Fire. Screams. Chaos. I run. I run away from the castle, my home, the only place I ever knew. I look behind me and see the werewolves gaining on us. Picking up the edge of my dress and I try to run faster.
“Lucine!” I stop and turn around, seeing my mother sprawled on the floor.
“MOM! Come on get up!!! Please!” I yell, grabbing her sleeve.
“No. Lucine. Take my necklace and GO!” She yells back.
I took the precious necklace, looked at the werewolves, and fled, leaving my mother to be captured. I ran into the dark forest, the only place I thought I could lose them in. I looked back, tripped, and then saw darkness.
I open my eyes, and closed them again, blinded by the sudden light. I sit up, slowly and open my eyes again. I look down behind me at my wings. Yes. Vampires do have wings. Its pointless though because we can't even fly with them. I look around and notice I’m in some sort of burrow. I look down and see I’m in a bed. I get up and walk towards the light.
“I see you’re awake. Good,” I turn quickly in the direction of the sound which was actually right behind me. Werewolf. I step back and fall back.
“I won’t hurt you,” I think it was a he. Its voice is deep.
“How do I know I can trust you, I mean, you could turn me in any second,” I say, fear in my voice.
“If I was like the others, then I would have turned you in when you were in the stage of unconsciousness. Here, let me help you up,” he held out his hand, and I hesitated before I took it.
“What’s your name, and why aren’t you turning me in?” I ask almost as quickly as I'm on my feet.
“I’m not like the other werewolves. Ran away when I figured out my dad killed my mom. The only thing I had left of her is this necklace, which I can’t seem to open,” he replied.
“I have one too. My mother just gave it to me, when I had to leave her behind,” I think about her and accidentally bite my tongue with one of my fangs.
“For a near sixteen-year-old I thought you would learn to stop biting your tongue,” he says walking over to what I think is the kitchen.
“How did you know?”
“I can smell pain or fear. Your pain overcame your fear for a second so I thought you might have bit your tongue. I also saw your mouth jerk a little bit,” he says, pouring water into two wooden mugs.
“No not that. How did you know I was nearly sixteen?”
“Everyone knows when the princess's birthday is, including me. And that’s only thanks to the fact that my sixteenth birthday is on the same day,” He hands me a mug and motions me to sit at the table fit for four people next to the kitchen.
“Wait, so you’re the missing werewolf prince, Soren!?” I choke on my water at the shock. That meant our birthdays were only in… wait, “How long was I knocked out?”
“Around two days,” he says calmly, sipping his water.
“TWO DAYS!” I yell. That meant my birthday, and Soren’s was tomorrow.
“I see you’ve finally figured out when your birthday is. Has your mother told you anything about your locket?” he asks looking at it curiously.
“Only that it belonged to her. Why?” I ask immediately.
