Inspiring Moments: The Poetic Courage of Victor Micah James are nearly 250 original writings of the 21st-century African American poet Michael James Allen, educator and philanthropist. He posits that poetry removes the stigma of political correctness and the societal moral code of what is
appropriate or inappropriate. Moreover, poetry permits the poet to go from the abyss to luscious green valleys to the mountaintop and write poems that address all topics regarding humanity, from love, hate, apathy to lust, promiscuity to living, death, and dying. Poetry is sublime, of excellence, grandeur, or beauty to inspire great admiration or awe. Removing any bias when readers delve into
each poem, the intent is to make you laugh, cry, and think deeply about the meaning of each poem.
Some of them will challenge and perplex you, and some will make you wonder, like “Suicide 1993,” a
poem about the author’s mother who committed suicide. Or “Blackness,” which deals with discrimination and slavery. Others will provoke you to reflect on some aspect of your life, past, present, and future. So, find that special cuddling and serene space! Indulge! Enjoy!

I met the author over 30 years ago; he is my dad. He shared with me his childhood and earlier life of poverty living in Baltimore. It is a life I cannot imagine because of the perks and privileges I was raised in, upper-middle class. I have not met a more gregarious man in my life like him.
As a former ordained-licensed pastor and now educator, he has been helping people; I have heard him share his mantra more times than I care to count (smiling) – “I live to Give! I Give to Live.” Culturally, he appears to be ageless, and he is debonair. He has helped cultivate me into the person I am today and often tells me how proud he is of his Baby Girl.
He is qualified to write, not because he has earned multiple degrees, is an educator, entrepreneur, and an information technology professional, but because his writings reflect some of the interactions he has had helping people.
My involvement with the book was limited, as my dad has an artisan touch with poetry; it invokes curiosity, compels the reader to extrapolate the meanings, and challenges them to consider how poetry is a powerful genre and connects readers to those emotions they would not otherwise.

Who is Victor Micah James?
Flavor me with
A pinch of salt
Crucial to my health
That my nerves
And muscles
Maybe at stealth,
The main source of
sodium and chloride ions
Not supporting cons
But helping to
Purify heart that
I may live on,
Flavor me with
Pinch of salt
Else my pressures low
Putting me in
a dangerous state
Stopping the go.
Regulate my body fluids
Makes me feel suited.
Providing me with the time
Keeping me on the dime,
Keeping to the
Minimal amount
The flavor enhancers
That is a must
Balancing my
Mind, soul, and body
Keeping things adjusted,
Let no one steal
Your pinch of salt
Else the dangers
Be real
Certainly, keeping it
It is a must,
It is a big deal
Cannot live
Without a pinch of salt
Always securing your arrival
But the most important is
A pinch of salt
Keeps you alive
2:02 PM
I am human
At 24,
Yet many weeks
are needed for sure,
My organs are there
Designed with care
Yet, in extreme cases
I could no longer
Be here.
There are some
Who says it right,
Others who say
It is wrong
To destroy my
Soul and body,
The first ten weeks
There are two types
To take away my
Precious life,
Both medical
And surgical
Must it be by aspiration
Or dilation and evacuation,
They have no idea
Of what I could be
Or how God was going
To use me
To be all He wants me to be

The 10th Year - Abyss
The abyss! Hell!
How much longer must the coals burn?
Where is the rain?
Who on earth cares about my soul?
It doesn’t matter if I am growing old!
The abyss! Hell!
Ten years of no-touch!
The burning within is hot.
The mind is scorched.
Loneliness is a dagger.
Pricking the brain.
Where can love be found?
Must I die alone?
The abyss! Hell!
Ten years of no-touch,
Torching me by intent,
Orchestrated schemes,
Plotting my destruction.
Shall I go down like mother?
I am too strong for that,
Nothing in life will cause that setback.
The abyss! Hell!
Ten years of no-touch,
She laughs in her night,
And during high noon,
She tells her kin,
She desires want,
But not willing to pay the price.
Hostility is her anchor!
Scorn is perverted!
Laughter is devious!
The abyss! Hell!
How much longer must the coals burn?
Where is the rain?
Who on earth cares about my soul?
It doesn’t matter if I am growing old!
What good is it to have a home
Paid for that you own?
When no one is home.
