– Amanda, tu peux aller promener le chien ? demanda la maman d’Amanda.
“Amanda, can you go walk the dog?” Amanda’s mom asked.
– Pas maintenant. J’irai plus tard, répondit Amanda.
“Not now. I’ll do it later,” Amanda replied.
– Quand m’aideras-tu à faire la carte d’anniversaire de papa ? demanda sa petite sœur en déboulant dans la chambre d’Amanda. J’ai attendu toute la journée.
“When will you help me make Dad’s birthday card?” asked her little sister, running into Amanda’s room. “I’ve been waiting all day."
– Son anniversaire n’est pas avant une semaine ! soupira Amanda sans même tourner la tête. On peut la faire demain.
“His birthday isn’t for another week!” Amanda replied, sighing, not even turning her head. “We can do it tomorrow.”
Plus tard, son petit frère vint aussi la voir.
– Amanda, tu peux me lire un livre ? demanda-t-il. J’adore quand tu me fais la lecture. Surtout l’histoire des pirates.
Later, her little brother came in too. “Amanda, can you read me a book?” he asked. “I love it when you read for me. Especially this story about pirates.”
– Je n’ai pas envie maintenant. Peut-être un autre jour, dit Amanda.
“I don’t feel like it right now. Maybe another day,” Amanda said.
Les heures se transformèrent en jours et Amanda n’avait toujours rien fait de tout cela. Quand l’anniversaire de son père arriva et qu’elle n’avait pas fait de carte, elle se dit : c’est pas grave, je ferai une carte l’année prochaine.
Hours turned into days, and Amanda still didn’t do any of these things. When her dad’s birthday came and she still hadn’t made a card, she thought, No big deal, I’ll just make a card next year.
