There are countless coves, natural pools and small beaches, places for swimming, sunbathing and natural showers on various hiking trails. A breathtaking view of the Serra da Baliza (Balise Forest) and the Vale do Moinho (Windmill Valley) enchants visitors from all over the world. Let me invite you to an extensive photo tour through this beautiful Brazilian landscape.

In this eBook: Focus on Poço Encanto and National Park Parque Nacional Chapada dos Veadeiros. Useful tips and information about the interesting tourist area Chapada de Veadeiros / Goiás: tourist destinations, tours, arrival, accommodation, food, climate, travel tips, travel documents, Portuguese crash course and more. Dozens of photos of different tours through this breathtaking landscape of natural parks full of waterfalls.

Poço Encantado

On the trip through the Chapada dos Veadeiros you can explore countless places, many of them outside the national park "Parque Nacional Chapada dos Veadeiros". But Poço Encantado is probably one of the biggest surprises of this trip. To get there you have to take the non-asphalt road GO-237 from Alto Paraíso de Goiás towards Cavalcante and follow it for about 53 km. Entrance to the park exclusively with guide. A biodiversity, not to be surpassed, awaits you, among other things Pau-terra-vermelho (Qualea multiflora), caju-do cerrado (Anacardium humile/cashew), copaíba, violetwood pau d`arco roxo (Tabebuia ipe), cervo-do-pantanal (Blastocerus dichotomus), Brazilian Jaguar, Guará wolf, sparrow, king vulture. Climate tropical-humid, dry in winter.

For local travel agencies (agência turística) it is obviously unusual to organize this tour; don’t ask me why. Possibly Poço Encantado is not as famous as the waterfall Santa Barbara, this world-famous postcard collection of the Chapada dos Veadeiros. Poço Encantado is, as the name suggests, a huge natural pool at the foot of an immense waterfall (except in times of drought). The route is easy, even for inexperienced people and for those who do not want to make long hikes, but still enjoy an overwhelmingly beautiful waterfall in the Chapada. This beautiful waterfall has an optimal natural wide pool and a quiet beach. This is a perfect environment to spend some hours or even all day. A beautiful blend of beach and waterfall. There is also a small local infrastructure with cafeteria (lanchonete), toilets and showers. Travelers who want to save money are advised to organize their own snack; Do not ask me why. A hanging bridge provides direct access to the waterfall. The easy hiking trail of only 200 m includes the bridge, which can be easily reached; Also suitable for children and elderly people.

Chapada dos Veadeiros

The Chapada dos Veadeiros is a charming region with typical Savannah scenery, full of waterfalls, springs and rivers, overall a truly stunning landscape. It covers several municipalities in the north-east of Goiás, including Alto Paraíso de Goiás, Sao Jorge, Cavalcante, Teresina de Goías and São João d'Aliança.

The nearest airports in this region of rare beauty is located in Brasília, about 230 km from Alto Paraíso de Goiás, accessible via cobbled street of excellent condition.

Many of the tours offered in the Chapada are also suitable for children or elderly people, even suitable for wheelchair users, easily accessible, excellent for swimming, additionally with comfort of restaurants, shower and toilet. Since many of the waterfalls belong to private farms ("fazendas"), one has to pay entrance, which is somewhat higher during the high season. Currently (as of 2016) the entrance fee in Poço Encantado is 15 reais (Brazilian Real BRL) per person. Honestly not too expensive, measured by the immense beauty of this place!

From the restaurant of the farm you can already see the waterfall; Not even a professional photo can reflect the divine beauty of this place as in natura! And the more you approach the waterfall it becomes more and more beautiful. And do you know what is best? The short hike; Only 200 meters, which is about 5 minutes only.

Oh, here I would like to mention just a little, what I have noticed very positively: On NONE of the many hiking trails that we have entered and walked, I have never seen a trace of garbage (for example, thwarted by tourists), not even one piece!

And what about the famous swimming pool at Poço Encantado? So this is really the very best!! There is even a sandy beach for sunbathing! Flat on the edge (in the front great for children, but do not mislead, further down in some places it reaches 8 m depth). For the kids safety, take a swimming aid or life jacket with you to be on the safe side. For the adults, we had taken pool noodles; Worlds best idea! We also enjoyed the stand up paddle in the waterfall (20 reais, half an hour).

In the high season you can also find coconut water sellers. Soda, juices, wine and beer only in the restaurant, where you can pre-order your lunch (eg chicken, fish, beef, feijão, tapioca, pastel, fries, sandwich etc.). The prices we found o.k.

How to get there?

Poço Encantado is located 52 km from Alto Paraíso de Goiás, GO 118, direction Cavalcante, already in the district of Teresina de Goiás. For those who live in Alto Paraíso: Just go out of the city, turn right, then go straight. The street is in a very good condition, even in the high season. You spend a lot of time on the road, without even seeing another car. The entrance to the waterfall is well signposted, it is on the right side.

For those who are accommodated in São Jorge: Head towards Alto Paraíso (out of the city, then left), past Alto Paraíso, without entering the city, just in the direction of Cavalcante. Another 35 km drive approximately.

The waterfall of Poço Encantado with a magnificent view and excellent bath time was definitely worth the trip.
