Could Daenerys Targaryen Return to Game of Thrones?
It is highly possible that Daenerys was flown straight to Volantis and resurrected by the red priests and priestesses who were likely present and foresaw the event through their flames. Disbelievers of this theory are, in my opinion, misguided. In this chapter, I will further expound on my reasoning for believing in Daenerys' resurrection, and explain why we may see her back on our screens sooner than later.
Firstly, it's important to acknowledge that the world today is not the same as it was in 2019 when Game of Thrones concluded. The creators of the show, Dan and Dave, had already decided to move on with their careers, as they had a Star Wars project in the works. However, due to the impact of Covid-19 on the entertainment industry, WB - who owns the Game of Thrones franchise - has limited cash cows in their bank.
While I am a huge DC comics and cartoon fan, I must admit that their movies are not always great. Yet, WB still has an ace up their sleeve - the highly successful HBO network, which owns the rights to Game of Thrones. While they have continued with the hype by creating House of the Dragon, it's important to note that Game of Thrones was their original cash cow, and despite its ending, there are still multiple main characters who could carry their own spin-off series. It's evident that WB executives maintain an ongoing relationship with George R.R. Martin, who presumably wants to continue expanding his world.
One way of doing so is through making another adaptation directly from the Game of Thrones storyline. The reason I say this is because WB doesn't have a clear-cut cash cow at the moment. Although they are taking a chance with House of Dragon, as it is a spin-off series with new characters set in Westeros, they're banking on the fact that there will be dragons and nudity, which was an integral part of Game of Thrones' success. Moreover, almost every character from the original series could potentially carry their own main series.
Therefore, in my opinion, this is why Daenerys may receive a spin-off series or a series of movies. Emilia Clarke herself has expressed interest in trying new projects, particularly with Marvel, but something that is not as heavy as Game of Thrones. It's not necessary for them to produce another 15 seasons of Game of Thrones, but there are plenty of ways to expand the Song of Ice and Fire universe. For instance, they could create a two-hour movie every few years or a short series with six episodes. If these are successful, they could produce more episodes.
This would be a great way to add to the HBO version of the universe without taking away from George R. Martin's books. After all, Martin hasn't even published Winds of Winter yet, and we're still waiting for Dream of Spring after that. This means Martin has plenty of time to finish his story the way he wants to. Meanwhile, fans who enjoy watching the story on screen, like myself, can delve deeper into the universe and escape further into Westeros.
It's important to note that any spin-off series would simply expand on Martin's universe, not the TV universe. Although the novels inspired the television show, they are two separate entities. The TV series focuses on a few POV characters and makes the story easier to follow on screen. However, it's crucial to keep the core material intact, as this is what failed in the later seasons of Game of Thrones.
