Bane: Prequel

Bane clutched his champagne flute as he crossed his condo. Pushing past his friends making out in the hallway he continued on to the bathroom. It was a night of celebration and after two group tequila shots and three glasses of bubbly, he had to pee like a racehorse.

Turning the unlocked knob he entered the bathroom.

“Oh sorry,” he said finding Faiden at the sink.

“Nah, come in,” Faiden replied adjusting his hair in the mirror.

Bane paused momentarily taken aback. Bane hadn’t invited Faiden to his party. He certainly wanted him there, but Bane had only seen Faiden around campus.

It had taken Bane half of a semester to find out Faiden’s name and another year before they had interacted at all. Now Faiden was a senior while Bane was a junior and here Faiden was in Bane’s condo.

“Did you have to use the bathroom,” Faiden asked not budging from the mirror.

“Yeah, I do.”

“Then don’t let me stop you.”

Bane’s heart raced as he entered and closed the door. It was a small thing, but there was something erotic about the idea of taking out his dick in the same room as Faiden. Bane immediately became self-conscious and prayed that everything would come out in an impressive way. Bane hadn’t had to worry though, he really had to go.

“Congratulations,” Faiden said as Bane joined him at the sink.

“Thanks,” Bane acknowledged wondering who had told him.

“How much was your trust fund?”

Bane debated whether or not he should say. He barely knew him. But Bane wanted Faiden to like him and it was an impressive number.

“Five million,” Bane stated watching for the response on Faiden’s face.

“Nice. I can’t wait for my trust fund to open up.”

“When do you get it?”

“Twenty-five.”

“Wow,” Bane sympathized.

“Yeah. It’s thirty million so I guess grandpa thought that twenty-one would be too soon. Your parents set up yours, right?”

“Yeah.”

“Lucky you. I have to deal with the coot and his old world thinking. But you’re free now, right?”

“Well, I have the rest of this semester and then another year. But after that I’m free.”

“Why? You got your money. You’re free to do whatever you want.”

“You kidding? If I left university before I graduated, my parents would disown me.”

“But what does it matter? You have five million dollars. Do you know the type of life you could have with five million dollars?”

“I think you’re overestimating how much five million dollars is,” Bane replied.

“And I think you’re underestimating the amount of fun two guys could have without spending a penny.”

Bane felt his cock tingle. For a long time, Bane had had an unexplainable attraction towards guys. Sure, he was attracted to women as well. But a hot guy had a way of turning him on and making him weak in the knees. Faiden was the hottest guy that Bane had ever seen, and Bane was fairly sure that Faiden was flirting with him.

“Wouldn’t it be amazing if the two of us took off right now? We could travel the world. We could use your trust fund now and then when my trust fund opened in four years I could take over from there. We could live like princes.”

Faiden reached out and touched Bane’s wavy shoulder length hair. The sensation made Bane’s cock flinch hard. He could hardly believe what was happening. Without pulling away or discouraging what Faiden was doing, Bane responded.

“You don’t even know me. We’ve barely even talked before now.”

Faiden looked him in the eyes offering him a knowing smile.

“Your name is Bane Vanderbilt, the only son of Scott and Louise Vanderbilt. You grew up in Martha’s Vineyard. Freshman year you lived in Barrowman Hall and sophomore year you ditched your roommate and leased this place.

“For a short while you dated Mimi Carlson, but I suspect that you two broke up because you became bored with her. In fact, I’ll say that you’re bored of everyone at this party. Your soul dies a little every day that you have to wake up and drag yourself to class. And you die inside every time you have to make small talk with any of the visionless robots outside that door.

“Bane, we both know that you weren’t born to live like this. You were meant to be free. You were meant to travel the world and consume it like a fine cigar.”

Bane looked at Faiden shocked. He was right about everything. Bane used, what people referred as his “wicked smile,” as a mask to hide the slow death that he felt inside.

“How did you know all of that?” Bane asked shaken to his core.

“Because a guy that looks like you has a way of capturing my attention. And you, Bane, have captured my attention. You have had it for a very long time.”

Bane was ready to melt. His brick hard cock pushed on his pants fighting to get out.

“Let’s get out of here,” Faiden suggested.

“It’s my party,” Bane reminded him with a nervous chuckle.

“I don’t mean out of this party. I mean out of the life that we’re both pretending to live. Let’s go off and be the men who we were born to be. We’re princes. Let’s live like kings.”

Bane lost his breath staring at Faiden. Faiden’s words had awakened something within in him which he could no longer silence. Faiden had gotten his hook in him and there was nothing Bane could do to escape.

But Bane didn’t want to escape. He desperately wanted to run away with Faiden. He wanted what Faiden was offering. He wanted to be free.

Taylor looked up from his laptop exhausted from two straight hours of cramming for his midterm exams. He needed a break but he also needed a ‘B’ in Physics 201 to maintain his scholarship. That meant that he would have to ace the final exam.

Taylor looked around. The library was quiet but packed. Everyone had their head buried in a textbook or hidden behind a computer screen.

Rubbing the glare from his eyes he scanned the room again. Taylor thought about how no one there even knew he existed. It was a small college, yet somehow he had remained a faceless body in the crowd.

Taylor wasn’t one to complain about his anonymous status. In fact, he kind of preferred it that way. His father had taught him that people always looked for a weakness, and once they found it, they would beat you to death with it. Even from a young age, Taylor knew what his weakness was and there was no way that he was ever going to reveal it to anyone.

Taylor was about to return his gaze to his computer when something out of the corner of his eye drew his attention. He turned reflexively finding a guy from his physics class staring at him. Taylor didn’t know his name but he had caught the guy staring at him before. In the middle of class, his stare had made Taylor feel awkward, but now Taylor couldn’t get himself to turn away.

There was something comforting about the guy’s eyes. They seemed compassionate. The guy looked like the type of guy that Taylor wished he could be friends with. And just as he thought that, the guy got up, collected his belongings and headed towards him.

