The Graveyard Digger

Most folks avoid the graveyard and I don’t blame them, because it is a sad place. A place, where you are confronted with the finality of live and more or less the memento mori concept of knowing, that one day, you will be lying there amongst the others, who have gone before you. This story is my personal experience with some very strange beings, who I cannot really describe, because I am no expert on zombies, monsters and cryptids, but I can tell you this, what I have experienced during my long hard work, could actually easily surpass the scariest horror movie, which you have ever seen.

I know, that most people, who work on the graveyard, will normally not share their experiences, for fear of ridicule, which normally would entail, if you were to tell your stories of paranormal phenomena, which most people still deny, but the truth is out there. Or why should thousands of people lie, who have had similar experiences to mine? Why should they, cui bono? How should they benefit and to what avail? Well, I don’t want to talk too much about the general phenomena, witnessed by many people and some paranormal researchers, I would like to commence with mine, because I have the feeling, that a soon retired man of 75 years, should let the world know, what he has seen and experienced personally. I firmly ascertain, that a personal view and a personal experience are of course individual perceptions, which may not be valid for society as a whole. On the other hand, I am convinced, that many individual and personal experiences can state, that there are many things, which exist, which most people cannot even envisage in their wildest dreams.

No, I am going to share some experiences to give you a glimpse of my world and how my work has changed my view on life as a whole. I would like to start when I had my first real decisive encounter with a creature, that looked a bit like a ghoul or something of that sort. I think it was the 5th of May in 1979 and I was working the night shift as usual, although this time everything was different, because the whole atmosphere of the graveyard was more somber and sadder than usual. At that time, I had been working for the x graveyard for a few months. I was transferred there after having worked in a cemetery, where I always had a day shift. I mention this detail “day-shift”, because it is of importance, at least according to my personal experience and knowledge, because there is something about the night, which gives these creatures courage to manifest themselves and therefore it is no coincidence, that they prefer the night time rather than the time, although I am sure, and I have heard these things from some good old colleagues of mine, that there are places, where even the light of the sun cannot prevent you from the grip of evil beings, but that is, in fact, another story, which I don’t want to expound upon right now.

On this day, the 5th of May, I began to work at around six o’ clock and at the beginning everything seemed to be smooth, although I could sense, that I was being watched, whilst I was digging the grave for some old lady, who died in a car crash a month ago. After I had dug that grave I was a bit tired as usual, because digging a grave is always very strenuous, and most people, who are couched potatoes nowadays, cannot fathom how difficult it is to dig a grave –– plus the fact, that my salary, my wage was very underpaid or should I say very poor. But I am not here to lament, why should I?
