THE MURDER POLICE

On October 14, 2003, the citizens of Chicago were glued to their television sets watching the Cub's play the Florida Marlins in game five of the national league playoffs. Simultaneously, on the far south side of the city, two young struggling drug addicted women entered into an abandoned house for the purpose of having sex for drugs unaware that they would never leave again. The two men, with whom they met, go on a killing spree over the next few months killing many before the police become aware of their crimes. It is now a race between killers whose imminent plan is to kill again. “The Murder Police” must stop them before more innocent women get murdered. The language is real. The people are real. This story is real and it leaves you on the very edge of your seat with a racing spell bounded heart until its very end. This is one of many tragic true cases of Chicago’s finest…

In an attempt to convince the police he knows both gang leaders, he tells them who is next on the hit list, and he is right. He must work with the police from inside his prison cell without being discovered to keep his rank inside the gang. The Murder Police have been assigned to this case as the body counts hit six dead and counting. The Murder Police must work the streets and carry on clandestine meetings with a prisoner without the jail guards’ protection, as they cannot be trusted knowing what going on.

The police officers are angry and have decided to suspend the constitution. They have set upon the community with a vengeance. They are stopping, beating, and arresting innocent black men, and holding them in custody without trials until the killer is either captured or killed. The police have people afraid to leave their homes for fear of being arrested. The black community leaders have had enough and are now ready to fight back by any means necessary. The Murder Police has been assigned to the case and the race is on to catch the killers before they kill again while holding back the community before it explodes into a war zone.

Let’s See if She Still Thinks This is a Good Morning

Frenchie reached for the alarm clock after it brought her sleep to a halt again. “It’s 6:15 a.m. again!” she exclaimed. It’s a new day again. She knew she had slept more than she was supposed to. With just 15 minutes left to get ready for her daily workout session at 6:30 in the morning, she briskly dashed into the shower like an athlete ready for a 100m race. She wanted to get there on time. Realizing she would still need to take the elevator 10 stories down to the first floor, she had to rush everything.

She joined the class six months ago, when it first opened for residents of the building. The building was considered one of the top 10 of new constructions built in the new South Loop area.

The Chicago newspapers call it “twenty stories of upscale living at its best.” Starting with its many amenities: a 24-hour coffee shop, some quaint little boutiques, a heated rooftop pool, a spa surrounded by a patio area great for barbecuing with views of the downtown skyline and Lake Michigan, valet parking, and 24-hour security cameras covering the entire building to its marvelous design by one of Chicago’s top architects, a man who wanted to bring resort style living to the south side. Frenchie felt she deserves this lifestyle because of how hard she works every day without having an idea, like every police officer, which day she wouldn’t make it home.

She walks into the elevator, the doors close, and when they open, she steps out into the luxurious lobby which is complete with a doorman and a concierge at the front desk. She hurried through the lobby to her class without really exchanging pleasantries with people who crossed her path, heading straight into the workout room.

It was already 6:30 a.m. at that moment and Andre, the instructor, who was dressed in skin-tight leotards, was ready to start the class. He began by ordering everyone to loosen up by shaking their arms all the way down to their fingertips. As Frenchie started to loosen up, she couldn’t help herself from looking around the room, searching for familiar faces.

Ms. Dobbs stood in her usual space next to Frenchie, on her right side. Ms. Boone stood next to Ms. Dobbs. Situated in front of Frenchie is the assistant state’s attorney, Linda Cook. Although Frenchie and Linda had worked cases together, to call them friends would be a stretch. There were two men and three women whom she had never met before.

They must be new members of the class, she thought to herself.

Once it was made known that some single women who lived in the building were starting a workout class, the single men started showing up. But most of the people were coming because of Frenchie and Linda, who had been placing the flyers on every floor of the building. They are both good looking and single women who are in pretty good shape, and they showed up in class five days a week. Single men visit the workout center with the glimpse of hope that they would get to meet single women. And of course, a few of them achieved this mission over a cup of coffee or perhaps, a cocktail.

The workout only lasted for 30 minutes and at exactly 7:00 a.m., the class was already over. Frenchie and Linda left the room without saying a single word to each other; neither did they acknowledge other members of the workout session.

