On June 12th 1995. Joey Nashimlea attended a fire camp to become a fire-fighter. Him and a few of his friends Joey is only 17 years old. He was trying out for his fire station North Sydney fire. He has been trying for a long time because he wants to be a good firefighter and this time the chief came to him and said “I have decided that you can join the station. Welcome aboard”. Joey was so happy he jumped in joy. Joey went home to tell his mom (Tracy) she said “great job. I knew you could do it”. Then at 3:30am joey got a call for a fire out on memorial drive because sydney mines fire was tried up with a fire on pitt st. Joey got out of his bed and rushed to station ladder 1 was pulling out Joey hoped in brush unit 1 and turned everything on and rushed out of the station. The building was up in flames, it was the bottle depo and it was all in smoke. Joey said to dispatch the page to all units from Georges River fire department because it was too big for just them. When Georges river fire got there the forest behind the depo was catching on fire and they said all hand from sydney mines fire please respond because sydney mines was done on the pit st fire. They also called all hands from the Florence fire. The fire was getting too big and they had to shut down Memorial Drive from Yorke st- Tobin road- Tobin Ave. The fire was getting bigger and bigger. Chief from North Sydney dispatched out the Coxheath fire department for extra assistance with the fire.
