The ship began to slow down the approach. All the crew were at their places. Despite the maneuvers had been tried in simulators during the training, and repeated in dozens of missions, spaceship men and women feelings were almost palpable in the air.

This time was different, Roa was sure, this was the right planet.

“Captain, the sensors confirm our probe's results!”

“Dr. Roa, it's not the first time that we believe we have found the right planet” Zinix did not want to delude once again the crew.

“It's true, commander, but we are observing evolved life forms… they seem like dinosaurs.”

“They seem like? Is it your professional opinion?”

Roa blushed due to this small rebuke, but immediately get a hold of herself: the discovery she has just made was too important. They were on a mission from many cycles now, and this was the twenty th… no, twenty fourth planet explored, and in her heart Roa knew they had found what they sought.

“We are in stationary orbit, captain. Now I convey controls to the processor.”

The pilot could finally relax the muscles: the task, now, was finished. Zinix turned his gaze to the armchair left arm, activating the communicator.

“To all the staff, it's captain. We are in orbit. Officials in tactical room. Let's start the rounds provided by Protocol One.”

Each member of the crew had a smile on his lips. It was beginning the more exciting part of the mission, the part for which they were trained, for which they enrolled in Space Marine. In tactical room, in addition to the doctor, captain and pilot, there were lieutenant Adora, chief engineer, dr. Creperi, and chief officer Trico, mission security officer and second in command of Zinix. Everyone at his post, with monitors displaying millions of data, was revising the protocol procedures.

Creperi began to summarize planetary data.

“This planet has about forty multi cycles. Its distance from the star, the stable orbit around it and the presence of its own satellite, suggest the high probability of the development, in the future, of sentient species.”

Everybody glanced up from the monitors.

At last they had found a suitable planet.

Zinix wanted to be sure.

“So, doctor, we have found a planet fitting Protocol One?”

Roa was walking on clouds. The one who discovered this planet was her, the youngest of the crew and the more knowledgeable!

“To tell the truth, captain, I'm not so sure.” Creperi added.

Roa could not understand and intervened in the debate.

“Dr Creperi, my analysis and the computer projections give a probability greater than the 73.6 percent…”
