THE AFRICAN CHILD [A PURSUIT OF PASSION]
Introduction
According to recent statistics, in sub-Saharan Africa alone, a child is born less than every second, 72 children born every minute and about 4,344 every hour. This is where the journey of each child begins and given the varying differentiation in GDP and poverty prevalence in these countries the chances of every child born, counting as another mouth to feed becomes a survival of the fittest while there is still significant but reduced infant mortality in Africa compared to the past decade, many of these children make it into adolescence and subsequently become members of the community at large.
Childhood is where the discovery of talent and skills, aspirations and dreams are born and either actualized or dies an early or natural death dependent on a variety of factors including socio-economic status, civil unrest, ethnic cleansings, wars or famine and malnutrition as is still prevalent on many parts of the African continent. While, there are many factors that competes with the dreams and passions of the child and might seek to derail the creation of another solution to certain problems in the world. Africa has still seen the emergence of renowned stars who have left their incredible footprints in the sands of time and have lasting legacies that has formed inspiration stories for many African children or youth.
The African Child’s dream seeks to write a path outside the norms of the regular but not exclusive African child’s experience and the aim of the book is to be a beacon of inspiration, a guide and a compass for everyone from the adolescent to the parent or guardian who seeks to actualize realistic and solution bearing dreams. The book is not the run of the mill instruction guide but incorporates a unique story telling approach to paint vivid pictures of real life scenarios, ranging from dreams that were born in adversity and those that were products of both genius and tenacity. It seeks to write an inspiration in the mind of the reader, show a path to realizing buried or abandoned dreams and importantly seeks to advocate the cause of every African child and every African dream that is hidden in the heart of the young and old to ensure that just one more dream and one more aspiration would be the next to light up the world with a story that would make someone somewhere inspired and burning with a desire to use their gifts, dreams and passions to make the world a better place.
Prepare to go on an adventure that showcases all the phases and turns that are involved in writing your own unique African story and prepare to come out on the other side of these pages inspired and equipped to actualize that dream or to help your child become the next inspiration for the world and the African continent at large.

CHAPTER ONE [CONFLICT]
“You can do anything as long as you have the passion, the drive, and the support.”
~Sabrina Bryan
Set in the plains of Nigeria in Sub-Saharan Africa, fiddling with some pieces of clothes, sat a little girl day dreaming about becoming the world`s foremost African fashion designer. She has pictures of clothes with amazing designs in her mind. But suddenly, a shadow bears upon her, she heard a voice saying to her, “Get up! Go and pick up your books, I have told you to stop playing with those clothes”. This is the voice of the African parent, stifling the dream of the little child, killing the genius of the child in pursuit of the normal.
Throughout most of recorded history, people basically end up with a career their parents wants for them or simply do what their parents did. Most parents kill more dreams than anybody whether directly or indirectly. Now, some parents don`t kill their child`s dream because they want to, but because, they believe they possess much more experience, knows what`s relevant, and what`s best for their child. In the case of the girl whose dream to be a renowned fashion designer was strongly opposed by her parents. The great ideas she possessed that could produce a fashion genius in her slowly fade away with each and every scolding she got when she tries to push for her dream. Every parents wants the best for their child, but some parents sees that best from their point of view of what could produce the best result. These point of view are in most cases shaped by their experience, and not what the child has passion for.
