What are the punctuations? Punctuations are the marks that makes a text lot easier to read and understand. We have a whole lot of these marks from question mark up semi-colons. Let us look at collection of punctuation marks.

Semi-colon, is a long pause that balances two equally important, related or parallel ideas. It also indicates opposite ideas. It join two main clauses where there is no conjunction. A semi-colon may often be replaced by a full stop or by the conjunctions.
She went by a train; she would rather have flown.
In summer she swim; in winter she skates.
Colon, it indicates that a list, an explanation or an idea is following. It introduces a quotation. In script writing, a colon follow the speaker.
I need to buy the following items: lettuce, tomato, cucumber and carrots.
