Killing another human being is not an easy task on the psychological point of view. You have to have guts to do it. You have to have a very strong motive to carry out the killing. But even if you have a very strong motive you still think twice before doing it. But what about if the human being you plan to kill is your father? What strong motives (if any, indeed) can justify the murder of one’s own father? Find out on this short story why a young boy kills his own father and how nature punished him for his crime.

THE LAST JOURNEY
(A remote African village story)
Mantuala Catima got up very early that morning to prepare for the journey to town. Every month, for the last twenty-five years, he had been making that journey, taking fresh milk to town. He was one of the most successful cattle breeders in that remote African area and he was the only one in his village, and indeed in all the surrounding villages, that had enough milk cows to enable him to deliver one thousand litters of fresh milk to the nearest town, every month. The money he was getting from his milk, he would spend some of it on paying school-fees for his only son who was now twenty-three, some he would give his wife for buying food and other necessities for the home and the rest he would trade for gold.
The aim of the trip he was preparing to make now was somewhat different from that of other trips he had made before. In fact, this time he would not be carrying milk to the city, but gold. Yes, he would carry to town all the gold he had been saving for the last twenty-five years to trade it there for a beautiful house for his son who was thinking of getting married to a beautiful girl from the village. And he didn’t want him to settle in the village after getting married. He wanted to see him and his young wife living in town, where they could find jobs, schools and all kinds of opportunities for a better living. So, he would spend all his savings in one of the most beautiful houses in town for his son, who was the person he most loved in this world. But, of course, he wouldn’t tell him anything until he got married. It would be a surprise, a wonderful surprise to him.
