The path of the righteous is as a shining light that shineth more and more, says Proverbs 4:18. A promise from God's Words I have only seen come to pass in my life as a few flickering light moments. Longer than a decade ago, I radically gave my life to Christ. The love I experienced was mind-blowing. Still, with the knowledge of the love of Christ, my life was a big mess. I was in burdensome financial debt, a people pleaser to the core, and severely wounded in my heart. So if you are experiencing the same, but maybe with other issues, this book can help you make the Bible applicable and see your life's path shine more and more. This book exists in three parts. The first part will help you get a clear view of who God is and how great He is because He is. The second part is focused on your thought life. The third part has everything to do with your actions. Through these three parts, you will be trained to put God's Word into action so that you can put it to action.

Introduction

The path of the righteous is as a shining light that shineth more and more. (Proverbs 4:18) A promise from God's Words I have only seen come to pass in my life as a few flickering light moments. Longer than a decade ago, I radically gave my life to Christ. The love I experienced was mind-blowing. I had never felt this kind of love before. It is not judgmental, only had good in mind and was for the rest of my life, and even after I would be dead and gone from this earth. I knew this love was not superficial; I realized this deep within my heart.

Still, with the knowledge of the love of Christ, my life was a big mess. I was in burdensome financial debt, a people pleaser to the core, and severely wounded in my heart. In addition, I was a heavy smoker, had problems with the hormones in my physical body, and every relationship I ever had with a man stranded.

Now I went to church, listened to preachings, went to prayer meetings, was involved in a busy church life, and saw church members regularly. My life was changing slightly, but the promised shining path was still dim. The more I read the Bible, the more I thought, what am I missing? What am I doing wrong? His Word is full of miracles, healings, financial blessings, straight forward actions of Jesus (Jesus didn't please anybody, only God!). Even raising people from the death would seem an everyday activity in the New Testament (Acts 9:36-42).

I would read all these things and try my best to be a 'good' believer, but I found it a bit abstract. I didn't know how to put the Word of God into action; I only saw manifested fruit and light once in a while. So I decided to go after it, what Jesus is telling us to do in Matthew 6:33; seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness.

Bit by bit, I understood more; gradually, I saw manifested fruit on a more regular basis. Now, don't get me wrong. I am not claiming I am there yet. Because I am not. The more I study the Word, the more I understand how much there is of what I don't know. The more I learn, the more I understand that I am as grass, one day here on earth, the next day withered away. (1 Peter 2:24,25) But I decided to fight the good fight of faith (1 Tim 6:12). And I am more than happy to help you fight your good fight of faith as well. Because, after all, we are the body of Christ. We all need to walk upon that glorious shining path!

So this book, what you have in your hand right now, is helping you to make the Bible applicable. If you are like me and find it all a bit abstract, there is hope.

This book exists in three parts. I will explain each part briefly.

The first part will help you get a clear view of who God is and how great He is because He is! Unfortunately, too many people have a negative perspective of Him. If you have, this will affect your whole belief system. Therefore, you need to have the right kind of knowledge of Him. After all, it is all about Him.

The second part is focused on your thought life. What you are thinking affects your actions. If your thinking is not correct or in line with the Word of God, your efforts also will fall out of line. This part will also help you how to change this for the better.

The third part has everything to do with your actions. In this part, you will find, besides teachings, a lot of small testimonies of how I did it. Once again, don't get me wrong; I am not saying that my way is the only way. Thank You, Jesus, it is not. But sometimes, it helps to see how other people are doing it. Because this helped me a lot as well. I would translate those testimonies I found of others to my life and act upon them. Hope you do the same.

The final thing I want you to know is that this is not a 'do these steps, and you get this and that book.' No, it isn't! God doesn't work that way. But still, to see manifestation in your life, you need to have some knowledge of the principles. For example, if you jump off a building, you will fall. This is because the principle of gravity starts to be put into action the minute you jump. The same is with God's principles of believing, giving, and many more. Therefore, it is essential for you to learn them.

Besides that, this book contains teachings; it is also a to-do book. For instance, if you have read the whole book and want to put things into action by speaking, you can browse to the confessions you find in the last chapter of this book. Or start to reread bits of part three. But if you need a clear update once again of who God is, you can go to part one all over afresh. I know I need it. Because life will always try to hit you, and if life isn't stretching you, the devil and his buddies will try to knock you down. They will do anything for you to buy into their lies and schemes. So don't buy the lies. Instead, soak yourself in the truth, which you can find in the Word of God, for God only speaks truth and cannot lie.

I take the privilege to bless you during reading and pray that the Holy Spirit, our Best Friend, will guide you. I pray and believe that you will see manifestation and fruit in your life through Him with all my heart!

Part 1

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

Genesis 1:1 KJV

Chapter 1 Righteousness, your own or His?

God is such a good God! I can spend hours talking to you about His goodness and how great He is. I am not the only one who thinks this way. If you open up the book of Psalms, you can read the many songs that have been written about His significance and importance. Yet, this was done under the Old Covenant. Where righteousness was something you needed to earn in the Old Testament through the Law.

What does righteousness mean? How does this work in the New Testament? I didn't understand this for a long time in my Christian life. Yet, the Bible talks about it more than, for example, about faith. Even Jesus is telling us that we need to actively search for it in Matthew 6:33 KJV: "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." It explicitly says that we need to search for His righteousness and not ours. So it is possible we can even act upon our own righteousness.

