Savva Emanon’s new collection, as the title announces, Luminescence in Verse - Poetry about the human condition, takes its inspiration from the author’s personal experience as a psychotherapist, counsellor, and dance/movement therapist.
With a deep appreciation for having translated his extensive wealth of therapeutic knowledge into the practice of mental health and spiritual exercises and now into verse, these poems convey a profound sense of moving toward a state of bliss, as they make a sincere effort to overcome every human challenge with unwavering positivity and spirit.
The perfect metrical arrangement is also a search for care to make every poetic reflection harmoniously musical.
This body of work is not a magic cure, but if you use these incredible verses as a daily “mantra” you will significantly achieve an inner balance that will make you face the path of life with harmony and lightness.
It is not provocative to say that perhaps today’s world needs more sweet and profound words than a bulimic world of artificial and retouched images: the profound sense of beauty is above all internal and poetry can be an excellent vehicle for this intent.

Savva Emanon is a fully qualified psychotherapist, counsellor, and dance & movement therapist, founder of Calm Mind Counselling Services. Since graduating with honours in psychotherapy and counselling, he has worked with thousands of patients from age 6 to 95 and has truly changed the way people see the therapeutic process regarding mental health: moving people toward greater awareness, potential, and purpose by tapping into their innate body/mind/spirit connection. In addition to his working with anxiety, depression, and trauma, etc… he is passionate about overall health, fitness, and wellness.
As a classically trained dancer in ballet, jazz, contemporary and tap, he has reached gold medals standards in Ballroom and Latin American dance. He performed for many years in venues including the Sydney Opera House, with the Freelance Dance Company. Savva became Artistic Director of Dance Initiative in Sydney. He has also composed music for several of the performances, over those years. Now he is composing music for the Calm Stillness channel on YouTube.
He is currently working on 12 new books in his spare time. He currently lives on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia. www.calmmind.com.au

Acknowledgements

I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation to all the people that have assisted me in following my dreams and passions, for they are my true inspiration.

From my early years at school, where my creativity was allowed to flourish through the support I received from my teachers to the dance years and the creativity that flourished through my choreographic opportunities.

Then to all the life experiences I gained through my intimate relationships and how they taught me how to live in the present moment, without fear, judgement or worry.

Those moments in time have led me to being the person I am today, so with great humility I acknowledge all the people who have allowed me to simply be me.

Their unwavering commitment, love and dedication to my success has been a source of strength and motivation. I am grateful for their contributions and for the positive impact that they have had on my life.

Without their support this book would have remained in the ether and not manifest onto the pages you can see before you.

You know who you are…

Preface

Savva Emanon’s new collection, as the title announces, Luminescence in Verse - Poetry about the human condition, takes its inspiration from the author’s personal experience as a psychotherapist, counsellor, and dance / movement therapist.

The choice to order the poems alphabetically, while on one hand it would seem to reveal a certain need for an orderly path, in reality it hides an almost constant logic, where some words and expressions constantly recur, as if to remind us that in life certain moods, thoughts, actions and relationships are necessary if we want to live peacefully, and that we need to count them, like a fixed point.

The perfect metrical arrangement is also a search for care to make every poetic reflection harmoniously musical.

Try reading them aloud, reciting some metrics, you will almost feel relieved and happy!

But the skill and originality of this “artist of the word” does not end here. He amazes by sometimes using archaic words, little used, but which recall the sighs of ancient poets, as in “Love of Mine” playing with thee, thy, thou:

“…Oh, sweetest love of mine, my heart doth sing,

With every thought of thee, my soul takes wing,

Thy beauty shines as bright as the noonday sun,

Thy grace and kindness make my heart undone.

***

In every flower, every star, every blade of grass,

I see thy face, and my heart beats fast,

For thou art the love of my life, my sweet,

The one with whom my soul shall ever meet.”

A positive and optimistic connection pervades every verse, even towards violence, Savva has a constructive approach that overcomes terror and damage and invites the reader to peaceful action, conscious of that greater awareness, potential, and purpose inside human beings, where love should be the “norm”:

“It’s a curse that we bear, a burden we share,

A wound that we carry, a pain that’s not rare.

This violence is rampant, a terror so real,

A world in peril, a world we must heal.

So let us come together, and break this cycle,

And build a world, where peace is the miracle.

Where love is the norm, and violence a thing of the past,

A world where the wounds, are healed and do not last”

Not even agony seems like a threat when you have the certainty that faith and hope will heal every wound and joy will come:

The weight of the pain, it bears down on me,

Making it hard to rise, to be set free.

But I know, this too shall pass, with time,

And the sun will shine again, on my life’s rhyme.

I hold on, to hope and to faith,

And try to find comfort, in this moment of grace.

For I know, that with each passing day,

Agony will lessen, and joy will come my way.

So the darkness should not be feared, because the light will always shine again:

Embrace the darkness, with open arms,

For it holds the answers, to life’s many harms.

For it’s in the blackest night, that hope is born,

And the light of tomorrow, breaks through the dawn.

Life and its soul permeate everything, even after death.

The Poet in fact reads:

“In the memories we keep and the love we share,

In the moments we treasure and the joy we bear.

For death may take our bodies away,

But it can never truly steal our soul’s ray.”

Recurring words that reconnect us, those full of positive inspiration are often present: joy, happiness, peace, love and light embrace every line in a joyous whirlwind.

This body of work is not a magic cure, but if you use these incredible verses as a daily “mantra” you will significantly achieve an inner balance that will make you face the path of life with harmony and lightness.

It is not provocative to say that perhaps today's world needs more sweet and profound words than a bulimic world of artificial and retouched images: the profound sense of beauty is above all internal and poetry can be an excellent vehicle for this intent.