It’s like living in prison,
With no connection to a phone!
Silence in the night,
Mute moments at noon,
Tongue cut off much too soon!
The abyss! Hell!
Ten years of no-touch.
She laughs in her night,
and during high noon,
She tells her kin,
She desires want,
But not willing to pay the price.
Hostility is her anchor!
Scorn is perverted!
Laughter is devious!
The abyss! Hell!
How much longer must the coals burn?
Where is the rain?
Who on earth cares about my soul?
It doesn’t matter if I am growing old!
Ten years of no-touch!
Ten years of no-touch!
Ten years of no-touch!
Ten years of no-touch!
The abyss! Hell!
The abyss! Hell!
The abyss! Hell!

Achilles my weakness
Tortured running
Path of mind
Yet the force
Does not renege
Playing my fiddle
Pull down
Fighting the up
Yet knowing
The struggle
Will not stop
No one knows
The abyss
Or the strangle
Hold
Yet daylight
Is midnight
No laying
In bed
But dream
If what
Could be
Just a tender
Moment would
Break the dark
No one but
God sees
My head
What’s feeding
My soul
Yet I must
In earnest
Not to succumb
Achilles my weakness
Tortured running
Path of mind
Yet the force
Does not renege
This sea of
Drought
Dust under feet
Drawing me to
A defeat
I dare not
Claim what
Rips my soul
The inner strength
Knees fighting bold

We March to the
Politically correct
Never ceasing
To detect
There are hidden ploys
Of personal agendas
People seeking more
It’s wrong
To speak
words of harm
When you do
It sounds an alarm
Those who
Endorse this
New day
Have forgotten
How honesty
Will pay
Shoot the messenger
Delivering the plan
And Action Groups
Are ready to demand
When the wind
Drift in
New sand
Carrying fake news
As if a pre-plan
Hearing new voices
Giving new choices
Say it loud
Enough
And kick up
New fuss
Not seeing
The disguise
How the
Instigators have
Planted lies
To reap
The dollar value
Of cunning alibis
With swift deliberation
and subtle communication
New laws are
Given implementation
And when masses
Find out the passages
Uproars are
Now blasted
We March to the
Politically correct
Never ceasing
To detect
There are hidden ploys
Of personal agendas
People seeking more
It’s wrong
To speak
words of harm
When you do
It sounds an alarm
1:30 PM
Energized people,
Coming to from,
Chained to luggage!
Terminal buildings,
Numbers are gods,
FIDs are essential,
Transition routes,
Speaker system king,
Wi-Fi a must!
Food stalls important,
Satisfy the gut,
Souvenirs wanted,
Reminder where been,
Something for loved ones,
And special friends,
Boarding passes,
Without humans!
Dispense from machines,
Computerized technologies,
Generates with ease,
Carry on bags,
Limited in size,
Stewards courteously kind!
9:37 AM
Alone!
Rise at sunset
Lay down at dawn,
Mind in twilight,
Distant from iPhone!
Who is there?
Do they care?
Island midnight
Alone!
Moon dancing,
Sun high
Noonday lullaby,
Feeling insecure,
No love near,
No heart cheers,
Castaway island,
Longing for home,
Bridging nowhere,
Blitz no more,
Reaching skyward
Opening new doors!
Fear not optional,
Shoulders broad high,
Believing, trusting loving
Alone,
Winds from left,
Cold from right,
Laying alone
Night after night!
Heart pulsating,
Pressure control,
Living life boldly,
Carrying my load,
Not counting days
Living a life,
Reaching for success
Always in sight,
Keys in door,
No one home,
Longing for companionship,
Living alone,
Cords of optimism,
Holding together,
Keep me light,
Floating like feathers!
Alone!
Rise at Sunset
Lay down at dawn,
Mind in twilight,
Distant from iPhone,
Who is there?
Do they care
Island midnight
Alone!
2:12 PM
Who’s there?
To whom am I speaking?
Why should I say something, “You?”
Who me? No, I!!
I am a pacifist. No, I am a fighter.
No, you lie!!
Who me? No, I!!
I am a gangster and hard as a rock,
No, I am as soft as cotton and will not knock,
I smile every day and every hour,
No, I frown because of the beatdown!