Before I can answer these questions, let's look at the meaning of the word righteousness. This means, according to the dictionary: acting in accord with divine or moral law, free from guilt or sin. But also 'right standing with God.'

That sounds like acting and doing much to get this right standing with Him, right? This "doing" was done in the Old Testament. With the New Testament, there are new 'rules' and a new 'covenant' effected. This new covenant is based upon love and receiving instead of doing and acting to gain God's love and righteousness. The rules from the New Testament are that you receive a new nature by faith, and His righteousness, absolutely for free and without you working for it.

There is a correlation between doing, acting, and right standing with God. But a lot of people get these mixed up. No matter how good you act and do, you can never earn this right standing. Even if you are walking upon water as Jesus did, healing everybody laying in hospitals, raising football fields of people from the death, or giving all your stuff to the poor. You can't get right standing with God through these actions or whatever actions you are doing. No, righteousness is a gift from God. It is only received through faith in Jesus Christ which we can read in Romans 5:17 KJV, "For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ." We got this from God because Jesus died on the cross for us and paid the price for all our sins. The ones we made in the past, we are currently doing, and the ones which we will be doing in the future. All sin, period.

You will produce good actions because you have faith in Jesus and have received this free gift of righteousness. You want to do good out of love. You have been changed in your heart because your spirit man is alive. However, actions can never lead to this righteousness, no matter what you do.

The focus of righteousness is a relationship with God, not actions. I don't know why, but we all sometimes fall into the trap that we need to have our actions right and earn this relationship at some point in our lives. I also fell for it many times. If you think about this, it is even a bit stupid. Righteousness was something that we couldn't get from our own doing the first place; why would this all change after you have received it? Sometimes we even know this with our heads, but this is all theoretical. For example, if I did something wrong that would go against the Word of God, I wouldn't pray or communicate to the Holy Spirit for a few days. Because I was doing it all wrong. I knew He loved me and knew I was forgiven of all sin with my head. I had what is called head knowledge. After going to a church service, I would be pumped up a bit, know I had done something right and would speak again to the Holy Spirit. I would be the one who judged if I could contact God or not. I would judge if I had right standing with Him by my own actions. Not the other way around.

I know this sounds familiar to a lot of people. This all, my friend, is self-righteousness. Because I was the one who decided that I paid the fine after a few days of doing something good. Who am I to judge? God is not even judging me because He gave me mercy to begin with. If He would act out of judgment, I wouldn't even be alive anymore because the truth is, I didn't deserve life in the first place. Jesus paid the fine for that, not me.

Whenever you find yourself in a situation where you are basing your relationship with God upon your actions is an act of self-righteousness. This is the same as filthy rags. The Bible teaches us this in Isaiah 64:6 KJV, "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away."

That might sound unfair to you. You may think that you can't do anything about this. And that is absolutely right! No one can equalize this because we all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. (Romans 3:22,23) Jesus not only died on the cross but suffered enormous pain. He wasn't even being recognized when He hung on the cross. Can you imagine what would happen if all the sins of this world were bestowed upon One Person? I believe that is the reason why He was marred. (Isaiah 52:14) Besides all this suffering, it was also dark for three hours. He screamed, 'My God, why have You forsaken Me.' Horrible! Do you know why He did this? Because of His love for you. Because the Father wants a good relationship with us. Now I am not saying this to make you feel guilty. It is just the truth. This is what the Bible teaches us. And yet, religion is focused upon action instead of His righteousness. That is a shame. Because actions will never work.

If you are focused on your actions, you will be sin conscious. And that will bring a lot of restlessness. It will look like you are constantly running without seeing the finish line. And with it, you are carrying a lot of burdens as well, which are called guilt, wants, and lack. Receiving His righteousness frees you from this sin consciousness. That is the greatest freedom a person can get. You are free from the fear of death, the devil, and everything else you put your trust in besides God. If you live out of His righteousness, you will receive a splendorous consciousness and His peace. You will learn that you are a child of God, as John 1:12 KJV says, "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." But without Jesus, no splendorous consciousness.

Why could Jesus get upon the cross and die as an offering? Because He is the Son of God. He is the only One who is in right standing with God. Nobody else could ever do the job. Because Jesus was God manifest in the flesh. He was holy, pure, and without sin. Yet, He became sin for you and me. Because of this, we got His righteousness as we can read in 2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV, "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." There is no other way to get His righteousness than believing in Jesus Christ. And please accept this free gift, which is His will for you. All He wants is to have a loving relationship with you!

Chapter 2The good plans!

God has good plans for you. He even has thoughts of peace of you. Let us read this in Jeremiah 29:11 KJV, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."

The word peace in this scripture is shalom in Hebrew, according to Strong's Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Which means besides peace also: safe, well, happy, friendly, welfare, (good) health, prosperity, fare, favor, friend, great, rest, salute.

As you can read this for yourself, these are many good things. I do not read that He thinks negatively towards you. Still, many people might believe that God is angry at them or that He is sitting upon a cloud looking whose life He can make miserable. Or even worse that He wants to teach them a lesson by throwing bad things upon them. I believe that a lot of this thinking comes from the teaching of Adam and Eve. The first two human beings God created and put them in the Garden of Eden. Many people might say that God was angry with them and sent them out of the Garden. Are you in for the truth? If you are, I have good news. Let's find out what scripture has to say about this.
