List of Moments
It is the moments when not you or anyone else can make sense of Something you cannot explain why or how it has happened. Here is my experience with as I call them God Moments.
My first God Moment I remember was around the age of three or four years old. We were visiting my uncle's house in El Paso, Texas. My uncle had a large swimming pool in the backyard where my sister and I had favored spending our time . On this particular
day in the pool Patricia, my sister was keeping an eye on me but needed to go to the bathroom so she asked me to stay in the shallow end of the pool. Knowing if I told her no she would have made me get out of the pool , so as a young boy wanting to get to stay in I told my sister I would but when she walked away my attention was drawn to the opposite end where my dad and uncle sat talking, smoking a Cuban cigar and drinking an old Milwaukee beer. I tried to get their attention by waving my arms and yelling but to no avail so I thought I would join them. I decided I wanted to start walking to the other end of the pool so on I went. After what seemed like only a couple minutes I got to the other end when I looked up to my dad looking down at me I tried to speak but bubbles came from my mouth with a loud gurgling “Hey, Dad!”they must have heard me on the surface of the water because when I started waving to him the funniest thing happened, suddenly I was seeing My father’s cigar falling from his mouth and the beer flying from his hand but he literally hit the water before his cigar and beer . Little did I know He hit the water to save my life. I was drowning.
Being that young, I had no idea I was in danger. However I did find out later on in life that I used to have the ability to hold my breath a lot longer than the majority of people.
(When my son died at two I took this moment as a God Moment because God knew I needed to know as I felt no danger when I was dying neither did he …!!
When I was of age for school my mother insisted upon me attending Catholic school. There I attended kindergarten through eighth grade and graduated. My family was from the faith and made sure my siblings and I were brought up in a Roman Catholic home.
Growing up we had lived next to Saint Luke's Catholic Church where my mother would without fail volunteer me to serve mass each morning at 6:30. My daily routine consisted of waking up to go help at the church , then getting myself to school. I would attend the eight o clock Mass, that was mandatory every morning at school,, that is twice a day I would be going to church and receive Holy Communion. When I took the the Host, it made me feel as if my whole body was full of Graces.I had so much of God's Grace in my heart that I gave them to each and every one of my friends in the form of compliments and encouragement. What I call these acts of service is Pocket Grace's. The goal was to cheer them up and make them feel better for the rest of the day. God Moments.
When I was young i was called Santa's Helper. Each year dad needed help to put the toys together before Christmas Day bikes, car sets, train sets and so on for my seven brothers and sisters.
After I would help my father I looked forward to the party my three friends and I threw together. We always got together on Christmas Eve and exchanged presents usually a fifth of alcohol or a beer.
This particular Christmas, my dad and I had a lot of work to do wrapping presents and so by the time I got to the party it was very late and everybody had already exchanged presents ( that meaning alcohol ).
Wanting to feel included I tried to catch up on the fun so I drank my fifth in about an hour. It was late in the night when I was leaving the party. I was drunk but knew there was about one mile to home.
I got into my dads car. In this moment God had given me this gut feeling. I had ignored it as I was going to get in trouble for being late as it was. Learning later in life that sure enough every time I had that familiar instinctual feeling things always went wrong.