I long, and I lust and like kinky things,
I don’t think impure thoughts or scenes!
Who me? No, I!!
Who’s there?
To whom am I speaking?
Should I say something, “You?”
I like chocolate breasts!
No, I like red bone!
I desire a hot-looking girl.
No, I desire a fellow.
I like to dress conservatively.
I prefer the erogenous.
Who me? No, I!!
Who’s there?
To whom am I speaking?
Should I say something, “You?”
I praise my God
I praise my devils
I walk in the light of darkness
I walk in the darkness of light
I prefer to be alone
I will instead be with the crowd
I have proclivities and fetishes
I dare not think something amoral
Who’s there?
To whom am I speaking?
Should I say something, “You?”
6:30 PM
Have I told you?
Amazing!
You are loved
Amazing!
You are adored
Amazing!
Speaking you say,
Nothing but everything,
You are motion in silence!
You dance salaciously
With dignity!
Pride dresses you!
Have I told you?
Amazing!
You are my heart!
Cause my soul to cry,
waking me in the middle night,
Fantasizing at dawn!
I am drooling at dusk!
I am panting at midnight!
Eye mesmerize,
Spell me!
Amazing!
Lips glossed sweetly!
Pulsates the blood!
No-touch,
Glares and glances,
the secret weapons you are!
Under the covers!
Not the sheets,
No sex!
No-touch!
No desire!
No lust!
Watching, not a voyager,
Not a Peeping Tom,
Amazing!
It makes me want you!
Never having you!
Calls my name,
Not driving me insane!
Just a dream!
Have I told you?
Amazing!
You are loved,
Amazing!
You are adored
Amazing!
Speaking you say
Nothing but everything
You Wake me up
Amazing!
Whew!
Everything I dreamt,
All that I want,
The inner you from
without,
Feeling the essence
of touch!
You tickle my soul!
Drown my melancholy!
You bring me hope!
Draws me in
I see!
I hear!
I long!
Amazing!
Have I told you?
Amazing!
You are loved!
Amazing!
You are adored!
Amazing!
7:20 PM
How I live!
What must I give?
Shall I be sieved?
Reigning on
This island
Deprived
Or is this
A menagerie of
Bogus lies?
Who said
I must be here
Incarcerated in
My fear?
Who shackles me
In my kind
Seeing not
A kaleidoscope
Of a world
That is and isn’t
kind!
Bad hombres
Exists
And mujer to,
Should not
Dim the tide
Of seeing the new!
Walking this
Elephant
In fields of
Green,
Yet seeing
Horrific scenes!
What strength
Must I pull
To keep up
The pace?
Is there a way
Not to lose
This race?
Strongholds tempting me
Calling my name
But I am holding my
Ground
Protecting my claim!
Ingratitude bastards,
Like vultures flying
Overhead,
Wishing me nothing
No success
But dread!
Must not let
Anyone
Cripple my soul,
For I have Vision
That courageous and bold,
Fighting my demons,
Meeting fate,
Picking my premise,
In this debate,
See my syllogism strong,
Know I will
Overcome any wrong.
How I live!
What must I give?
Shall I be sieved?
Reigning on
This island
Deprived
Or is this
A menagerie of
Bogus lies?
Swift days
Long nights
Yet flying high
Ad a kite,
Not let the
Strings
Entangle
My hope,
But mentally
Keeping
My boat afloat.
Keep on dreaming
When the odds
Seem tight
Be willing to
Die for the
Cause
That I fight!
Let not enemy
Family or friend
Destroy the
Ambition
That lay within.
12:07 PM
Precise beyond measure
Provides deep pleasure
Some people don’t understand
Others receive reprimand
The daily joy
A thing toyed
Aligning in a row
Going at it
As the gratification grows
Phew! The mind beholds
Not caring
What others told
Moving forward daily
With a heavy load
Retentive about
What goes in
Fussy about outcomes
To the very end
Anal
The satisfaction it brings
Euphoric pleasures
Makes one sing
At the end of the day
Or larking night
Will not give in
Without a fight
Twisted mind is called
Like a graffiti artist
Will not give in
Will not take away
An entrenched lifestyle
Day after day
Most misunderstood
Putting it in
Never wanting it out
Creates a mystery
Causes doubt
Anal
7:29 AM
Could I operate
In fear
Or keep the faith
Because fear is a bear?
