FOREWORD

This book contains forty one duas (prayers of Rasulullah) (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) which were gathered together by Hadrat Abdulmajid Hani (quddisa sirruhu). These are not only a collection of prayers but also keys to the tarbiya-i ma’nawiyya. Because when Rasulullah asked from AllahTa’ala, he defined both good deeds and ones that are to be avoided for us. Because of this, while we are reciting these duas, we also should not forget to ask for these wishes by our deeds and behaviours by acting in the proper way for Islam.

Hadrat Abdulmajid Hani (quddisa sirruh) was a member of Khalidiyya branch of the Naqshbandi tariqah. His grandfather, Muhammad bin Abdullah Hani (quddisa sirruhu) is a khalifa (deputy, successor) of Mawlana Khalid al-Baghdadi and also the author of an adab book, Bahjat us-Saniyya. Following his grandfather’s footsteps, Hadrat Abdulmajid Hani had occupied in Islamic sciences (ilm) and he wrote a valuable book named Hada’iqu’l-Wardiyya ( The Rose Garden of Naqshbandis). This work includes the lives, sayings and some tales (manaqib) of the persons in the Naqshbandi Silsila (chain) and this book is a selected part from Hada’iqu’l-Wardiyya. The author of this book especially pays attention to Rasulullah’s prayers when he writes about the life of our Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). So, when the author is recounting the life of Rasulullah, he quotes His duas too. By doing this, he wishes the readers to gain benefit from these nabawi duas which belong to the Prophet. May his prayers be a cure for the ma’nawi (spiritual) illnesses in our hearts.

We should be careful to not be in the state of ghaflah (unawareness, ignorance) during our prays. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) decreed:

“It is an obvious fact that Allah Ta’ala does not answer a person’s dua who prays but is unaware of what he/she wants.” 1

One day, Hadrat Musa (alayhissalam/peace be upon him) meets a man in the street who prays to Allah. Hadrat Musa says;

‘‘Ilahi, If I had the power to give what he wants, I would fulfill his wishes.’’ At that time, Allah reveals such to him:

‘‘I am more merciful towards him than you. He is praying to me, but is worried about his sheep. I do not answer my servant’s prayers whose heart is preoccupied with something else while asking from me.’’Hadrat Musa (alayhissalam) informs the man about this. Then, the man turns his very heart to Allah Ta’ala, prays, and gains his wish.2

We should fulfill certain requirements in order to expect our prayers to be answered. One of these is eating only halal food. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said to Sa`d ibn Abi Waqqas:3

‘Eat halal food, so that Allah may accept your duas.’ 4

Every dua has a return. We should not despair thinking that our prayers are not answered. Allah Ta’ala never rejects any muslim who prays to Him. He surely grants something in return. Either He accepts our wishes, or keeps us from a harm, or postpones the answer to the akhirah (Afterlife).