Abundance

Abundance, oh how it flows,

A river of riches endlessly grows.

A gift from the heavens, a divine grace,

Bringing joy, peace, and a smile to one’s face.

The sun rises every day,

A new dawn, a new way.

With its light, it brings new hope,

A sign for many, that we can cope.

The fields are lush and green,

With crops that sway and dance, unseen.

A bounty of nature, a feast for the eye,

A reminder of plenty, as we watch them go by.

The birds sing their song,

A melody that can’t go wrong.

Their joyous trill, a sweet refrain,

A symbol of abundance, of life’s sweet gain.

The stars twinkle in the sky,

A diamond-studded canvas, soaring high.

Each one, a gift from above,

A feeling so full of God’s boundless love.

The ocean crashes at the shore,

A symphony of waves, forever more.

Its power and majesty, a breathtaking sight,

A movement of nature, in all its might.

Abundance is not just about wealth,

It’s about a life that’s abundant, with health.

It’s about love, happiness, and peace of mind,

A life filled with purpose, a life of kind.

So let us embrace this abundance, so true,

And be grateful for all that it brings to you.

For it is a gift, a blessing, a grace,

A symbol of the beauty, of this wondrous place.

A Broken Heart

A broken heart is a weight that bears down,

A burden that crushes, a soul that drowns,

It’s a wound that festers, a pain that’s real,

A feeling that nothing can ever heal.

It’s the memory of a love that is lost,

The hope that’s dashed, the dreams that are tossed,

The emptiness that’s left behind,

The tears that fall, the heart that’s blind.

A broken heart is a maze to navigate,

A journey that’s hard, a path to create,

It’s a puzzle that is missing a piece,

A riddle that is hard to release.

It’s the anger that is hard to contain,

The regret that is hard to restrain,

The sadness that is hard to explain,

The longing that is hard to maintain.

A broken heart is a test of strength,

A trial that lasts for an unknown length,

It’s a challenge that can’t be ignored,

A battle that must be endured.

It’s the hope that still flickers inside,

The love that still lingers, a heart that won’t hide,

The courage to start again,

The faith that love will come back in.

A broken heart is a journey of self-discovery,

A chance to find a new inner harmony,

It’s a reminder of the power of love,

A lesson that’s hard but worth the shove.

It’s the strength to move on,

The power to let go and forgive the wrong,

The beauty of a heart that’s still strong,

The promise of a future where love belongs.

For every broken heart is a chance to mend,

A chance to find a love that never ends,

A chance to grow and start anew,

And find a love that’s honest, pure, and true.

Agony

Agony grips my heart, like a vice so tight,

Squeezing out all the joy, till it’s just night.

The pain so intense, it feels like it’ll last,

An endless cycle, that’s sure to surpass.

The tears that fall, like a river down my face,

Reflect the sorrow, that I can’t replace.

My mind races, with thoughts of all the why’s,

Making me feel lost, and full of desperate cries.

Memories of laughter, now distant and dim,

Fade into darkness, like a candlelight’s flame.

The world around me, seems to lose its light,

And all that’s left, is a world full of night.

I try to escape, the pain and the hurt,

But it follows me, like a shadow in my dirt.

I search for comfort, in people and things,

But the agony lingers, like an eternal sting.

Anxiety

Anxiety, a storm that brews within,

A tempest that tosses the mind,

A fear that grips and won’t let in,

A feeling that’s hard to find.

It’s a cloud that darkens the sky,

A wind that blows with great force,

A worry that continues to multiply,

A thing that takes its course.

It’s a weight that drags us down,

A burden that’s hard to bear,

A feeling that wears us out,

A stranger that’s always there.

It’s a voice that whispers doubt,

A worry that chokes the heart,

A fear that won’t back out,

A dread that tears us apart.

But though it may seem so strong,

We must remember this truth,

That anxiety is not our song,

A part that’s not for us to choose.

Let us face this fear with grace,

And find the courage to be strong,

For in our hearts, we hold the space,

A strength that will lead us home.

Being Lightheaded

A feeling that creeps in, so surreal and light,

A mind that’s detached, a body that’s tight.

A world that’s spinning, a head that’s in a haze,

A struggle to focus, a battle to daze.

The clouds in my mind, they dance and they swirl,

A symphony of thoughts, that never unfurl.

A dreamlike sensation, an eerie delight,

Being lightheaded, a surreal sight.

It’s like floating on air, with no grip or hold,

A world that’s surreal, a story untold.

The ground it feels distant, the sky it feels close,

A mind that’s disconnected, a heart that’s composed.

It’s a state of mind, a place of serenity,

A peacefulness that’s real, a state of clarity.

The worries that linger, the stress that does weigh,

Are lifted in this moment, in this surreal place.

Being lightheaded, it’s a journey of sorts,

A trip that’s not taken, with trains or with boats.

It’s a state of mind, a journey within,

A path that’s uncharted, a story to spin.

Embrace this feeling, with open arms wide,

And let it take you, to places untold inside.

A world of your making, a story so bright,

Being lightheaded, a journey of light.

Being insecure

Being insecure, a state so common,

A feeling that’s often felt and won,

A battle within, a war inside,

And a feeling that leaves us feeling denied.

It is a voice that whispers low,

A shadow that never lets us go,

A doubt that creeps into our mind,

And a fear that leaves us feeling confined.

Being insecure is a heavy load,

A burden that’s hard to shed or unload,

A constant reminder of what we lack,

And a feeling that makes us take a step back.

It is a voice that tells us we’re not enough,

A thought that’s hard to shake or shrug off,

A fear that holds us back from shining bright,

And a feeling that clouds our sight.

Being insecure is a lonely road,

A path that’s filled with doubt and woe,

A journey that’s marked with pain and strife,

And a feeling that cuts us like a knife.
