People read less

Apparently the Germans slowly loose the pleasure of reading! Even though people find reading important, but they don`t do it. Only 11% read every day, about 35% regularly. Striking here is the large proportion of foreigners (German-speaking citizens of foreign origin). Only 3% read about 50 books a year. The proportion of opportunity reading dropped from about 30% to 25%. The number of books per household decreased. Around one quarter of young people have reading problems. So, do we forget how to read?

Anatomy of a reader

A reader has eyes to see the runway in the words and pictures.

A reader has a curious mind to think about the ideas in the books.

A reader has a mouth with which he can read with the expressiveness of a narrator and read out loud.

A reader has ears to hear what the others think.

A reader has a nose, with which he can sniff the partially centuries-old fragrance of the book pages.

A reader has hair that may stand on end about all the information and news from the books that he chooses.

A reader has hands to handle the books carefully.

A reader has fingers that sometimes read with the lines and accompany the individual words directly on the paper.

A reader has feet that carry him everywhere there where he wants to sit down and enjoy his books.

A reader has legs, which he conveniently crossed, to make himself really comfortable for reading and to give the books a prop.

A reader has a heart to unite all the read stories and words.

A reader has imagination to continue the stories and ideas that spring up from the books.

A reader thinks that every book has a soul.

A reader has books, books, lots and lots and lots of books...

Reading books - a lifelong adventure

Meanwhile, it is proofed: Who reads a lot, learns better, writes better, has a richer vocabulary, more critical sense and more imagination. The habit of reading helps to keep school performance at a high level. Reading can be a source of great joy in all stages of life. The contact with books already in babyhood makes a big difference for later adult life and encourages children's early. Babies can start with soft fabric books. Take the child on your lap, open the pages with colorful designs full of laughter, read out, change your voice and experience the magic moments with a lot of warmth and proximity between parent and child that will strengthen the bonds. Experts consider 20 minutes a day sufficient, and at the same time the most important.

The adventures begin in the cradle, the researchers said. The baby should explore the book like a toy, with the eyes, the hands, the teeth. Animal figures and color images, later, the ABC with short texts. The children become more and more interested; Reading is a ritual that should be maintained in any case, when the child can then read and write.

What books should be read? Nobody chooses a title better than the child itself. Adults can propose and assist in choosing. There are junior tales, stories of everyday life, fantasy, rhymes, poems, animal stories, ghost stories and and and.

Throughout life, the taste may change or remain. Go with your child into bookstores and libraries, take a look at many works and decide what the child wants to read. Put a bookcase into the children`s room and fill it gradually, read recent works as eBooks. Not matter whether Harry Potter, Sophie's World, or illustrated books...

Kindle eBook reader

Some 25 million people have already purchased the Kindle e-reader. The new version is richer in contrast, small-sized, lightweight and much faster; the difference is quite noticeable. Many customers use the Kindle to complement the Apple iPad or the Galaxy Pad from Samsung. The lighting for reading, however, is better at Kindle, say the customers. Reduced eye strain, since the contrast is less glaring. The brightness at iPad and Tab is the customers` most disputed point; here the Klindle clearly won in researches.

Primarily, the Kindle is a portable e-book reader computer. Books and documents can be read on its screen. With its portable 240 grams, it has about the same weight as a magazine. Approximately 20 x 12 cm makes it handy as a small computer, and thus interesting for train, bus or plane. The anti-glare screen is 15 cm and is easily readable for 8 font sizes, different from a computer. PDF reader included. It reads loud for you (read for me function), if you want; However, some publishers block this function consciously as they want to sell their audio books. Sit back on the sofa with your eBook reader, like with a normal book. I already got accustomed, even though I was initially very skeptical; now I like it like a book. Daily growing is list of books that can be easily downloaded. You can even opt for magazines subscriptions at low cost.

For normal home use, i.e. reading, the wireless version is sufficient. Such a device will only cost around 100 euros. For an additional charge larger versions are also possible, such as a 9.7-inch display version. When Kindle 1 came on the market in 2007, it was sold out in a few hours. Its capacity was 100 titles. In the next version, Kindle 2, there were already 1,500 books with a display of 15 cm, compared to the current 24 cm in the newer Kindle DX. More memory can be reached with an additional purchasable memory card. Neoprene sleeves are available, also reading lights, e.g. from Sony. A Kindle 2 will cost between 50 and 250 euros.

The new 3rd generation of Kindle weighs about 15% less and is less than 1 cm thick. Wireless technology with 3G and WiFi can download your books wherever you want; without additional charges. Downloads are done very quickly, usually in less than 1 minute. The new capacity is more than 3,500 books, the battery provides up to a month without recharging. The higher contrast with darker characters makes reading even more enjoyable now. The price of this top version: Between 180 and 480 Euros. Conclusion: cheaper than books, ready for use anywhere and also easy on the eyes.

And now: to the books: The MUST READ list.
