eople were crowding around the bar. Benjamin was mixing cocktails; Bobby was tapping beers. It was a mad rush! Marcello put the load down and took me by the hand. "Come." We left the counter area and were back in the crowd. He held his arms protectively around me and pushed me in front of him. We reached Gregory, who nodded to him and slid him a beer. "Thanks, bro." Marcello pulled me into his arms, took it and drank. I found my cocktail again and slowly sucked on the straw. He set the mug down and burped, Gregory laughed. "Sorry, babe," Marcello grinned cheekily, wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and gave me a kiss.

Amused, I shook my head. More and more people gathered around us. "This place is packed!" I exclaimed, barely able to stand it in the crush.

"They all want to get a quick drink before we start!"

"Starting what?"

"The BEACH MEGA GAMES CHAMPIONSHIPS!" roared Gregory, his cheeks flushed and already looking slightly drunk.

I glanced at Benjamin, who was cashing in, which reminded me of something. "Gregory, what do you get?" He turned to me questioningly and I pointed to my cocktail. "For that?"

He and Marcello looked at each other and laughed. "What's always with you and your paying, forget it!" Marcello was amused.

"I knew that would come from you," I sighed. "But just because you don't pay anything here doesn't mean that Gregory also doesn't, right?" I peered at Gregory uncertainly, he shrugged his shoulders.

"I don't."

"Why's that?" I wondered.

"Sweetie, let me explain. Benjamin, Gregory and I are best friends, always have been. And we work together and don't pay him anything. That's how it is with best friends!"

"I know, but I don't feel comfortable with it! He shouldn't have to cover it for me too."

"Kathaleena," Gregory bellowed drunkenly. "You're our ladies! Of course, you're invited!"

"Thank you, Gregor," Paula giggled ecstatically, he embraced her and they made out.

"It doesn't matter what he says! She just thinks everything about him is great!" Annoyed, I shook my head.

"That's how it is when you're in love," grinned Marcello. "I think you're great too!" He now stood with his back to the bar and wrapped both arms around me. I felt his warm body close to mine, gazed into his bright, sparkling eyes and felt dizzy. Whether from him or the alcohol or both, was hard to say.

"C'mon, let's make out too," he whispered in my ear, his hot breath tickling me; I giggled.

"No, not in public."

"We're not." He kissed up my cheekbone.

"Of course, we are," I sighed with pleasure.

"No, I just told you, Benjamin is our best friend." He was now caressing my other side.

"Yes, but what does that have to do with this?"

"Shh ... let me finish. And this is his beach bar." He tenderly kissed my forehead and slowly down my nose. "So, like his home. That's why we're not in public." Now his lips touched mine.

"That's not a logical conclusion," I chuckled softly, my pulse was racing! I wanted him to kiss me!

"Yeah, it is. Makes total sense." He kissed me gently on the mouth.

"Alright," I gave in, threw my arms around his neck and we made out. And yes! I liked it so much that my knees went weak and I was very glad that he was holding me safely in his arms. I snuggled up to him, nestled my head on his shoulder, he stroked my hair. Then he put one arm around Gregory's waist and pulled him close! Taken by surprise, I drew back a little.

Gregory wrapped his arm around him too, holding Paula in the other. "TIGER, you're my bessssst f...friend! My veeeery BEST!" he roared. Now I understood why Marcello was holding him, Gregory was so drunk that he was already swaying around!

Marcello laughed amusedly. "You too, bro! Just stop now, or you won't make it through the Games."

"Oh yeah." Gregory smiled at him. "Let's play together in a team, Tiger! And win!"

Marcello smiled back. "We'll do that."

"WE ARE THE BEST! THE VERY BEST OF ALL!" sang Gregory.

"He's so wasted," I giggled. "Do you think he can even play?"

"Of course, I can! I can do it in my ssssleep! Oh, I feel sssssick," he moaned.

Marcello let go of me and embraced him tightly. "I'll get you out of here! Kathleen, let's meet up later! I have to take care of him." With that, he dragged him out of the crowd.

"Oh!" I gazed after them, baffled. He'd just walked off like that and left me behind? But Gregory really didn't seem to be feeling well at the moment.

"Poor Gregor," Paula sighed sympathetically.

"It's his own fault! Why does he drink so much!"

"You're so hostile towards him! Really mean!"

"And you're the complete opposite, also bad!"

"Oh yeah?" She glared at me challengingly. "I have every reason to be! Gregor is just great and you wouldn't believe how good a kisser he is!" she enthused.

"You never miss an opportunity."

"And that's coming from you! You're kissing your tiger all the time too."

"First of all, not all the time and then that's something completely different! We have real feelings for each other, whereas you've only just met. Anyway, you don't pay any attention to me when he's around, you stick to him like glue! You wouldn't believe how embarrassing you are when you're with him, if you could see yourself! You truly wouldn't believe it!"

