Chapter One

What Is a Cricut Machine and What Does it Do?

The Cricut machine is an automated cutting machine that can be used to create patterns, shapes, and designs from cutting materials such as; card stock, vinyl, paper, and iron-on transfers. It is an efficient craft tool that can be used to make various craft-works such as custom stickers, greeting cards, t-shirts and much more. Some Cricut machines can even cut wood and leather. Typically, the Cricut machine will cut any material that can be cut with an X-acto knife or a scissors, but with much better speed and precision than any that can be achieved by cutting with your hand.

Cutting machines such as the Cricut are at times called craft plotters or die-cutter machines. The Brother ScanNCut and Silhouette Cameo are other brands of cutting machines available.

How to Use a Cricut Machine?

The Cricut machine works like a home-use printer, except that the Cricut machine does not print the design on paper like the printer, but cuts out the designs being printed on any material used (e.g., paper, vinyl, card stock, wood, leather etc.), using a portable transferable blade to make the designs.

Firstly, start by creating your desired design in the Cricut's design app or software, before sending the finished design via USB or Bluetooth to the Cricut machine. The circut machine collects the finished design and cuts out the design on your cutting material.

These easy steps will get you started on the use of a Cricut machine:

1) Pick your cutting material
2) Transfer cutting material to the sticky cutting mat and place on top. Note: The sticky cutting mat is used to hold the cutting material in place while cutting.
3) Move mat into the Cricut machine.
4) In Cricut Design Space, select your design and pick your material settings.
5) Send design to the Cricut machine via USB or Bluetooth.
6) Push the switch on the Cricut machine to begin cutting.
7) Subsequently, take out the mat from the Cricut machine when you finish cutting and remove material from the cutting mat.