Taylor’s heart raced as the guy approached. He decided he had made a mistake by not looking away. He had revealed too much. Taylor lowered his eyes focusing on his screen. He longed for the ability to make himself invisible as much as he yearned for the guy to talk to him.

“Hey, you’re in my physics class, right?” the guy said standing across the desk from him.

Taylor’s heart thumped with exhilaration and dread. His body tingled with panic and developing a sudden lump in his throat, he didn’t want to look up in fear that he wouldn’t be able to speak.

“Taylor, right?”

It was then that Taylor looked up. He wasn’t sure how this guy could know his name. Taylor had been sure that no one knew his name.

“Yeah,” he acknowledged.

“Adam,” he said pointing at himself.

“Hey.” The single syllables were all that he could get out.

“Hey. I was wondering if you had any idea what the Hohenberg–Kohn theorem meant? Because I gotta tell ya, I was lost when Professor Polly explained it.”

“Shhh!” a girl hissed from the far end of Taylor’s shared desk.

“I understand it,” Taylor replied just louder than a whisper.

“Then do you think you can explain it to me?” the guy asked already moving to the empty seat next to him.

“I guess.”

“Thanks, man. I really appreciate this. I can’t fail this class.”

As the guy sat Taylor got a whiff of his scent. He had a musk that smelt weirdly alluring. He smelt like a man. Taylor liked it so much that it made him feel uncomfortable.

“So what do you wanna know about it?” Taylor asked forcing himself to look Adam in the eyes.

“Everything. Anything. Nothing about it makes sense to me. Why does it even exist?”

“It exists to make Hohenberg and Kohn feel good about themselves,” Taylor joked to his own surprise.

“Haha!” Adam barked drawing the attention of everyone in the room.

“Shhh!” the girl hissed again.

Adam put his hand over his mouth trying to contain himself.

Taylor’s face flushed having made Adam laugh. The sensation was thrilling. Suddenly unable to clamp down his thoughts he began to picture being friends with Adam. The thought immediately made his cock hard. Taylor considered running from the feeling, but for the first time in his life didn’t. And once he opened the gate to that feeling, a flood of others rushed in.

Taylor’s eyes darted around sneaking a peek at Adam’s flannel covered chest. Taylor had to admit that Adam was really hot. He was built like a football player, but there was something about him that was telling Taylor that Adam was just like him.

“Hey, how much longer are you planning on staying here?” Adam whispered.

“Why?” Taylor asked nervously.

“Because I think that the girl over there doesn’t want us talking.”

“I think I might be done for the night,” Taylor admitted giving in to his exhaustion.

“Then you wanna get out of here? I could walk you back to your place while you explain the theorem?”

“Okay,” Taylor agreed over his deafening heartbeat.

Taylor slowly stood hiding the bulge in his pants. Quickly sliding on his jacket, he packed up his laptop and followed Adam outside. The cold air hit Taylor’s face like a frying pan. He lowered his head, stuck his hands in his pocket and headed for the stairs.

“Watch out. It’s icy,” Adam said grabbing Taylor’s arm.

Taylor looked back at Adam surprised. He couldn’t believe that Adam had touched him. Why had he? Taylor was too scared to touch anyone, let alone another guy. What would people think? Who would see them touching?

Safely on the sidewalk, Adam let him go. By that time Taylor was shivering. He could blame it on the cold but that wasn’t why.

During the ten minute walk back to his dorm Taylor did his best to explain the theorem that he barely understood himself.

“You’re so smart,” Adam said when Taylor had finished and they were standing in front of his dorm.

Taylor felt lost. He wasn’t sure if he was supposed to invite Adam up. Was this the beginning of a friendship or was it something more.

“You got a girlfriend?” Adam asked startling Taylor.

“No,” he replied, his hard cock flinching under his jacket.

“That’s surprising.”

“Why?”

“A good-looking guy like you? You would think that you would have a girlfriend.”

Taylor blushed unsure of how to respond. He didn’t have a lot of experience in this area, but he was sure that Adam was flirting with him.

“Hey, what time are you going to lunch tomorrow?” Adam asked. “Maybe I could pick your brain a little more then.”

“I have an eleven o’clock class, so maybe twelve fifteen.”

“The café or Pearson?”

“The cafeteria.”

“Can I meet you?”

“Yeah, sure,” Taylor said with a smile.

“Cool. Then I’ll see you there,” Adam said backing away with a broad smile.

Taylor watched him leave and then ducked into his dorm. Entering his room he found his roommate. His roommate was never home, but this time, when Taylor desperately needed to jack off, he was there.

Taylor couldn’t sleep that night thinking about Adam. He wasn’t positive about it but Adam had to like him. Today wasn’t the first time he had caught the guy staring at him and this time he had come over to talk to him. What type of guy touches another guy and calls him good-looking if he isn’t interested in him?

The next day Taylor counted down the minutes to lunch. When it came, he practically sprinted from class to the cafeteria. Scanning the tables he spotted him. Seeing Adam look up and wave him over, Taylor felt his heart race before signaling that he would grab some food and join him.

Although they talked about physics, they also talked about a lot of other things. The chemistry between the two was unmistakable. Staying for an hour and a half, Adam left when he had to run to class, but they made plans to study together every night until the exam.

Though Taylor was nervous at first, the time he spent with Adam turned out to be magical. As Taylor had guessed, Adam was on the football team. He was also in the football fraternity but that didn’t reflect in his personality. Adam was a tantalizing mix of a frat boy and a genuine soul. It was while listening to Adam tell him about himself that Taylor learned the first of many life lessons, you can’t judge a book by its cover.

Within a week, Taylor knew that he was hooked. He liked Adam a lot and all indications were that Adam liked him back. He had never felt like this about anyone and Taylor’s soul screamed out to touch him. He desperately wanted to kiss him.

