He is fake and pretentious and, as I’ve said before, you’d look good in anything. In fact, I’d go anywhere with you dressed exactly as you are now. The fact that I’d stunned him by my statement was adorable. He was adorable. And even though I knew he didn’t believe me; he did look good in anything. I knew that no matter what he wore, I’d never be embarrassed to be seen with him. He was perfect.

Through books we come into contact with everything important that has happened in the past, analyzing also current events and putting our thoughts together to predict the future. The book is a window to the world, acquiring valuable knowledge and sparking our vivid imagination. It is a means of entertainment and is generally seen as a best friend, or as a slave that carries together all valuable information for us. The book is a friend who stays together without demands, a friend you call upon at every moment and abandon when you want.
It accompanies us in the hours of boredom and loneliness, while at the same time it entertains us. In general, a book does not ask anything from us, while it waits patiently on a dusty shelf to give us its information, to get us out of dead ends and to travel us to magical worlds.
This may be the travel mission of our books. Abstract narration, weird or unconscious thoughts difficult to be understood, but always genuine and full of life experiences, these are stories of life that can’t be overlooked easily.
This may be the start of something amazing!
At first, I couldn’t focus on anything—all I could think about was Ian and how excited I was that he wanted to ask me out, but after fifteen minutes of pure daydreaming, I realized I hadn’t even checked the answering machine.
There were already four messages; two from low level support—I quickly took notes and posted them on the board—one from Rhonda, the main receptionist, informing me that Mrs. Dooley would be dropping by at twelve to bring my forgotten lunch—and one from Thelma. Apparently, I’d left my purse in Ms. Watkins office.
All in all, so far, not a banner brain day for me. I feared it would only get worse.
Immediately, I called Thelma back.
“Sorry it took so long to return your call, Thelma,” I said as soon as she picked up.
“I understand,” she replied. “You’ve had quite the busy morning. Sorry I missed you earlier. I had a doctor’s appointment and got to work late.”
“I missed seeing you, too.”
“We’ll remedy that later today. Just drop by anytime before or after lunch to grab your purse.”
“About that...I was wondering if Ms. Watkins would have about thirty minutes for me some time today. It’s about work.”
“Let me check...hmm...okay, it looks like she could squeeze you in between four and four-thirty. It might not be the whole thirty minutes so if you want to wait until tomorrow...”
“I’ll take it.”
“See you then.”
For the next hour and a half, I took some deep breaths and forced myself to concentrate on phone calls. It was definitely a Monday and the phone rang practically non-stop.
By ten, I was ready for a break.
“Coffee run...?” Ian questioned, joining me at my desk.
“Absolutely,” I said as I reached for the cup carrier.
“How has your day been?”
“Busy...yours...?”
“Busy,” he agreed as he punched the down button.
“Has something changed since this morning?” I asked in a tentative voice, the lack of expression in Ian’s voice sending doubts racing through my mind.
“No, why do you ask...?”
“You’re being awfully polite and...and...well...kind of impersonal.”
“As I said before, I don’t want to rush you or pressure you in any way.”
“But if I initiate a more personal conversation, that’s okay? Even during work hours...?”
“Of course it is; as long as it doesn’t interfere with our duties. It’s your call; I’ll follow your lead.”
“That hardly seems fair to you,” I said as we stepped into the elevator, “letting me control everything.”
“At this point, it’s the only way to do it.”
“Okay, then, would you like to know my plans for today?”
“Yes...if you wish to share them with me, that is.”
“First, I want to clear the air with Ben.”
“Sounds good.”
“At twelve, my roommate is dropping lunch by because I got off without my cooler this morning. I would like to introduce the two of you, if you don’t mind.”
“I’d love to meet your roommate.”
“Am I allowed to bring her up like I did Robert’s wife the other day?”
