End to an Old Ending

“We are losing her! She is having a seizure, put the oxygen mask back on.” Shouted the surgeon. Her anesthesia wore off before the surgery was finished but she was not stable enough for her lungs to work properly. Her breathing started to pause and put her in a seizure. She thrashed violently on the operation table. The oxygen mask slipped. One of her hands landed on the instrument tray and flung the surgical scalpels and scissors across the wall. The nurse put the mask back on her and her seizures started to diminish. “It’s all right. It’s all right. Everything will be fine. Just try breathing into the mask. Try thinking of a happy memory, ok? It will calm you down.” The nurse told her while caressing her hair gently.

Happy? She could not remember anything that ever made her happy. She had spent all her life being angry, hateful, and vindictive. The only other emotion she felt was sadness and she did not like it. It made her feel weak. She could not afford to be weak on an operation table. She could not die before completing her task. She focused on a hateful memory, but it was no good, it did not help her breathe. What was she supposed to do now? She was hanging between life and death. All she needed was a happy memory and she could not recall any. Her anger was not helping her through this situation. It had been her most faithful companion, it had helped her overcome the most impossible of situations, but it was betraying her now and she could not understand why. All she could recall was that she was 2SSJ9 and she had a task to complete. She never thought she would need to save any other information, so she discarded all the other memories as useless.

As if the nurse understood her inner struggle and pleaded with her. “If you cannot think of something happy, then think of something sad, I beg you, you need to relax to breathe. We cannot help you otherwise. Sad memories are difficult to delete. You can recall them if you try. Please try!”

Her breathing started to pause again. She stared at the surgical lights right above her. Could she let her sadness show? Could she cry now? It would certainly help her breathe, but it would mean giving up her anger. To her, it meant giving up everything in life. She feared sadness above all. She feared if she let it take over, she would never be able to stop crying until she drowned in her own tears. Could she do that now? She did not have much interest in living, but she could not die before finishing what she had started. What would she choose? Sadness or anger? Life or death? The surgeon inserted a needle into her arm and darkness engulfed her before she could decide.

Salt, Poison, and Murder

One of the greatest tragedies of this life is to be born with an ambition that your circumstances do not allow you to pursue.

You cannot kill the ambition, neither can you kill yourself. Its eternal flame keeps burning until you are exhumed.

To 2SSJ9,

One day you will breathe your soul into your dreams and make them come to life.