This wasn’t the time to be scared, so in an uncharacteristic show of confidence, Taylor came up with a plan. The following night when the two met in Adam’s room to study, Taylor would sit shoulder to shoulder with him. When the time was right, he was going to make a move. If Adam didn’t pull away, he was going to kiss him.

It would be the first real kiss of Taylor’s life. He couldn’t wait for it to happen. The time he had spent with Adam had told him that his father was wrong. He could show his weakness to others. They wouldn’t use it to hurt him.

That night when the two got together, Taylor sat next to Adam as planned. Adam seemed to be receptive to it even resting the textbook across both of their legs. Taylor’s pulse pounded in his ears waiting for the right moment. Adam’s body heat was engulfing him. Taylor struggled to find his breath.

When Adam’s arm accidently touched him and Adam didn’t remove it, Taylor decided that the moment was right. With panic screeching in his ears he locked eyes with Adam. Adam didn’t look away. Still barely able to breathe, Taylor slowly leaned over. Adam didn’t move. Then finally when their lips met and fireworks exploded in Taylor’s mind, Adam jerked away and looked at Taylor with disgust.

“What are you doing?” Adam protested.

“What do you mean? I thought…”

“What? You thought I was gay?” Adam spat in a panic.

“I don’t know. I just thought… Never mind.”

Horrified, Taylor packed up his stuff ready to run out. Adam jumped up placing himself between Taylor and the door.

“Wait, you thought I was a fag or something?”

“I didn’t think anything,” Taylor said wanting desperately to leave.

“No, you thought I was some type of queer.”

Taylor tried to push past Adam. Adam wouldn’t let him.

“Just let me go.”

“I’m not some type of fag,” he said with building anger.

“I just wanna go.”

“Say I’m not a fag.”

“Just let me go.”

“Say it!” Adam shouted. “Say it!”

When Taylor didn’t, Adam struck him in the face and continued to strike him until Taylor was curled in a ball on the ground.

Six months after dropping out of university, Bane found himself dancing at a nightclub in Barcelona, Spain. Three sangrias deep, he looked around for Faiden. He had been out there with him but had now been gone for two songs.

Bane headed back to the bar spotting Faiden talking to a woman. She looked like every woman Faiden had slept with since they had left school. Watching Faiden with a woman was painful, but Faiden had never claimed to be anything other than straight. Bane paused wondering if he should go over or if he should look for his own Spanish beauty to spend the night with.

About to turn around, Faiden lifted his hand waving him over. Bane approached not allowing Faiden’s exploits to bring him down again.

“This is Maria,” Faiden yelled over the music.

“Nice to meet you,” Bane replied not shaking her hand.

“Hola,” Maria said with a wave.

“She’s beautiful, right?” Faiden said as if she wasn’t there.

Bane looked at her for a response and noticed a blush.

“Don’t worry she doesn’t understand a word we’re saying.” Faiden turned to her. “Un poco de Inglés, ¿ sí?”

“Un poco,” Maria repeated.

Faiden looked at her as he talked to Bane. “I pointed you out and she said she liked you.”

“Yeah?” Bane replied surprised.

“Yeah. I think she’s up for some fun.”

“What kind of fun?” Bane asked unsure of what Faiden was saying.

“All kinds. Get to know her. I’m going to hit the can.”

Faiden walked away leaving the two alone. Maria smiled looking at Bane. Bane flashed her his megawatt smile and she blushed.

Maria was the first to speak. “Faiden is muy – handsome, no?”

Bane’s smile didn’t change but he no longer felt like smiling.

“Sí, very handsome.”

“You… kiss him?”

Bane froze. “Have I kissed him?”

“Sí,” she asked still blushing.

“No, I’ve never kissed him,” he replied shocked by what she was asking.

“You kiss me. I kiss him. So you kiss him,” she said before searching her mind for other words.

“You want me to kiss you?” Bane asked confused.

“Yes!” she said excitedly.

Bane wasn’t sure what was going on, but he wasn’t about to turn down a beautiful woman’s request for a kiss. Bane chuckled, stepped in closer, grabbed the back of her neck and pressed his lips to hers. Maria didn’t stand passively. Touching the side of his face, she moved closer to him twirling her tongue in search of his.

Bane liked it. Slipping his hand on her back he felt her hand grab his and slide it down to her ass. Bane cock began to grow hard. As it did he pulled her body against it. She squealed. Bane let her go not sure if he had taken it too far.

It was as Maria stared excitedly at Bane that Faiden returned. She said something to him in Spanish. Faiden looked down at Bane’s cock and smirked.

“We should go,” Faiden insisted.

“Where are we going?” Bane asked.

“To the moon,” Faiden replied with a smile.

Catching a cab the three arrived back at the men’s apartment. Faiden entered immediately escorting Maria back to his bedroom. Bane slowed wondering what he was supposed to do.

“You coming or what?” Faiden asked to Bane’s surprise.

“Okay.”

Bane felt his cock grow hard as he walked the hallway to Faiden’s room. He felt like he was on fire. Wafts of heat pulsed from him and his heart thundered mercilessly in his chest.

When Bane stepped through the door, the two were already sitting on the bed. Bane joined them. Their bodies were close. Maria, who was a bright red, turned to Faiden and kissed him. Their tongues danced, and when she was done she then pointed at Bane and directed him towards Faiden.

It was then that Bane understood what she had said to him at the bar. First she would kiss Bane, then she would kiss Faiden. After that, he and Faiden were supposed to kiss.

Bane’s heart raced. He had wanted to kiss Faiden for so long but after his initial flirtation, Faiden had never made a move. That ended when Faiden clamped his hand around the back of Bane’s neck and kissed him hard.

Bane mind exploded with pleasure. Faiden’s firm lips dominated his. Their tongues darted across the others making Bane lightheaded. Bane was wildly turned on.

Prying their lips apart, Faiden held their two foreheads together. Panting, Faiden said, “I’ve been waiting a long time to do that.”

“Me too,” Bane said catching his breath.

“Do you know what she said to me in Spanish back at the bar?”

