Chapter 1
The sleepy village
Lexa was known far and wide as the fastest runner, even among the older children. She was so excited that this year she would be allowed to participate in her first ever Spartan Olympic games.
As a gifted warrior and athlete, Lexa always felt like a great power within her was just waiting to come out. Something felt different and the princess always knew that somehow she was not like the other children in her village. Often her dreams were filled with images of super strength and lightning speed which only heroes possessed.
Was it just a dream? She thought. Lexa splashed some cool water on her face and it felt refreshing in the hot summer sun. Today, unlike other days, running in the open fields was not on her mind. Instead, the princess thought today would be a good day to explore the countryside with Adali away from the busy Agora city marketplace.
Adali stood proud and at attention as the young Princess laced a saddle on his back. She was excited to ride her steed in the countryside where the roads were full of adventure and activity. Exotic foreigners, travelers, traders, and merchants, came from all over Greece not to mention…
But she wasn’t scared. King Leonides, her father, always forbade her to travel to far. The forest was off limits, unless her teacher and mentor, Sabindor, accompanied her. As she was preparing Adali, a shadow approached with soft steps.
“Princess?”
“Lexa?” “Where are you?”
”Stop playing games and come out, I know you are here!” Bellowed a voice.
Lexa crouched in her hiding spot behind her powerful horse until the time was right.
from behind her horse to confront the stranger with her sword out.
“Are you getting old or I am getting faster” she yelled as she moved with speed and precision.
“You are getting better, but you do not think as you attack” said Sabindor “and that is why my swords are at your sides”.
“You are unstable from your quick leap…and way off balance”.
“Remember your training and be patient” added the Captain of the guard.
tangled in her own feet and fell to the ground.
“Do you see now?” added Captain.
“You ruined my riding outfit” said the princess now angry and embarrassed.
“You may be the descendant of Hercules but even with all your strength and speed you still need to think.”
“If you just react… YOU WILL FAIL!” Sabindor said with a smirk.
“Besides, you are a Princess and being a warrior is not what your father would want for you”.
“Is that why you are here?” said the young princess.
“More duties?” “More training?”
“Or more studies?” she added.
“You are very wise for your age” Sabindor remarked.
