Prologue

You know what?

The meaning of BTS is?

is… it has literal meaning of “BulleT proof Boy Scouts” or “Bang1)Tan boyS”. And in Korean, it stands for “Bang Tan So Nyeon Dan”.

What are we going to do with BTS?

I’m going to explain the name of BTS, its members and the title of albums released by them in Korean alphabet. And also let you know how to learn them easily. In fact, this is the main reason why I'm introducing this book to you.

What methods will help you memorize?

Usually in other books, they read, write, and memorize the basic letters in order, which seems too boring.

Here we're going to start with the letters, syllables we know and breakdown them to each element to learn, regardless of the order of it.

I will explain each element of letter to make it easier to memorize using similar pronunciation English words and pictures.

1) Be careful not to read it as [bæŋ]. It’s [baŋ].

The letters in [   ] are English phonetic symbols.

You know what?

Korean alphabet has a specific name.

In Korea, there is very unique writing alphabet called "Hangeul", which means "great letter”.

Hangeul is the only letter and writing system in the world where the inventor is known. The inventor was “King Sejong the great”, the fourth king of the Joseon Dynasty. It was invented in 1443 and promulgated in 1446.

Hangeul consists of just 24 basic letters that we combine to create all the syllables we need for Korea words. There are 14 basic consonants and 10 basic vowels.

All  consonants and vowels are sound-based characters, like alphabets in English. And so, each letter doesn’t have a specific meaning.

About the Author

I am a native Korean who was born, grew up and still living in Korea. But that doesn’t mean I am a Korean language teacher in the formal sense. Therefore, there is no such thing as a grand theory in this book. There is no grammar, too.

I don't even teach you how to learn Korean language. You will just learn how to read and write Hangeul easily that I came up with.

If you have any questions, ideas, suggestions or have found any errors in this book, please contact me by email below, then I’d like to reflect it in the next series with your name as a token of my appreciation.

Can you believe this?

The message from the inventor King Sejong the great,

“a wise men can acquaint themselves with it before the morning is over; even a stupid can learn it in the space of ten days”.

And today, Korean children spend weeks learning Hangeul in elementary school. Hangeul