Knowing that they just had a few minutes left to shower and prepare for work, both ladies raced to the elevator. As the doors closed, they finally exchanged good morning pleasantries.

Linda looked at Frenchie in the eyes and asked, "Do you have a busy schedule today?”

Frenchie responded saying, "In this police business you don't know how your day is going to be until you show up at work!”

As Frenchie exits the elevator, Linda informed her that she has three major court cases scheduled for the day, and was dreading spending a full day in court.

As soon as Frenchie got into her apartment, she showered, dressed, and combed her hair. She then grabbed her gun belt and badge and headed out of the building at 7:30 a.m. On many occasions, Frenchie and Linda would meet in the elevator on their way down as they both head out to work. It seemed as if they were following the same routine to get to work on time.

The Area South Detective Division is only a 30-minute drive if the traffic is good, but on that fateful morning, three cars had been involved in an accident and Frenchie was forced to take the side street. As Frenchie drove down Michigan Avenue she passed by 26th and Michigan and noticed a number of police vehicles surrounded a medical building. She however, thinks to herself that this is Area One and therefore, not her problem so she continued onto the Dan Ryan Expressway, a straight shot to Area South.

After a short drive, she arrived at 8:15 a.m. and pulled into the parking lot at the rear of the station. She walked through the back door and opted to go by the front desk. Officer Wallace was working the desk, and Frenchie, feeling good about getting to work with a little time to spare, looked in Wallace’s direction and offered a very pleasant and cheerful, “Good morning."

Wallace responded, “Good morning,” in return.

As Frenchie made it into the second floor, she exchanged pleasantries with Detective Eugene Patterson who was walking in her direction. Detective Patterson then informed her that the Watch Commander Marcus White asked to see her in his office the very moment she arrives. Subsequently, he mumbled to himself, "After your meeting, let’s see if you still think this is going to be a good morning."

Frenchie walked into Commander White's office and asked, “What is going on boss?" White swiftly informed her that there was a hostage situation going on in a medical building at 26th Michigan Ave. and presently, she is the only hostage negotiator on duty in the city of Chicago.

Frenchie informed him that she had just passed the building on her way to work. The commander’s only words were to get down there right away and take Patterson with her. As Patterson approached her, she rolled her eyes at him before barking, "Let's go!"

Chapter 2

I JustWantedtoWorkPlain,

Old Everyday Murder Cases

They got inside the car and Patterson started the engine. “Are you going to tell me what’s going on now or do I have to wait until we get on the scene before you tell me what’s going on?” Frenchie asks Patterson, rolling her eyes at him.

So, Patterson in his own slow and meticulous way begins filling her in on what they had learned up to that point. “We have a white male, between 25-35 years old, holding his ex-wife hostage along with their 4-year-old son, and the doctor inside the clinic. The mother of the child has been threatening to take their son to Puerto Rico, where she was born. She was at the clinic with their son for the child’s flu shots before leaving the country for good. When the father showed up and confronted his ex-wife. The new boyfriend, tried to intervene, so the hostage taker pulled a gun and shot him in the chest. The father wants the boy to remain here with him and his new girlfriend of six months, who by the way, is with him on the scene. The new boyfriend has been taken to the hospital and now in surgery.” Frenchie takes a sigh and Patterson looks at her and asks, "Are you with me?"

Meanwhile, the only thing on Frenchie’s mind was: What a way to start my day! “Yeah, I am attentive,” Frenchie responded to Patterson. Do we have a phone line set up with the father?

“Yes, we do. In fact, they are waiting for you to start the negotiations.” Patterson replied.

Frenchie, with a look of disgust and frustration asked, "Do we have any background on the father? Like history of any arrests? Is he a citizen? Give me something to work with here!”

Instead of answering her, Patterson out of nowhere says, "The department asked me if I wanted to be a hostage negotiator and I said no. Yet, here I am. I just wanted to work plain old everyday murder cases. I hate this shit! So, now we got to talk nicely to this piece of shit and ask him to please lay down the gun, and please don't hurt your son, his mother, or the doctor. Please give me a break! I had other shit to do this morning. I needed to go shopping for my daughter who turns 10 tomorrow. How do I tell my baby girl that daddy didn't get her a birthday present because some shit-head was trying to kill his kid alongside his mother?”
