As in Volume I, the nursing wolf Tiffy is abducted during an outing, reportedly in a rocket according to eyewitnesses. Wolf, the guardian of the wolves and his two companions were told by the Elves that female wolves are disappearing everywhere. The questions of who and why remain unanswered at first. Is President Strampler and his vassal Firlefance from the Fake-Land, who have rockets, behind it? The companions learn more in Hyperborea, the legendary land in the far north. A wealthy industrial magnate, Aegon Muscle, holds the abducted individuals captive on his Mars station. What is his purpose? With the support of a master from the Hyperboreans, an eight-member mixed animal-human-elf team sets out for Mars to investigate and rescue the female wolves. A fantasy Story for young and old on 48 pages with 31 coloured pictures. Any similarities to real events and living persons are purely coincidental.

My special thanks go to my wife, Dr. Dorit Lederer, and my son-in-law, Frédéric Skanda, for their active support in creating this fantasy novel for young people and the young at heart. It was inspired by my granddaughter, Lana, who loves hearing wolf stories. A bear and an excavator were included in the story at Elodie's suggestion.
For our grandchildren: Lana, Leon, Rosalie, Elodie, and Henry.
In Memoriam Genki Hime
And a long-lasting peace settled over the land of Gangolia, so it was said at the end of our first story. Indeed, the inhabitants of this remarkable land, and especially of the small town of Gnagflowia, lived in perfect harmony with themselves and with nature. They had found the meaning of life in life itself, which for them meant that work and pleasure were in a healthy balance with each other, that the satisfaction of all was paramount, and that no morbid ambition for power and wealth disturbed the general cohesion. This is not to say that it was paradise, the Garden of Eden; of course, there were occasional frictions and quarrels, and courts were called upon to settle disputes, but everything still proceeded in an orderly and civilized manner.
And yet, even the most pious cannot live in peace if it displeases their wicked neighbour. And this evil cast its invisible shadow ahead, invisible because the inhabitants suspected nothing of any danger whatsoever, let alone noticed it, for it began to grow in the background, indeed, truly underground.
Wolf, the Gang, our brave guardian of the wolves, had long pursued his studies and work at leisure, but in recent days an undefined restlessness had gripped his mind. Not that anything had disturbed his normal daily routine, it was simply this intangible feeling that something unusual might happen – a feeling which perhaps each of us has experienced at some point in our lives – or as the saying goes: "something is in the air."
He was returning from shopping in the centre of Gnagflowia and was quite surprised to see three wolves sitting in front of his door: old Greybeard, Ironfang, who had lost his tail since the dragon fight, and Steelclaw.
They greeted each other joyfully, ritually putting their heads together, and he vigorously scratched the fur on each of their necks.
Reunion of friends.
"What brings you to me?" Wolf began the conversation. "We haven't seen each other in a long time. I hope your entire pack is doing well." Greybeard ran his tongue along his teeth, tilted his head slightly, looked deeply into the guardian's eyes, and replied, "Unfortunately, trouble has struck us again. You'll surely remember the kidnapping of Tiffy, whom we thankfully managed to free from the clutches of Fang, the she- dragon, thanks to your help. Now imagine this! She has disappeared again, and all indications point to her being kidnapped once more, this time even along with two female pups from her last litter." The guardian looked from wolf to wolf, startled.
"How do you figure it's another kidnapping? Maybe she just got lost in the forest."
"No, she knows her way around the land of Gangolia too well for that. After the usual duration of an outing had passed, we spread out to search for her and discovered the male pups by the great lake behind the Dark- wood, where they had hidden in a cave.
Their questioning about the whereabouts of their mother and sisters initially confused us more than it enlightened us. Allegedly, the three had stumbled into a net trap and been pulled up a tree, warning the others to quickly hide as they were being hoisted. Afterward, strangely wobbly metal figures appeared and took the wolves, bundled together, to a large, slender house with small wings, which, after the door was closed, vanished into the sky on a pillar of fire."
Tiffy is abducted by a robot.
Greybeard paused for a moment, during which Ironfang and Steelclaw nodded in agreement, and added:
"At first, we sought out the she-dragon Fang, who swore solemnly that this time she had nothing to do with Tiffy's disappearance and had never seen such a complicated vehicle. Afterward, together with her, we inspected the spot by the lake, finding a circular patch of burned grass, but no other traces. So, the Great Wolf Council decided to inform you, for we are at our wit's end and cannot explain what has happened."
The guardian, who possessed profound scientific knowledge, sank into thought and murmured to himself:
"A slender house with wings, propelled by a jet of fire? That could have been a rocket. But there are no rockets in all of Gangolia and the neigh-bouring lands; I'm sure of that. And I also don't believe that anyone could secretly build such a machine. To my knowledge, in countries on the other side of our planet, there are people who travel with such rockets and have even visited the Moon, our Earth's satellite. So, the only possibility remaining is that strangers from there have entered our land. But what do they want with a she-wolf and her pups? None of this makes any sense."
Turning to the wolves, he said: "I must confess that perplexity is written all over my face. No one in Gangolia is likely to be able to shed light on this; we need experts with more knowledge and a broader perspective.
The only ones I can think of who might help are the Elves in the city of Llandrindowyn – we probably have no other choice but to make our way there, as we did once before."
Greybeard looked at his companions and nodded: "All right. We have unanimous support and authority from our pack to do everything that can save Tiffy and the pups. Guardian, you have a free hand. Now rest, and tomorrow morning, set off for Llandrindowyn with Ironfang and Steelclaw; you know best how to get there quickest."