“What did she say?” Bane asked.

“She said that you had a big cock.”

Bane laughed embarrassed. “I guess.”

“How big?”

“It’s big enough.”

“You ever fuck a guy with that cock?”

“No,” Bane said, his heart rate increasing.

“You wanna fuck me?”

Bane lost his breath for a moment. “Yeah.”

“Then fuck me.”

Bane, feeling his cock throb, grabbed Faiden’s chin and locked onto his lips. Quickly stripping Faiden of his clothes, Faiden did the same to Maria. Getting the hint, Bane switched to kissing her. Holding her naked breast with one hand and Faiden’s bare ass with the other, Bane was in heaven.

What followed was beyond what Bane had ever dreamed. His hard cock penetrated Faiden’s tight ass before filling Maria’s wanting pussy. The two beauties beneath him squirmed. And when Faiden climbed on top of Maria, Bane re-entered Faiden’s ass and lived every fantasy he had had over the last three years. Faiden was finally his. Everything he had done to get him was unquestionably worth it.

The next morning when both men awoke, Maria was already gone. Laying on his back both men noticed Bane’s erect cock. Bane looked at Faiden wantonly. Rolling towards him, Faiden stopped him in his tracks.

“Only when there’s a woman. Never without a woman,” Faiden stated firmly.

Bane slowly rolled back to his side of the bed. His heart broke. He had come so close to having everything he had ever wanted, and like that, it was snatched away. He tried to hide how much Faiden’s demand had injured him. Having Faiden so close and not being able to touch him tore him apart.

Two years after graduating from college, Taylor landed a job with a pressure pipe company in Los Angeles. It wasn’t a glamorous job, but it was well paid and in his field. The company had even paid his relocation costs.

The weekend after he moved he went to a local coffee shop. Watching the couples enter and leave, he realized that his life had to change. After what happened with Adam, he had become even more cautious about revealing himself. But it had its effect. Taylor felt a loneliness that bore through him leaving him agonizingly empty.

As dangerous as it was, Taylor knew that he had to open the door to his heart at least a little. ‘With whom?’ was the question.

Taylor looked around the room and saw a guy sitting at a table by himself. He was Taylor’s age and objectively good looking. He looked like the type of guy that Taylor would think about in moments of weakness.

He was casually dressed and masculine. He was reading a book, so he was probably literate. He was the type of guy that Taylor could picture himself having a future with if he was into guys, which he now doubted that he was. Adam had cured him of that.

Taylor would never forget what it felt like to be curled on the ground while someone he trusted pummeled him. It was scary and painful. It was torturous beyond the physical discomfort. It was soul-destroying. It was humiliating and it taught him that he should never stray from the straight and narrow no matter what.

What was truly unsettling, though, was how Adam reacted to him after that. Sure, they stopped studying together, but physics 201 wasn’t the last class they had together. Often times in the middle of a lecture Taylor would have the feeling that someone was staring at him and then look around finding Adam’s gaze. This was what happened before they studied together and what had initially made Taylor believe that Adam was into him.

Taylor didn’t understand what Adam’s staring meant. If it didn’t mean that he was interested in him, then what? The confusion rattled Taylor for a long time. It made him feel that he didn’t understand people. And if he couldn’t trust himself to make safe decisions, he couldn’t trust his ability to keep himself safe.

Taylor looked away from the coffee drinking man and spotted a woman who was also sitting by herself. She too was reading a book, and unlike the guy, she looked up at him and smiled.

For a moment Taylor wondered if she had intentionally smiled at him. Subtly, Taylor looked behind him and found no one there. He decided that she was definitely smiling at him. Why, though? Why would any woman smile at him?

Taylor left the coffee shop further considering the young woman’s gaze. It took him the walk back home before he considered that she could have been interested in him. It was a revelation. For a long time, he hadn’t even entertained the idea that a girl could like him in that way.

Taylor knew what he thought about when he was in bed in the dark. He had thought that those fantasies would make him ineligible of any woman’s love. But that was before the hole in his heart had eroded into a canyon.

He desperately needed human contact and if women would give it to him, then he would accept it. At this point it was a matter of survival, because if he didn’t feel love soon, he was sure that he would die. He would simply have to lock away the unacceptable parts of his desire and throw away the key. He could never allow himself to feel those feelings again. He would pretend like what had happened with Adam had never occurred.

That was how he would fill the gaping hole in his life. He would have to constantly monitor every thought he had and regulate everything he said, but it was doable. He could be in a relationship with a woman. And considering his previous feelings for girls, it wouldn’t even be that much of a lie.

“You and I are sharks. If we stop moving, we die,” Faiden had always said.

Bane believed it and it was that philosophy that propelled them from Barcelona to Milan to Paris to London and then to Hong Kong. It was in New York, however, that Bane learned the limit of a five million dollar trust fund.

After a dinner fit for a king, the bill came. Handing the waiter his debit card, the card came back declined. It was a shock to the both of them but mostly Bane. It was him who had burned through his multi-million dollar inheritance in less than four years.

After casually walking out on the bill, the two men came up with a plan. The release of Faiden’s trust fund was only a few months away. They only needed to make it until then and they could begin their extravagant lifestyle anew.

Also, they had made a lot of very wealthy friends in their travels. Those friends had winter homes, private planes and nothing to do with their time. They could call up each one, enjoy their hospitality for a while, and then move on. If they never stayed too long, they could easily make it to Faiden’s twenty-fifth birthday while never wearing out their welcome.

That was what the two men did and to their surprise, it worked. After three days at a friend’s beach house, they moved on to another friend’s chateau. Their lifestyle changed very little though Bane did notice a slight change in Faiden.

Faiden seemed to be hiding a sort of discontent that Bane couldn’t put his finger on. Bane chalked it up to the temporary feeling of dependency. Bane decided that would change when his trust fund opened. Bane was sure that the money would solve everything and after, Faiden would return to being the man that Bane loved.

