The Philosopher
By Lonnix Reign
The philosopher, as he was known, woke early in the crisp cool air of the quiet morning. The day had been renewed and so had he. His mind was heavy like a stone such as it is when one first arises from the bed. Like a dead one being resurrected to take on yet another day in a world where change is always needed and welcomed by those longing for a better world. Sometimes dreading the day when we first start it out and we can only hope once it's done that we are one step closer to the true life where everything will be sorted out.
Smoke was surely the aroma in the room from all the smoke from days and even months before, as he lit his pipe yet again. He couldn't help but to burn and inhale the fiery minty leaves like he often did. "I do smoke a lot or maybe even too much," he thought. "It is the spice in this soup of life," he said to himself, "Yes, life is filled with many flavors and this smoke is just one of many that I currently desire or choose."
He was packing the last of his things as he sipped on the coffee. First he had it sweet with the sugar and then a cup of it black to take with him as he departed from his home. He loved the robust flavor of the pure coffee but sometimes the sugar was needed, because well we need it sometimes. Not to mention how good a donut would be since he had hardly eaten the night before. He spent the hours of his last night here drinking some wine for the first time in awhile. It's better when you don't have it as often he thought.
On this island of Xeros on the planet of Shallar he had been staying for the last few years giving speeches to all who were interested. But now on this clear morning underneath the flawless beauty of the dark sky he was departing on a spaceship back home. He was returning to Earth for the first time in 20 years, as he had been traveling the stars from planet to planet since he had left. He could see the bright flickering of the ship gliding slowly towards the island from so high above.
"I will now be one with space again and one with another ship that is space. As I leave this planet I do for sure leave some of myself behind, just as some of me was here before I arrived. For sure we do become the world around us. We exist as one with all that we are within. We too become the other people, yet we always are them, and one does not have to be close to connect to anyone or anything. For everything is one and that is what makes life so limitless, so much endless life working together as one."
There were people gathered by the river near where the ship port was. They embraced him with their voices for the last time as he embraced them too. They said, " We are sad to see you go, for you have been a blessing to us, Teacher, will you tell us of the great questions of life and give guidance to our souls one last time?" He replied "As I pass by you and embrace you for the last time I can feel the joy you give me and I soak it in. You are like this river, we are all like it. This reflection of self, of the world is truly ourselves and the world. For we are all reflections of each other and everything a reflection of everything else."
He spoke to them, " Just as these waters connect all the land masses here, the waters of time connect us all and we are the world. Also, we are the waters and space is the land we travel. Just as the world goes through changes, our lives too change, creating different paths before us. There are times when the path before us is not so nice and yet we must eventually travel it. But know that we travel together and when the path is a troubling one that we will overcome it and in the end we will see the truth that we need to be troubled every now and then to see how we must worship life when the path is nice."
"For there would not be any sun if there wasn't the burning of the fire. There wouldn't be the flavor of your favorite soda or beer if there was no burn to it. And there would not be any running and jumping through the lands if your body did not burn with weariness afterwards. It's not that the burning makes these things, but that these things create the burning. For love is what makes loneliness able to exist."
"Notice how I did not say hate or what some people might say is the opposite of love. Because hate in an evil manner is just that, its evil. All things that true wickedness encompasses are in a way a result of us living in Paradise for so long. But it's time is very temporary and the evil doers are an illusion in our minds. I say to you surely the evil shall end and be forgotten and only even exist as much as a grain of sand is to the world. For surely we live in peace and happiness usually, but this time now is as rare as that grain of sand as the evil lurks here. Just know the evil is false and does not truly exist."
They said to him, "Oh Philosopher, you have taught us many things, and when not teaching you have been mostly quiet and out of the way, please tell us what the secret to life is if you could give us just one to know." He spoke to them, "It's funny you put both my silence and that question in one sentence, for they are the same to me. If there's one thing I have learned from all my time in this life it is that it is best not to speak to people unless I have something important to say. Well, something important or maybe I just really need to talk at that moment."