Or bear my assault,
It makes me strong,
Even when my world
Falls apart!
All things have gone wrong!
The anchor sure,
Against my floor,
Yet tempting
To pull me
Far from shore,
The currents trouble
Bent with force
My anchor holding
By mental choice.
The surf prevails
Over my bower,
Directing to me
What it won't allow,
The strength required
To stay afloat
Refusing the force
To sink my boat.
The materials
And substance made
Standing upon them
I refuse to fade!
My joy anew,
The faith beyond,
Keeps me from
Dusk to dawn!
I dare not say
is an easy task,
Troubles come
But not to last.
The winds repent not,
The sounds surreal
Forces me
Not to appeal,
Resolve intact
Thought my boat
would rock
I have past
Many, tick-tock!
Could I operate
In fear
Or keep the faith
Because fear is a bear?
Or bear my assault,
It makes me strong,
Even when my world
Falls apart!
All things have gone wrong!
The anchor sure,
Against my floor,
Yet tempting
To pull me
Far from shore,
The currents trouble
Bent with force
My anchor holding
By mental choice.
1:52 PM
I hear the voices,
Angels of light,
Demons of darkness,
Calling my name,
Angel guiding me,
through the fire
Demons stretching bob-wire,
An insidious cornucopia,
Of sinister delight,
Engaged in a battle,
A combative fight.
I hear the voices
Angels of light,
Demons of darkness,
Multitude of decades,
Angel protective liberty,
Demons setting blockades,
Taunting my mind,
Spewing lasciviousness, unkind,
Shrills echoing pain,
Labyrinths designed to drain,
What warfare this,
Strangleholds amidst!
I hear the voices
Angels of light,
Demons of darkness,
Sleeping in my bed,
Angels melodious melodies,
Demon’s songs of dread,
Tossing and turning,
Soul on fire burning,
Screaming in noon light,
A horrific flight,
Help me, please,
Give the keys,
Don’t let me drown,
Deliverance will abound!
I hear the voices,
Angels of light,
Demons of darkness,
Angels giving guidance,
Demons giving lies,
Railing harmful alibis,
Sleepwalking nights,
Boxing gloves on,
Challenging day born,
Heart riptide racing,
Try to control pacing,
Scream, scream, scream,
It’s all a dream?
I hear the voices,
Angels of light,
Demons of darkness,
It’s no dream,
Blood on my pillow,
Running down in streams,
Demons laughing,
Fun, full of joy,
Goalie hit to destroy,
Angels refereeing,
Seeing the playing field,
Promise my deliverance,
Giving God’s seal,
Now demons are running,
Defeated in the fights,
I have peaceful nights,
Victorious living,
God’s constant light!
5:55 PM
My anger is a gift.
That I must have
It helps me to grapple
The meaning of life
When right is wrong
And wrong is invisible
When hurt is purposed
Without conscious care
Or the neglect of
Love
Blocks the forest trees
My anger is a gift
That justifies the retreat
When the riptides emerge
And struggle swimming in parallel
To the shore
Never panicking for
Uncertainty
Accepting the challenge
When anger flares
Believing that calm
Will emerge
My anger is a gift
That I must have
It helps me to grapple
The meaning of life
When right is wrong
And wrong is Invisible
When hurt is purposed
Without conscious care
Or the neglect of
Love
Blocks the forest trees
My anger is a gift
That justifies the retreat
When the riptides emerge
And struggle swimming in parallel
To the shore
Never panicking for
Uncertainty
Accepting the challenge
When anger flares
Believing that calm
Will emerge
My anger is a gift
That I must have
It helps me to grapple
The meaning of life
When right is wrong
And wrong is Invisible
When hurt is purposed
Without conscious care
Or the neglect of

Blocks the forest trees
My anger is a gift
That justifies the retreat
When the riptides emerge
And struggle swimming in parallel
To the shore
Never panicking for
Uncertainty
Accepting the challenge
When anger flares
Believing that calm

9:47 PM
I could not hear her.
But I could see,
More than anything
She was my enemy
Of the soul!
A horrendous dark friend
Never accepting the
Mirror on the wall
Always masterfully
Being the center of the ball,
Using wit, lying,
And charm
Not even caring
About those she harms
Taking everything
As joking
Never filtering
Or even realizing
Those she was choking!
