Bill de Blasio is expected to sign a measure extending voting rights to hundreds of thousands of non-citizens in the city.

A bill granting voting rights to non-citizen immigrants in New York City passed the Dems govern City Council. Council members approved the bill Thursday in a 34-14 vote that reflected the controversy surrounding it.
