This is our first task. We need to perform a careful inventory. The "Fly More Combo" is a fantastic value package precisely because it includes all the essential extras that new pilots quickly realize they need.

Find a clear, uncluttered surface—a dining room table or a clean desk is perfect. Carefully slide off the outer sleeve of the box and open the main lid. You’ll likely be greeted by the stylish and surprisingly compact shoulder bag. Most of your components will be neatly organized inside. Take everything out, remove the plastic wrapping, and let's line it all up.

PRO TIP: Don't throw away any of the packaging just yet. We highly recommend keeping the main box and all the original inserts for at least the first 30 days, just in case you discover a warranty issue.

DJI RC (Remote Controller) (x1):

This is your command center. Unlike cheaper drones that force you to use your smartphone, your combo includes this brilliant all-in-one controller with its own built-in, ultra-bright screen. You’ll find the two control sticks are unscrewed and stored in clever rubber slots on the back. You can retrieve them and screw them into the gimbals on the front (finger-tight is perfect).

Intelligent Flight Battery (x3):

These are the heart of your operation. One will likely come pre-installed in the drone (for shipping), and the other two will be in the box. Notice the contacts on one end and the power button/LED status lights on the other. Two-Way Charging Hub (x1):

Charging the Intelligent Flight Batteries: Hub Operation and Battery Care

If the drone is the star of the show and the batteries are its heart, then battery management is the most important skill you will learn for safety and longevity. This may sound dramatic, but it’s true. Nearly all drone-related safety incidents trace back to poor battery management.

The batteries in your Mini 3 are called Lithium-Polymer (LiPo) batteries. In simple terms, this chemistry packs an enormous amount of power into a very small, lightweight package—it’s what makes this lightweight drone possible. However, this high-energy chemistry demands respect. It does not like to be mistreated. The good news? DJI has made them "Intelligent" by building a small computer, called a Battery Management System (BMS), right into each one. This computer protects it from common issues, but it still relies on you to follow the rules.

Our very first task, before we even think about turning on the controller, is to get all three batteries—and the remote controller—charged to 100%.

The Missing Piece: The Power Adapter

You may have noticed something missing from our inventory list: a wall charger (also called a power adapter or power brick).

DJI, like many modern tech companies, no longer includes a wall adapter in the box to reduce e-waste, assuming you already have one for your phone or laptop. This is a crucial detail. You cannot simply plug the included USB-C cable into any old charging block.

To charge the batteries efficiently, you need a

USB-C Power Delivery (PD)

charger.

We

highly recommend

using a charger rated for at least

30 Watts (30W)

. The official DJI 30W charger is an excellent choice, but any high-quality USB-C PD charger from a reputable brand (like Anker or Belkin) will work perfectly.

If you use an old 5W or 10W phone charger, it will either fail to charge the hub entirely or will take an excruciatingly long time (10+ hours). A 30W charger can charge a single battery in just over an hour.

Step-by-Step: Charging with the Two-Way Hub

This hub is a brilliant piece of kit. Let's learn how to use it.

Gather Your Tools:

Get your three Intelligent Flight Batteries, the Two-Way Charging Hub, the USB-C cable, and your 30W (or higher) power adapter.

Insert the Batteries:

Slide each of the three batteries into the slots in the charging hub. They only fit one way. You'll feel a satisfying, secure "click" as the contacts engage.

Connect to Power:

Plug your 30W power adapter into a wall outlet. Plug one end of the USB-C cable into the adapter and the other end into the USB-C port on the side of the charging hub.

Observe the Hub:

The moment you plug it in, the LED indicator lights on the hub will light up. You will also see the LEDs on the battery

currently being charged

start to pulse or "chase."

What does "Sequential Charging" mean?

The hub does not charge all three batteries at the same time. Instead, it’s smart. It detects which battery has the highest current charge level and tops that one off first. Then, it moves to the next-highest, and finally to the emptiest one.

Why? This is the fastest way to get you back in the air. If you come back from a flight with three partially drained batteries, you don't want to wait for all three to charge a little bit. You want one full battery as fast as possible. This hub accomplishes that.

Decoding the LED Lights

These flashing lights are the "language" of your batteries. It's essential you learn to speak it.

To check a battery's charge (when not in the hub):

Give the round power button on the battery a single, quick press. The four green LEDs will light up for a moment to show you the current charge level.

When the battery is charging (in the hub):

The LEDs on the battery being charged will pulse to show which "quarter" is being filled. For example, if two lights are solid and the third is pulsing, it's currently charging from 51-75%. When all four lights are solid green and then turn off, that battery is 100% full. The hub will then automatically switch to the next battery.

The "Two-Way" Bonus Feature: A Power Bank

The hub has another trick. Notice the USB-A port (the 'old' style rectangle) on its side. If you have charged batteries in the hub, but you are not connected to the wall, you can use this hub as a portable power bank.

Simply plug your controller, your smartphone, or any other USB device into that port, and the batteries in the hub will charge it. This is incredibly useful when you're out in the field and your controller screen is getting low.

Charging the DJI RC Controller

Don't forget your command center! The DJI RC controller has its own internal battery and must be charged separately.

Locate the USB-C port on the

bottom

of the controller.

Plug your USB-C cable directly into this port and the other end into your 30W wall adapter.

The battery level indicators on the controller's screen will light up and show the charging progress.

Leave it plugged in until the screen indicates it is 100% full.

The Golden Rules of Battery Care

This is the most important section in this chapter. Please read it, re-read it, and commit it to memory. Treating your LiPo batteries with respect will save you money, prevent accidents, and give you years of reliable service.

CRITICAL WARNING: FIRE AND SAFETY RISK

Never, ever charge batteries unattended. Do not charge them overnight while you sleep. LiPo batteries contain a high amount of energy, and while failures are rare, they can be severe. Always charge them in an open area, on a non-flammable surface (like a concrete floor or a metal tray), and away from flammable items (like curtains or paper). A "LiPo-safe" charging bag is a highly recommended, inexpensive accessory.

THE COOL-DOWN RULE:

Never charge a battery immediately after a flight. When you land, the battery will be warm from use. Charging a warm battery is the fastest way to damage it.

Always let a battery cool down to room temperature (at least 20-30 minutes)

before

placing it in the charging hub.

THE WARM-UP RULE:

Never fly with a very cold battery. LiPo chemistry does not perform well in the cold (below 50°F / 10°C). The drone will warn you, but it's best to keep batteries in a warm pocket before flying on a chilly day. A cold battery can experience a sudden, catastrophic voltage drop, causing the drone to fall from the sky.

THE STORAGE RULE:

This is the one everyone gets wrong.

Never store batteries at 100% for more than a couple of days.

Leaving a LiPo battery fully charged is like holding a rubber band stretched taut—it puts immense stress on the internal chemistry.

The Fix:

Your "Intelligent" batteries already help with this! If you leave them fully charged, they will

automatically start to discharge themselves

down to a safe storage level (around 60-70%) after a set number of days (you can adjust this in the app later).

Best Practice:

If you know you aren't flying for a week or more, don't charge them to 100%. Charge them until just two or three LEDs are lit. Only charge to 100% the night before or the day of your flight.

THE 20% RULE:

Never fly a battery until it is completely dead (0%). This causes irreversible damage. The drone will automatically try to land when the battery gets critically low, but you should be landing it yourself long before that. As a beginner,

plan to land your drone when the battery level hits 20-30%.
