Into the Heart of Venice
„Otto formaggi?“
That question threw Lucia, who was usually never at a loss for an answer, off balance for a moment. One could clearly see her facial features slowly slipping away. Wordlessness was not usually her thing and she had never been known for her lack of repartee. Together with Mafalda and Alma, she sat at the old-fashioned red checkered table of the Trattoria Al Galeon in the central part of Via Garibaldi in Venice, waving her hands uncertainly and not knowing what was happening to her.
“Eight cheeses?” Lucia repeated incredulously after a while. She didn't know how to answer the question posed with a mischievous smile by Ornella, the sturdy waitress. In fact, she didn't even understand the meaning behind the question, while Alma, who was sitting opposite her, slowly began to laugh under her breath. And now that Alma was laughing, it only took a few seconds before Mafalda joined in with her giggling. Lucia still didn't understand anything and looked helplessly back and forth between her two best friends and the waitress.