"Oh yeah, like you?"

"I am quite different."

"Yeah, sure! Just think that."

I glanced around, but there was no sign of them. "Let's get out of here and go somewhere quieter!" I grabbed her by the hand and pulled her behind me through the crowd. It was so packed that we only made slow progress, then finally we broke free. "How good!" I let go of her and looked at her determinedly. "Yes, okay, I'm in love! Are you?"

She giggled. "Maybe."

"Anyway, let's not fight! Not over stuff like this, not over guys!"

She shrugged. "I'm not up for a fight, are you?"

"No, me neither." I'd argued with Marcello several times and also with Claudia, Paula and Gregory. "I don't know. I really don’t want to fight," I murmured, feeling embarrassed.

"Great! Then we've sorted that out!" she replied cheerfully. "I hope Gregor feels better soon." Worried, she sighed; it was pointless! She was only thinking about him, and I sighed, depressed.

"Shouldn't there be a restroom somewhere here?"

"That's right! Gregor said so!"

"But where?" I glanced around; we were standing to the right of the beach bar, and there were no other buildings apart from it. "But there was nothing like that inside or did you see anything?" I wondered.

"No." She shrugged her shoulders helplessly.

"Hello Kathleen!" it called out merrily, and I spun around.

"Claudia! So great you're here!"

"See, you can't get lost around here! Hey Paula!"

"Hi!" beamed Paula.

"Right, you've already met?"

"Gregor introduced us!" she said proudly.

"Of course, how could I've forgotten," I sighed annoyed. "We're trying to find the restrooms; do you know where they are?"

"Sure, and that's exactly where I'm heading too. It's just around the corner!"

"Around the corner? But there's nothing else here, is there?" Apart from the many parked cars, we were surrounded by dense forest. "Oh no! Please don't tell me we have to go into the woods?" We walked to the back of the beach bar.

Claudia giggled. "No, not that. But let's see if you like it, here it is!" She pointed to a man-sized wooden box.

"We have to go in there?" I was horrified.

"C'mon!" she amused herself.

"No, you first!" It gave me the creeps!

"Kathleen, don't be like that! It won't be that bad!" Paula replied, annoyed.

"Well then, you go!"

"Sure, I'll go!" She opened the door. "Eww ... that stinks!" she exclaimed in disgust and stepped inside; Claudia and I laughed.

"That's how it is with an outhouse," she chuckled. "In the forest, without civilization, infrastructure, electricity and running water."

"Marcello would love that! For him, any comfort is a luxury," I sighed.

She grinned. "I wouldn't have imagined it any other way with a tiger. Where is he?"

"With Gregory."

"Ah yes, the two of them are inseparable. Always have been," she nodded.

"I'm sorry about our argument earlier, by the way. That was stupid," I murmured sheepishly.

"Long forgotten," she smiled; relieved, I smiled back.

"Gregory told me how they met at school and only had nonsense on their minds."

She smirked. "And still do!"

"Please don't!" I was shocked. "I thought Marcello was relatively sensible and mature! Apart of course from the fact that he's a tiger."

"He is, but together with Gregory—forget it! Although Gregory always has the craziest ideas and Marcello joins in, of course. They stick with one another and do everything together and are completely loyal to each other. You'd never hear a bad word from one of them about the other."

"Yes, that's true. But what kind of crazy ideas are you talking about? I hope they're not still climbing onto the school roof and having to be chased away by the janitor?" I giggled.

She laughed. "No, not that."

The door opened and Paula came out. "At last! I thought you were moving in or had accidentally locked yourself up! I was just about to call Gregory to save you," I teased her.

"And he would have done that right away! Your turn!"

"I don't think I need to anymore," I muttered, deterred.

"At some point, you'll have to!" Claudia amused herself and disappeared behind the door. Paula walked to a tap and washed her hands.

Surprised, I stepped behind her. "Oh? Didn't Claudia say there was no running water here?" There was even a bar of soap on a wooden board and now I noticed the huge plastic water tank with the tap sticking out of it. A large bucket stood underneath the tap, catching the waste water. "A water basin," I mumbled, impressed.

"Is it okay if I check on Gregor? I'm really worried about him!" She closed the faucet and shook her hands to dry them. She seemed to take everything for granted and probably wouldn't even be surprised to find a washing facility on the glacier.

"Sure thing," I sighed. "See ya later."

"Great, see you soon!" She skipped off happily, I'd never seen her so winded up before! What was going on? In the meantime, a small queue had formed behind me. All women, I noticed. The door opened, Claudia stepped out and it was my turn.

"So, was it that bad?" she asked me when I was done.

"I survived it, but I'm not keen on a repeat."

She laughed. "Where's Paula?"