Faiden celebrated his twenty-fifth birthday on a crisp autumn day in New York.  Dressed in casually wrinkled attire, Faiden entered the office building in downtown Manhattan. Faiden asked Bane to wait for him outside warning that his parents might be there. Bane agree.

Seated on a bus bench across the street, Bane noticed how much longer Faiden’s meeting took than his own. Bane felt relieved when he finally came out, but Bane couldn’t help but notice that Faiden exited the building looking different. Faiden’s eyes were steely, his back was straighter and there was a cocky smile across his face.

“Did you get it?” Bane asked nervously.

“I got it. You want to grab lunch? It’s on me,” Faiden said with a smirk.

Feeling like pasta, the two men lunched at Del Posto. The food was exquisite. The pasta was fresh and perfectly al dente and the meat burst in their mouths with an explosion of flavor.

“So, where do we go now?” Bane asked ready for their next adventure to begin.

“We should talk about that,” Faiden said in a tone that sent a chill down Bane’s spine.

“Bane, we’ve had fun, right?”

“Of course. Wouldn’t you agree?”

“Absolutely. But don’t you think this life of ours has run its course?”

The blood rushed from Bane’s face leaving a prickly sensation behind. “What do you mean?”

“I mean, don’t you think that it’s getting a little tiresome?”

“We’re sharks. Isn’t that what you’ve always said?”

“Yes, except we’re not sharks. We’re humans and humans settle down.”

“You want us to establish a home base?”

“Maybe. Or maybe it’s just time that we went our separate ways.”

Every muscle in Bane’s chest clenched. It felt like his heart stopped. Bane was lightheaded but he forced himself to remain upright and focused on what Faiden was saying.

“You want us to break up?”

“Break up? Goodness, you make it sound like we were dating.”

Faiden’s words were a punch to the gut. Bane felt like he wanted to cry. Hadn’t they been in a relationship? Hadn’t they had regular sex? Didn’t Faiden love him like he had loved Faiden? Bane’s heart wrenched in agony.

“You don’t have to worry, I’m not going to leave you high and dry. I have established an account for you with $250,000 in it.”

“$250,000? My trust fund was five million. We burned through every penny I had.”

“And that’s unfortunate, but that was your choice. You could have stopped at any point. Maybe you should have. It was fun, but was it worth it?”

“You said that we were sharks. You said that we have to keep moving.”

“I said a lot of things. But hey, your parents are still rich. Why don’t you go to them for a little more money?”

“They disowned me, remember? They didn’t like the way I was spending my money and you said, “fuck them. You’ll get your inheritance soon and the sky would be the limit.””

“I said that, but perhaps your parents were right.”

There was no way that Bane could have felt more betrayed.

“Look, Bane, just go back to them and proclaim yourself their prodigal son. They’ll understand that. They’ll take you back.”

“To do what?”

“I don’t know. Work for your family’s trust or something. Isn’t that what we’ll all end up doing in the end?”

“But I can’t go back,” Bane decided.

“And why is that?”

“Because unlike you, I’m a shark. I could never stop moving. They were just words to you, but for me, it was the truth.”

Faiden looked at Bane with sympathy. He was aware of what he was doing to Bane. He just didn’t fully care. “Look, the account is set up. Do with it whatever you’d like. And if you choose to keep living like this, then it’s up to you. But I’m done. I suggest that you put an end to it as well.”

Bane stared at Faiden doing his best to hide his agony. He had been betrayed and abandoned in one stroke. What’s more, his heart was broken. He had loved Faiden more than he had ever loved anyone. He thought he was with the person he would spend the rest of his life with. Instead, he would spend the rest of his days feeling empty and alone. It took everything for Bane to remain sitting upright.

“Bane, take this.” Faiden placed a bank card on the table. “Spend it wisely because you won’t get any more.”

Bane took the card slipping it into his pocket. “I can’t believe that you’re doing this to me, Faiden,” he said devastated.

“Seriously Bane, grow up. I did.”

And with that, Faiden threw some cash on the table and walked out of Bane’s life.

Taylor dated a number of women in the years that followed his move to Los Angeles. Each broke up with him. He knew it was his fault.

On the way out, many of them questioned whether or not they had actually been in a relationship. A few of them went crazy on Taylor. Initially chalking it up to bad luck, an ex’s rambling email explained it. It was his emotional distance. It was driving his girlfriends insane.

Reading that, Taylor swore that he was going to be better in his next relationship and he was. When he started dating Juliet, he called and texted her more often. He even asked her how her day was when, in truth, he didn’t care.

It barely helped the loneliness he felt, though. Lying naked with her after sex there was still a chasm that existed between them. His secrets were eroding his relationship with her like it had all of the others.

“What’s wrong, Taylor?” Juliet would ask to no reply.

Soon it became clear that Taylor would have to do something drastic or he would lose her. Losing her would be bad. Their relationship wasn’t perfect but it was all that was keeping him afloat. His life was an enclosed box and Juliet was the pin-sized hole letting in air.

Taylor considered asking her to marry him. Taylor considered getting her pregnant. Nothing he considered seemed right.

It was as their relationship approached its end that Taylor considered telling her about Adam and the feelings he had for men. He would describe all of it as a part of his past. He would need to make that point clear to her. He needed her to know that he would never have feelings for men again.

With his new financial stability, Bane returned to his wandering lifestyle. Traveling back to Europe he had a lot of sex – men, women, couples – Bane didn’t care anymore. All he wanted to do was fill the hole that Faiden had left in his heart.

He spent his money more sparingly this time. In the first year, he had barely spent $20,000. The following year was the same. Bane had mastered the art of living off of the generosity of his rich friends and most of them asked him to come to visit knowing that they would have a better time with him around.

As the years passed, the emptiness that Bane felt at his core, slowly rose to the surface. Soon the parties and the sex weren’t enough. He began to feel like he was drowning. Bane would wake up in the middle of the night in a panic having dreamed that he had been robbed then left to die. He began to understand that he needed more from life than what he was living, but what was it and how would he get it?

