About the Author

I was first asked to preach as a teenager in a youth meeting twenty two years ago. I actually got saved a few months before but I was so enthused about Christ and so full of Him in my life that preaching His word came naturally. At that first exposure of preaching to a small group of young people, who were all much older than I was, I found that I looked forward to ministering. I was not apprehensive. It felt quite natural to me that I was to preach God’s Word. And so I did. And I didn’t struggle with trying to impress anyone, or presenting well, I was only intent on pouring my heart out in the allotted time concerning what was on my heart and mind that night! I was not even concerned at the time about whether I had actually heard from God or if I had heard right – no, I had a word and it was like fire shut up in my bones. I had to tell it! And when the opportunity to preach came, I did not have to go look or seek for a message, I was already ready!

I was asked by our pastor – of our very small church back then – to preach at a cottage meeting a year later. The Monday before, I was rehearsing a sermon that God had given me and I knew I was going to be asked to preach soon. It turned out I was asked later that day to preach the next evening at our regular Tuesday evening cottage meeting.

Another year later I was asked to minister at another church in Colesberg and later that same year was asked to preach in our own local assembly Sunday morning service! Then I was asked to minister at a youth conference the next year and I’ve been preaching ever since.
