While the one sister is down-to-earth and sensible the other one is strongly romantic and sensitive. The novel deals with the question if sense or sensibility should triumph when it comes to make a successful match. "Sense and Sensibility" is still one of the best-loved and essential classics in English literature. Like Austen´s other novels it retains a fascination for modern readers, and receives considerable attention from literary scholars. Modern interest in the book has resulted in a number of dramatic adaptations and an abundance of novels and stories imitating Austen’s memorable characters or themes.