“I wanna break up,” Taylor’s girlfriend said to him on a night that started like any other.

“Break up? Why?”

“Because I don’t love you anymore. I mean, I did once, but there’s so little of you to love.”

“What do you even mean by that?” Taylor asked hiding the collapse of his world.

“I mean that I don’t know anything about you.”

“What are you talking about? You know everything about me. You know where I grew up and went to school. You know where I work and the names of the people I work with. I tell you everything.”

“Do you, though? Because there’s got to be more to you than that. Either you’re the most boring person in the world or you’ve completely shut me out of your life. Either way, it’s gotten old and I just don’t love you anymore.”

“Did you ever?”

“Don’t pull that on me,” Juliet demanded.

“What?”

“Don’t turn the conversation around on me. That’s what you do. You always point the conversation back to me. You never answer anything.”

“Don’t women like to talk about themselves?”

“Maybe. But you can’t love someone you don’t know.”

“But…”

“No,” she said stopping him. “I’m done. We’re over.”

The breakup rocked Taylor’s world. He had genuinely tried with this one. He had done almost everything he knew how to do, and the one thing he hadn’t done, he was sure that he would have had Juliet given him a little more time.

After all, he had already begun the process. He was digging in the dirt of his past. All of his shit was now at the surface. Every thought and feeling he had ever experienced were unearthed, and without the soothing touch of someone who cared, he was beginning to feel like he was going mad.

The only thing that quieted the demons was alcohol, not a lot of it, just enough. First he quenched it by drinking home alone. Recognizing the danger in that, he made the decision to only drink when he was out. That meant that he needed to find a bar.

It had to be somewhere he could feel at home at while offering him an escape. The closest one that fit that description was El Carmen’s. El Carmen’s was where he was headed tonight.

Bane’s empty pursuit of fulfillment eventually led him to the land of lost dreams, Los Angeles. Many of his friends were there and considering it was autumn, he would have access to a room at the Chateau Marmont.

Psychologically, Bane could barely keep himself above water. His loneliness sucked him into the darkness like a whirlpool. Bane desperately needed the touch of another human’s heart.

Sadly his friends had no hearts, but maybe they could lead him to someone who did. It was the anniversary of the day Faiden abandoned him and he choked on the pain of it.

“First drinks, then El Carmen’s,” Felix suggested. Samantha, Lance, and Bane agreed.

By the time the group left Felix’s house they were all buzzed. Bane had had a few more than the others. What did he care, he wasn’t driving? Tonight he was just along for the ride. Bane could never have guessed what was waiting for him at that bar. But one thing was sure, after that night, there were two lives that wouldn’t ever be the same again.

Chapter 1

Taylor was experiencing that lost feeling that follows a breakup when he entered the bar. It wasn’t like his ex-girlfriend had a chance of being his soulmate. She was enthusiastic about being with him and beautiful but she lacked that one quality that Taylor’s girlfriends needed, the ability to read Taylor’s mind. Sure, Taylor understood that it was an unfair requirement, but that didn’t change the necessity of the trait.

Reading Taylor’s mind would have allowed his exes to surpass so much of his hesitation when it came to relationships. It would have allowed him to be open with them without having to actually say anything aloud. Any rejection could, therefore, go unspoken. And most important to Taylor, his girlfriend’s seemingly inevitable rejection would hurt Taylor less.

Without that telepathy, Taylor was required to rely on less elegant means, he emotionally kept his girlfriends at arm’s length. Was it unfair to them? Maybe. Actually, of course it was and Taylor knew it. But love is a difficult thing. It is especially difficult when what you love comes with a twist.

El Carmen’s was where Taylor chose to drink away his disappointment tonight. He typically didn’t go to bars by himself, but he didn’t consider any of his friends drinking buddies and tonight he desperately needed to go out.

In spite of being in the heart of Los Angeles, El Carmen’s was designed like a 1900s New York subway stop. Colorful tiles lined the rounded ceiling and the narrow space created an intimate feeling.

“Blood orange margarita,” he yelled to the female bartender with the nose ring.

As the man next to him got up, he slid onto the stool. It was crowded but he didn’t have it in him to be gentlemanly tonight. He needed to wash away his self-loathing from destroying another relationship and he needed a sturdy seat to do it from.

With the first drink down he ordered another. With half of that soon gone he felt the soothing effects kicking in. The world was a little less dangerous and the thoughts that he spent so much time repressing were slowly floating to the surface.

Taylor looked around at the revelers pushing through the tight space. There were a lot of very good looking people. The women were adorned in little dresses that half-heartedly swallowed their breasts and the guys were styled in the combination of chic and nonchalance that drove Taylor wild.

‘Did I just admit that,’ he thought.

No matter how much he drank, he was never able to lower his guard that much. He was practiced at pushing back his thoughts about men. It had to have something to do with his break up with Juliet. She had kept asking him why he didn’t open up to her and he was on the verge of telling her before she suddenly gave up on him and called it quits. She had brought his feelings for men to the surface and now he couldn’t rebury them.

Taylor threw back the last of his second drink while waving the bartender down for a third. His plan was to nurse that one maintaining his preferred level of escape. The night would have remained perfectly reasonable and his life would have continued unchanged if a man didn’t just then enter the bar ruthlessly stealing his attention.

Taylor hadn’t even been looking in his direction. He had turned towards him because of that chill you get on your neck when someone’s staring at you. The man’s eyes were locked on Taylor and the insides of Taylor’s chest tingled when their eyes met.

The man was beautiful. Built like a rock star, he moved like a cat. His hair fell to two inches above his neck and he oozed sex.

Unlike the well-manicured men around him, this man looked a little dirty. His three-day stubble was a little overgrown. The wrinkled white shirt under his jacket was unbuttoned to the bottom of his sternum. And if Taylor wasn’t mistaken, he swayed like he was already buzzed. There was nothing about him that was good. But why then did Taylor have such a hard time looking away?

