USEFUL GUIDE ON HOW TO EFFECTIVELY MEMORIZE THE HOLY QURAN

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

In the name of Allah, the most beneficent, the most merciful.

All Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and on his family and companions. Ameen.

Dear brother/sister in Islam, I congratulate you on your decision to commence memorization of the glorious Quran, the book of Allah. There is no doubt that it is true guidance which Allah sent to us the last Ummah, the Ummah of Prophet Muhammad (صلالله عليه وآله وسلم). As He said in the following verses:

ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْكِتَٰبُ لَا رَيْبَ ۛ فِيهِ ۛ هُدًى لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ

This is the Book (the Quran), whereof there is no doubt, a guidance to those who are Al-Muttaqun [the pious and righteous persons who fear Allah much]. (Al-Baqara 2:2)

And....

قُلْنَا ٱهْبِطُوا۟ مِنْهَا جَمِيعًا ۖ فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُم مِّنِّى هُدًى فَمَن تَبِعَ هُدَاىَ فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

We said: "Get down all of you from this place (the Paradise), then whenever there comes to you Guidance from Me, and whoever follows My Guidance, there shall be no fear on them, nor shall they grieve. (Al-Baqara 2:38)

And....

تِلْكَ ءَايَٰتُ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ

These are Verses of the Wise Book (the Quran). (Luqman 31:2)

هُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لِّلْمُحْسِنِينَ

A guide and a mercy for the Muhsinun (good-doers). (Luqman 31:3)

Therefore to truly achieve Allah's Mercy and be on His right guidance, we must follow the Qur'an and the teachings of our Rasool (صلالله عليه وآله وسلم) through his Sunnah. If what we ultimately desire and strive for as muslims is success, then we should follow the Qur'an and Sunnah in order to attain success in this world and in the hereafter.

Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal said, a muslim interacts with the Qur'an in 5 ways and these are; i) memorizing it by heart, ii) reciting it on the tongue, iii) viewing it with the eye, iv) listening to it with the ear and v) writing it by hand.
