Dear Readers,
I am not a professional writer but I always loved to pen my thoughts in a simple language right from my school days because following every individual with creative pursuits, I believed in preserving the most cherished moments of my life. I would be honest to confess that life has presented in a platter before me umpteen numbers of opportunities to come in close contact with scholars, entrepreneurs. Industrialists and most importantly, ordinary people with extraordinary ideas. The very idea of writing a book emanated from my continued interaction entrepreneurs with innovative ideas during my stint in an entrepreneurial association and honest intent to produce something for entertainment coupled with education for the community as a whole. Since my early childhood, I was a voracious reader and I got addicted to books very quickly, Thrillers and murder mysteries by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie used to keep me enthralled. My appetite for reading was so palpable that it took a heavy toll on my studies. However, the narration of a grand experience in words came naturally to me; it is like "A calling" which was irresistible.
Through the myriad experiences of my life by encountering different kinds of people around us in all strata, I loved to study, analyse and interpret different behavioural patterns. Friends, I would like to share with you that one homogeneous characteristic is prevalent in most of the people I came across, they believe or rationalize what they are doing irrespective of the nature and outcome of their activities. This characteristic is not limited to Homo Sapiens alone, but it is also true even in animals, ranging from the most loveable puppies to fiercest alligator. What I tried to do was to capture the various moments of their lives, their impact, my feelings about them and how I think they could improve upon and transmit their good attributes to others. But in reality, every human being is distinct and we now know through our motivational writers that we ideally should follow the wise and not imitate them.
The most important lesson in life is expression. This is what distinguishes the competent from incompetent, the winner from the loser and the writer from the thinker.
I am sure all of you are aware of Dead Sea, most of us have read about it in geography class few years back. It is actually not a sea but a lake, so high in its salt content that the human body can just float easily. There is no fish, no vegetation, no sea animal, hence the name dead sea.
On the contrary, the sea of Galilee is north of Dead sea and even though both thrive on the same source of water from River Jordan, the sea of Galilee unlike Dead sea is pretty, resplendent with rich, colourful, marine life. The Sea of Galilee is home to 20 different types of fish. The reason is: The River of Jordan flows into the sea of Galilee and flows out which makes the waterbody healthy and vibrant. On the contrary, the Dead sea is so far below the mean sea level that it has no outlet. It is estimated that 7 million tones of water evaporate from the Dead sea everyday, leaving it salty.
This geographical phenomenon changes my total perception about life and the strategy an ideal man should adopt in life. An ideal man should believe in giving back to the society so that he gets respect, recognition and greater wealth. My purpose of writing this book is not about making money but leaving an indelible mark in the minds of my beloved readers through my messages.
Open the taps, and it will open the floodgates to happiness. Make a habit to share, to give.
Part 1
The world which we know is what we see, we physically perceive but there are more things in existence that meet the eye. In common parlance, we as normal human beings don't accept our ignorance and that is where all problems on this earth originate.
It was a dark night at 2 a.m. when most of the living beings should be fast asleep, Rahul was awake on the terrace witnessed something very unnatural, rather supernatural, some shadow of a being (human seems to be) around 7 ft tall walking from the terrace where Rahul was lying to the terrace of the other building and his legs needed no intervention, internal stimulus or external force to stretch so long to cross terraces.
Suddenly Rahul was awake with lot of perspiration. His live in girlfriend Sima woke him up putting her hand on the shoulders of Rahul: again the same dream.
Rahul said: Yes. I couldn't get rid of that horrific dream which haunted me for quite a substantial period of time and subsequently deprived me of the relaxation I deserved after long hours of work at a BPO.” That is probably the cause of his separation from Soumi, the predecessor of Sima and her elder cousin but Sima is much more understanding than her elder sister as far as Rahul is concerned.
It is her suggestion that Rahul and Sima are going out of the hustle bustle of city life of Kolkata for a week to Mandarmani, Digha where the mental condition of Rahul is expected to be better. It has been six months that Rahul has off and on been disturbed by the same frightening dream and Sima who has been living with Rahul for 3 months only is finding various ways and means to give him some solace. Sima strongly believes that few nights out at Mandarmani is not all a bad idea but we never know what destiny has in store for each one of us.