It was the alcohol, Taylor decided. It was stripping away his inhibitions. The image of the man heading towards him terrified Taylor while at the same time tightening the crouch of his pants. His heart was racing and he could hear his heart pounding in his ears.

‘I’m drunk,’ he thought finally redirecting his gaze.

Taylor stared down as his almost empty third glass racked with emotions. He desperately wanted the man to come over and talk to him, but if he did, what would Taylor do? This wasn’t a gay bar and Taylor wasn’t gay. How does a guy talk to another guy when you find them breathtakingly hot and you’ve always been straight?

Sure, that man made it very clear that he was interested in Taylor. Sure, that man was practically the man of Taylor’s dreams. But Taylor knew that no matter how much he drank, he would never be able to let down his guard enough to do what he had so often fantasized. At least that was what he was thinking.

Taylor’s thoughts were interrupted when someone squeezed beside him at the bar engulfing him with their scent. Taylor didn’t have to look up to know who it was. The sexy musk smelled like the gorgeous man looked.

“Bartender, two gin and tonics,” the man said in a tone that hinted of a smile. “What are you drinking?” he added turning to Taylor.

Taylor looked up from his drink into the gorgeous man’s eyes. The sight made his body quiver and cock tense. Taylor fought to speak.

“Blood orange margarita,” he said as his third drink slowed his speech.

“Give me one of those too,” the man said pointing back at Taylor.

What had just happened, Taylor thought? Had a man just bought him a drink? Had the sexiest man he had ever seen just bought him a drink?

“Which one’s your mask?” the man asked Taylor.

“Excuse me?” Taylor replied confused.

The man pointed to the Mexican wrestler masks lining the walls. “You seem like a man who likes to wrestle so I figured one of them was yours.”

“I seem like I like to wrestle?” he replied taken aback by the innuendo.

“Yeah. Am I wrong?”

Taylor felt the heat pulse from his face. The man who smelt like sex was flirting with him. Never being in this position before, Taylor didn’t know how to flirt back.

“I’ve never wrestled before,” Taylor admitted as his heart thumped.

“You look like you’d be good at it.”

Taylor couldn’t believe what was happening. His cock was hard and he was flirting with a guy. This was uncharted territory. What was he supposed to do next?

The bartender handed Taylor his fourth drink as the man collected his two.

“Bane,” he said.

“What?”

“That’s my name.”

“Oh. Taylor.”

“Well Taylor, you should join me and my friends.”

Taylor hadn’t seen anyone with him when he entered the bar, but then again, he hadn’t been able to take his eyes off of Bane.

“You following me?” he asked withdrawing from the bar.

This was it. Never in his life had he come so close to showing his feelings for another man.

Getting up, he felt his jeans resist his bulging cock. The sensation was fantastic. In that moment he felt freer than he had in all of his thirty-two years.

Clutching his drink he fell into Bane’s wake and the two crossed the room. When they stopped they were in front of a standing table. Bane took an open spot on the other side of a busty brunette. Bane handing her the drink, Taylor realized that they were together. Taylor’s heart immediately broke.

“This is Taylor,” Bane said to the two guys across the table. Pointing at each, “Lance, Felix and this is Sam,” he concluded touching the woman on the back.

Sam turned to Taylor offering him her hand. “Nice to meet you, Taylor.”

“Nice to meet you too.”

Sam was still staring at Taylor when Bane leaned across the table. “She likes you,” Bane teased. “Right now she’s picturing you naked.”

Sam turned to Bane and blushed as she swatted his arm. “Stop it!”

“She’s beautiful, right?” Bane asked Taylor.

Sam turned putting Taylor on the spot. “Yeah,” Taylor said unconvincingly.

It wasn’t that Taylor didn’t find Sam attractive. She was undeniably a beautiful woman. He had just thought that the night was going in a different direction.

“I thought you two would like each other,” Bane said taking a gulp of his drink. “Baby, Taylor’s a wrestler.”

Sam spun around facing Taylor. “Really? That’s so hot! Where do you wrestle?”

“Mostly professionally,” Taylor said quickly readjusting to what was going on.

“You’re a professional wrestler?” Sam squeaked.

Taylor looked over at Bane who almost spit out his drink in delight. “Yeah, I specialize in high-flying. You know, jumping off stuff. Aerial tricks.”

“Seriously? That’s so hot!” Sam gushed.

Bane kissed Sam on the cheek before stepping around her. “Baby, I’m going to the bathroom. You two talk.”

Taylor saw Bane’s kiss and was again confused. It really looked like the two of them were together. Taylor had begun to believe that Bane was setting him up with Sam, but that wasn’t what was happening at all.

“So you’re a professional wrestler? Are you on TV?” Sam continued.

Taylor looked at Sam disappointed wondering whether or not he should leave. He was more than a little buzzed and on the verge of doing something he knew he would regret.

“I’m not really a wrestler,” Taylor admitted.

“Oh,” she said disappointedly. “That’s too bad. I like wrestlers.”

As the silence grew Taylor made a move to leave.

“Bane’s hot, right?” Sam said drawing him back in.

Taylor’s eyes immediately whipped up towards Sam and then the other two guys at the table. Lance and Felix were engaged with the group of girls behind them. Relaxing as he realized no one was listening, he turned back to Sam.

“Don’t you think he’s hot?” Sam asked him again.

“Yeah, he’s hot,” Taylor said feeling his cock becoming hard again. He took a sip of his drink when he realized it.

Sam pushed her body onto Taylor’s. “Do you think I’m hot?”

“You’re definitely hot,” Taylor conceded.

“Then why don’t you kiss me?”

Sam lifted her chin presenting her lips. Taylor didn’t know what was going on, and his mind wasn’t clear enough to figure it out. So instead of thinking about it, he just leaned down and kissed her.