So many people,
Family members,
Other kin,
Came to also
Realize she’s an
Enemy and not a friend!
Intellectually sharp
As she could be,
Academically smart
As a flying lark,
Wanted to be grown,
Beyond her years,
Dared to come out
Without consequences
Or fear!
Brags about those
She can attract,
But clueless
About how karma will impact.
Thief and a robber,
Plays psychological games
As she attempts
Having moments of fame!
Her success was built
On what others gave,
Yet her ideology,
And grandstanding
Leaves her lame!
I could not hear her,
But I could see
More than anything,
She was my enemy
Of the soul
A horrendous dark friend
Never accepting the
Mirror on the wall
Always masterfully
Being the center of the ball.

Attacks
Attack my soul and bless me!
Call me Nigga, and I will still respect you,
Curse me, and I will love you,
Piss on me and tell me it's raining, and I will tell the truth,
Anger me, and I will smile at you,
Con me, and you will witness discernment.
Attacks
Gossip about me, and I will tell you my story!
Ridicule me, and I will stand like lightning.
Lie on me, and I will be like yeast bread in an oven,
Hit me, and I will show the definition of resolve,
Pretend that you love me, and I demonstrate authentic armor,
Betray me, and I show you what deliverance means.
Attacks
Set me up for failure, and I will display agility!
Sensor me, and I will show you a revelation,
Attempt to destroy me, and I will emerge as a gladiator,
Shoot me, and I will show you how the God I serve will protect me,
Circumvent my vision, and I will enlighten you,
Cut me, and I may bleed, but you will witness a special anointing.
Attacks
6:22 PM
Hemmed this body,
Say no more,
Attempt to destroy my mind
Get past my door,
Seeing the witness
In poisoning pain,
Refusing to
accept being maimed,
Running the distance
No matter the height,
Forging the unknown
With tenacious sight,
damming the obstacles
But pressing ahead
Reminding myself
I am alive, not dead,
When the bow breaks
And the precipice near
Reminding self to
have no fear,
Grappling with hopes
Never give up dreams
Creating a life
Masterpiece of bright,
Colors and themes
Knowing the Lurkers
who plot and scheme,
Who’s the spirit of darkness
Is hollow and mean,
Yet never accepting
The calamities
Even at tsunami heights
With God-given
Witness navigating
Broken dikes.
10:33 AM
Bag my pain,
Toss it away,
Silence the hurt,
Stop the play,
Fooling with head,
Like I’m dead,
Waited all day,
Held at bay,
Lying true words,
Flying the birds,
Shitting on me,
Not begging plea,
Knife in back,
Syllogistic attack,
Pawn on a chessboard,
Trying to checkmate,
Causing testy debate!
Bag my pain,
Toss it away,
Silence the hurt,
Stop the play.
What false sunshine,
Cause a decline,
Mental, emotional state,
Can’t not relate,
Smooth as satin,
Nailed your pattern,
Playing your roam,
Daily at home,
Leave me alone,
Don’t call the phone,
Bag my pain,
Toss it away,
Silence the hurt,
Stop the play!
Gave you heart,
You shot dart,
Cruelty cuts apart,
Fresh new bread,
Tasty wholesome delight,
Forgetting hellish past,
No more midnights.
Bag my pain,
Toss it away,
Silence the hurt,
Stop the play!
9:58 AM
Must I take
This living thing
That says they
Really care
When beneath
The red blood
Flowing heart
A darkness
Lurks near,
When winter comes
And freezes the soul
It makes matter
Far worse,
Have I been bamboozled
Where is my hearse?
I give my life
helping others in need
they planted corrupted seed!
Through treachery and
Hatred and jealousy
Ripping my heart apart,
Yet I push
The coffin lid
And rise again
On my bed,
To hold my ground
get back in the race
Must I take
This living thing
That says they
Really care
I take my
New mountain.
9:06 AM
Bastard, I am
Not because of me
But mother be
Child of night
Look in mirror
Believe what I see
The charcoal color
Of father in me
Bastard, I am
Not because of me
But Sperm donor
and the moment
No father
No bother
Had the cow
Milked it too
Ghetto housing
No electricity
Kerosene lamp living