Part 2
The problem of Rahul was not since birth. On the contrary Rahul grew up very healthy in terms of body and mind. The problem came to surface after the mysterious death of his father Late Shri Bhagwan Das who was the co-founder of Das & Brothers along with his younger brother Shri Jagannath Das. Das & Brothers is a garment manufacturing firm having factory at Krishnanagar, West Bengal. After his father's demise, Shri Jagannath Das, Rahul's uncle used to look after his father's business. Rahul's mother lost her mental balance after she received the news of her husband's sudden demise at the washroom of a hotel at Darjeeling around a year ago. She is currently undergoing treatment at a mental nursing home at Kolkata showing little signs of improvement.
Jagannath is looking after the garments business which is currently not in a very good shape. Rahul is alienated from his family for more than five years when he suspected his uncle's illicit relation with his mother Rama. Few days before his father's death, he had a premonition that his father wanted his son back and remain with him. This is what is perhaps called blood relation.
Sima has been a great respite to the otherwise turbulent life of Rahul. Today as they are proceeding to Mandarmani for a pleasure trip, Rahul has made up his mind to patch up with his family, especially his mother since she now needs unstinted support and Rahul is also looking for a shoulder to lean on.
The hotel Red Rose was unimaginably good with sprawling greenery and all modern amenities like swimming pool, multi gym etc. The manager Shri Sushovan Chattopadhyay was extremely hospitable and seemed very caring. He personally takes care of all his guests so that the guests don't have other accommodation when they are travelling in this region. They chose Room No 206 since the view of the swimming pool was clearly visible from the room and the room was also a little more spacious compared to the other rooms which were available on that day. Sushovan also extended the arriving couples the invitation for tonight's musical night by Kumar Arumoy who is going to fill the air with music and unadulterated entertainment. Rahul and Sima would witness the musical extravaganza tonight, their souls would be united with the untold commitment to each other that they would remain united.
"Aar to not beshidin milbo ebaar dujone....ek mone ek prane....”. The eyes of Rahul were fixed upon Sima and when Sima looked at his eyes, she witnessed something what words could not describe. This was followed by other popular numbers which reinforced their unbridled love for each other.
Rahul and Sima got introduced to another couple Meghna and Sanjay who have recently tied up the knot after 4 years of courtship. Meghna is a charming young lady in her mid-twenties armed with a captivating smile and the way Meghna was trying to get close to Rahul, perhaps being mesmerised by his charisma irritated Sima who was ultra-possessive about Rahul.
After a long spell of time, Rahul sank into a delicious slumber in the full moon night.
Next morning was sunny with energy revitalised in both of them and they decided to go to the seabeach at Digha.
Part 3
When Rahul and Sima reached the seabeach to surrender to the irresistible waves of the sea, they were taken aback to see that Meghna and Sanjay were already there. The four really became one and had ripping fun. Sima's jealousy was also short lived and the enjoyment and fun they shared by moving around, dining together outweighed all negative emotions.
One fine morning, when Sanjay and Sima were a little away bathing in the sea, laughing and throwing water at each other out of fun, Meghna and Rahul were resting in the seabeach. Meghna suddenly asked Rahul: Hi, how do you feel about me? Rahul was quite candid in his reply: U r very nice, Meghna.
Rahul and Meghna naturally got close to each other and found peace and comfort in the company of each other, psychologists would attribute this phenomenon as the meeting of minds due to matching of wavelength. Very soon, Rahul thought it would be appropriate to share his deepest secrets in life, his past, his distance from parents and his frightening dream following his father's demise. Unlike Sima, Meghna advised him to join his father's trade as a natural heir instead of allowing his uncle to have his way. Meghna filled in Rahul a sense of responsibility as a natural heir to look after his family business not because of money but because of the future of those whose lives are dependent on the future of the company and hence growth of the company is incumbent to all the stakeholders involved including Rahul. Rahul was suddenly filled with a renewed sense of enthusiasm and vigour which he didn't experience before. He decided to leave his job and join his father's business and take good care of his mother. Meghna had a strong feeling that a person cannot stay happy being away from parents.
His uncle Jagannath also seemed happy when Rahul revealed his intention to look after his business. He revealed with excitement: This is what I wanted right from the beginning, my son, from the core of my heart. Only God knows whether he is speaking from his heart. Sima was also happy and endorsed his decision without any inkling how the idea dawned on him.