Her lips pressed against his and it felt good. He became intensely aroused. Kissing Juliet had never been like this. He opened his mouth allowing their tongues to twirl with one another’s. Sinking deeper into the sea of sensations, Taylor was about lost.

“Hey babe, let’s go,” Bane said jolting Taylor out of his trance.

Taylor opened his eyes and quickly pulled away. He looked at Bane wondering how much he had seen. Bane’s eyes refused to look at him.

“I wanna finish my drink,” Sam protested.

“Knock it back and let’s go.”

Taylor retreated thinking Bane was angry. Stepping aside he watched Sam finish her gin and tonic then be pulled away by Bane. Sam was just about past Taylor when she said, “Finish your drink, we’re going.”

Startled, Taylor wasn’t sure what was going on.

“Come on, finish it. Let’s go,” Sam insisted.

Feeling Sam grab his hand, Taylor mindlessly lifted the glass and gulped the remainder of his drink. Dragged towards the door Taylor asked where they were going.

“Does it matter?” Sam replied playfully.

“I haven’t paid my tab,” Taylor remembered through the mounting haze.

“Does it matter?” Sam said with a giggle.

Taylor’s heart raced thinking about what they were about to do. He had never run out on a bill before. This was crazy. What was he doing? Taylor thought about slipping from her grasp but when the thought reached his hand they were already outside.

Taylor looked back at the bouncer. He was big and as soon as he found out what they had done, he would be after them.

“Come on,” Sam insisted as she ushered Taylor towards a red sports car parked in front.

Taylor walked over dazed and when he was close enough, Bane popped open the driver side door and dove in.

‘Holy shit, he’s stealing a Ferrari,’ Taylor thought.

“Get in! Hurry!” Sam insisted.

Taylor didn’t know what to do so he obeyed. Bane opened the door from the inside and Sam pushed him in. Sitting on his lap, she closed the door behind them and Bane skid off.

Bane looked in the rearview mirror. “He just saw us. He’s freaking the fuck out.”

Taylor looked back to see the valet chasing the car down Third Street. Bane and Sam were laughing while his heart was pounding out of his chest.

“Did you just steal this car?” Taylor yelled.

“Does it matter?” Sam asked with a drunken chuckle.

“Yes, it matters! This is a fucking hundred thousand dollar car. It’s like grand larceny or something. We could go to jail for a long time.”

“Yeah, but don’t you feel hot?” Sam asked taking the back of his head in her palm.

Taylor’s mind spun looking into her eyes. He was terrified but he also felt alive. His heart thundered feeling her body heat engulf him. All he could do in response was grab the side of her face, pull her to him and kiss her hard.

The two scratched at each other like ravenous animals. Maneuvering the tiny space Sam straddled him desperately trying to feel his hardened cock. Taylor thrust up but couldn’t reach. Instead, he scooped her breast from her dress and kissed her harder.

Taylor was feeling ready to explode when the car’s high-pitched roar muzzled to a stop. Taylor wanted to keep on going, but Sam pulled away, pushed open the door and crawled out. Straightening her dress she waited for Bane to circle around and take her hand.

Once Taylor was out, he again wondered if he was supposed to follow. This time it didn’t take him long to figure it out. Shifting his massive erection so that it only displayed its long imprint, he stumbled forward.

Barely able to focus on anything but what was directly in front of him, Taylor decided that they were in a hotel lobby. Maybe it was the SLS or Beverly Hills Hotel. Where ever it was, it was nice. Maybe the Ferrari wasn’t stolen after all, he considered.

Still keenly focused on Bane and Sam, Taylor followed them into an elevator. There was an elderly couple already there. With Bane and Sam in front of the doors and Taylor behind the elderly couple in the back, Taylor watched as Bane slipped his hand under Sam’s short skirt. Caressing her round naked ass, the older couple huffed in disapproval.

Suddenly struck the wrong way by their haughty attitude, Taylor wondered who they thought they were. Who were they to say anything about what Bane was doing?

Filled with drunken confidence Taylor pushed forward and grab Sam’s other ass cheek and then leaned in for a kiss. It was as their lips touched that the bell rung and Bane dragged them out. As the elevator closed behind them, Taylor looked back at the haughty couple and laughed. He still wasn’t sure what was going on, but whatever it was, he was having a blast.

Standing in front of a room door Sam grabbed the side of Taylor’s neck and pulled his ear to his lips. She nibbled on his lobe and then whispered, “undress.” Taylor pulled away and looked into her eyes.

“Out here?” Taylor questioned.

“Uh huh,” Sam confirmed.

“Why out here?” Taylor challenged.

“Does it matter?” Sam asked with a devilish grin.

Taylor thought for a moment. Did it matter? For the very first time in his life, he felt free. He didn’t feel like he had to hide anything. So what if some stranger saw him naked in a hallway. What did he have to hide?

Taylor pulled off his shirt and dropped his pants. With his cock throbbing excitedly to get out, he saw that Bane was watching. He wanted desperately to drop his boxer briefs and climb on top of him but as drunk as he was he still restrained himself. Instead, he pulled his shorts down past his hips and slid them to the floor.

Taylor was now naked. At any moment someone could walk off of the elevator or leave their room. He was exposed to the world and he liked it. Bane liked it too. Slowly touching his key card onto the door, Bane led the way into the luxury suite.

“Leave your clothes outside,” he ordered with Taylor too happy to oblige.

Wide paneled hardwood floors, gold lamps, expensive looking art, this was no ordinary room. Who was Bane? What had Taylor gotten himself into?

Taylor stopped and looked at a painting when something about it caught his eye.

“It’s a Monet,” Bane explained.

“Shit!” Taylor claimed understanding what he was seeing. His eyes followed to a second and a third.

“That’s a Picasso, and a Basquiat,” Bane continued. “And I would hang you right there,” he said pointing to blank space on the wall. Taylor looked at him quizzically. “You, you’re a fuckin’ work of art, man.”

“Will you undress me?” Sam asked seductively from within bedroom.
