Pentaworld, continent of Nexal, year 1420.
The war between the Deson Bloc, on the one hand, and the Empire of the Hundred Phoenixes, on the other, rages in the continent of Nexal.
The impregnable Idekrad Stronghold is the last obstacle between the Empire's attack fleet and Navan City, the largest metropolis on the continent, the last one still under the control of the Deson Bloc.
The executors, beings with immense powers, had been created centuries before to serve humans, but now they are free and have taken the field alongside the Empire: one of them has been sent to take Idekrad.
"The Night of the Leviathan" is the first story in the series "Executor Hunter", set in the dystopian steampunk universe of "The Pentaworld Cantos" created by Atra.

Year 1420, 37th day of Summer in Nexal continent.
Territory between Seredi Ahili City and Idekrad Stronghold, Subpolar Region (warzone).
The amphibious cargo sailing ship of the Human Forces of the Empire of the Hundred Phoenixes could not approach the stronghold: the risk of being sighted and shot down was too high.
The sailing ship landed, therefore, on the bank of the Navanir River much further north, in an inlet.
Like all executors, Balashir 8 Shilen had none of the typical human senses. He could never see a sunset, hear a melody, smell a flower or feel the texture of a fabric. But Balashir had never felt the lack of it, thanks to the so-called third eye, the only sense with which all the most recent executors were gifted.
He was able to sense the spirits of the soldiers around him, frightened by his presence, even though he was their ally. He saw with his third eye the hatch open: on the ground, pebbles smoothed by the current. A little further on, the coniferous forest began.
Without turning back to greet the infantrymen who had escorted him there, he began to run through the woods, towards the south: the stronghold was more than ten thousand steps away. Moreover, the sun was about to set and the subpolar night would be very short: he had to hurry if he wanted to complete the mission before dawn.
At a certain point, the trees became cold and sad: he deduced that the sun had just set.
Well, it’s night.
The stronghold of Idekrad was the last bastion of the Deson Bloc before the city of Navan, which was located almost at the source of the Navanir River.
The Empire of the Hundred Phoenixes had managed to surround its bitter enemies, the Desons. Almost the entire continent was now under the control of the Empire: once Idekrad had fallen, it would be the turn of Navan, the gigantic metropolis at the South Pole of the Ocean World.
Balashir knew that Navan had the largest academy for executor hunters in the entire Pentaworld. He and his kind would never have risked attacking Navan directly: for this kind of thing, the Human Forces were there.
The Human Forces of the Empire were in fact preparing to siege the city of Navan: to reach it, however, the imperial airships had to pass there, flying over the Navanir, to the Idekrad Stronghold, which had been built on a hill on the edge of the river.
And that’s where he came in: Balashir 8 Shilen was a executor belonging to one of the last generation, the twelfth. One of the most fearsome.
Among the executors of the twelfth generation, those able to move objects even at a distance with the power of the mind alone were called leviathans. And Balashir was a leviathan.
Twelfth generation executors could often stand up to a battalion of hundreds of soldiers. And win.
That’s why Deson Bloc had created the executor hunters. But, according to the spies of the Empire of the Hundred Phoenixes, there were no hunters in Idekrad at the time.
He stopped his run a few steps from the edge of a ravine: beyond, far below, the turbulent waters of the Navanir flowed. He perceived them sharply with his third eye in all their unstoppable power.
