Life Coach

Life Coach

“What do you mean, you’re from the future?” the man asked. He looked tired and sleepy.

The woman shrugged. “Exactly what I said. I’m from the future. From the year 2067 to be precise.”

He crossed his arms. “Okay. Prove it.”

“You have to understand, I have little leeway in what I can actually tell you about yourself. If I interfere too much, I risk negating the very future I’m warning you about.” The woman’s words were practised, well-chosen. It was as if she had done this many times.

“Sure, I get it. But you have to tell me something,” the man said. He sat on his desk and propped down his guitar on the floor stand.

“I am allowed to predict certain events that have no influence on you. For this day and this day only, I will be your life coach. I will guide you to your proper path so you can achieve the greatness that’s in store for you.”

“In the future.”

“In the future, yes,” she nodded.

“How soon is that?” he said annoyed.

“Timeframes are some of the things I’m not allowed to say. Could I trouble you for some coffee or something? This will take some time.”

“How rude of me, sure.” The man stood up and prepared coffee for them both.

She spoke as he worked. “Do you have a television?”

“Nah, I don’t watch TV. I prefer to work on my songs.”

“That’s nice. I’ll only need it to prove to you that I’m authentic. The live-feed from your laptop will do,” she said, waiting.

“Um, my laptop is busted. Don’t have the money for repairs. Take my tablet, it’s a bit slow, but it does the job.”
