Eve sat quietly in the outdoor patio of a neighboring Starbucks, mindlessly stirring her drink while she waited for the person she was meeting. She glanced down, looking at her finger that held a breathtaking diamond engagement ring. She still couldn't believe it. Her and Matt Carter were getting married and soon. He was adamant on not having a long engagement. He had told her he had waited his whole for her and he had no intentions in waiting any longer. So with that laid on the table, their wedding was to be in October, only three months away. Eve laughed to herself thinking back at the conversation. Matt wanted a summer wedding, she wanted a fall one. So after some harmless bickering, Eve turned on the seduction tenfold rendering Matt speechless for the night. By morning, it was a fall wedding for them. October was special to Eve; it was when they officially announced they were a couple. Once that had been decided, its full speed ahead planning, with Leslie and Tristen at the helm. She thanked God on a regular basis for those two, they were a blessing.
Now with everything wonderful that filled her life, one could only question why she felt something was missing. But Eve knew why. There was something she had to do, wanted to do for as long as she could remember. She just hoped that the person she was meeting could help fulfill her lifelong dream. If that happen, then she would truly have everything she ever wished for. More importantly, this dream would be something of her own.
“Eve...Earth to Eve. Come backkkkk” William smiled waving his hand in front of her face to snap her out of her trance. Returning to the present, Eve looked up smiling as she embrace one of her closest friends.
“Thanks for coming, Will”, She motioned to the chair across from her as she reclaimed her seat.
“Sooo…” William started as he settled into his seat, “What's up? You were pretty vague on the phone so needless to say I'm intrigued.”
Eve threw a coy smile, “William, what would you say if I asked you to help me make a dream of mine come true?”
William cleared his throat and shifted in his seat, “Ummm I guess I would ask why you're asking me and not Matt?”
Eve shook her head in understanding almost knowing that would be his first question, “Simply, I need this for myself. I don't want family or even my future husband to be a part of it. I have to do this alone.”
“Well now I'm definitely intrigued, so spill,” William commanded taking a sip of his caramel coffee drink.
“Okay this is what I'm thinking…”Eve began, pulling William in deeper with every idea. And so, it was born, the beginning of making Eve's dream come true.
3 Weeks before the big day…
"Ms. Perry would you please hold still while I finish up here," Mary said as she placed a few more pins into Eve's wedding dress.
"Sorry Mary, I just can't believe I'm getting married in 3 weeks," Eve said tearing up yet again.
"Quick Tristen get the tissues before she gets mascara all over the dress," Leslie joked with Eve as Tristen rushed over with a handful of tissues, "Or you can use them for some extra padding, not like you need it though," Tristen joked along.
"You guys I just can't believe I'm marrying Matt, love of my life, in 3 weeks, and there's still so much to do," Eve said taking a few of the tissues from Tristen to dry her slightly dampened eyes.
When she picked out her dress, she knew the minute she saw it, that it was the one. The dress she had dreamed her whole life of, to marry the man she dreamed her whole life of and it was now reality and no longer a dream. She cried the minute she tried on the store one. The dress was a champagne-colored ball gown. It was made with embroidered French silk and Italian satin that extended to the floor with a detachable, cathedral train. The neckline was off the shoulder with short caplike sleeves and up close the dress contained patterns of roses. To say the dress was remarkable would be an understatement and Eve was breathtaking in it.
Now here she was getting the final alterations done and soon she would be walking down the aisle to marry Matt. After the engagement party thrown by the guys for them, things just seemed to fly by. First deciding on a date, had been a task in itself, but a fall wedding prevailed. Then it was setting up a church, reception hall, flowers, cake, a DJ, bridesmaid dresses, and decorations all had started taking a toll on her and Matt. Matt would have it no other way but to help plan the wedding, he wanted to be involved in everything. Eve was surprised that he wanted to help pick out all the decoration and flowers, since most men aren't into that element of planning. Matt though, he was a big part in planning the wedding or, "the big event" they were now calling it, as much as she was.
The guest list was the biggest project of them all. That took several weeks to be finalized with the help of Leslie and Tristen who were on Eve's beck and call night and day. Her nor Matt could have done it without them. They became regular guests spending many nights at their house to help finish everything up. The invites were all out and now here they were, days till the actual wedding.
"Eve we're almost done," Mary said as Eve's cellphone started to ring.
"Leslie get that for me please, Mary will have a fit if a move," she said as she smiled down to the older woman sticking more pins into her dress. "I be careful missy, I would not want to stab you with one of my pins by mistake," Mary laughed back at Eve.
"Hello Evey's Phone," Leslie said as she answered it, "I'm sorry she is getting alterations done to her wedding dress right now. Can I take a message?" Something Leslie was getting a little to used to doing was answering Eve's phone for her.
"William," Leslie said surprised looking at Eve. Eve heard Leslie say his name as she flung her head around to look at her and waved her over to hand her the phone.
"Hey you," Eve said once she had the phone and listened. All eyes were one her as she talked even Mary stopped pinning her dress to look and see what was going on.
"Yeah, I am," Eve said, "Umm I can't right now, maybe later," she whispered, but everyone still heard what she said.
"Okay I will," she paused, "yeah that sounds great to me," she paused again. "Okay Bye" she said hanging up the phone and handing it back to Leslie. Eve didn't seem to notice or really didn't care that everyone around her was staring at her like she had three heads.
"Are we almost done?" Eve asked looking at the woman who was standing there wondering what she should do next, "I have somewhere I need to be." Mary did what she was told and returned to the task at hand as Tristen and Leslie looked at each other both thinking the same thing: What the hell was going on between Eve and William?
A few days later everyone was at Tristen's home getting ready for Matt and Eve's surprise Wedding Shower.
"So why do you think William was calling Eve," Leslie asked as her and Tristen finished up the last of the decorations.
"I don't know, I asked Eve last night about it and how she left after the alterations so fast but she said it was nothing to worry about," he said handing her the same tape to finish hanging up the last banner.
"What's going on with Eve?" Aaron asked walking over to join Tristen and Leslie.
"Nothing," they both said in unison.
"Oh, I thought I heard you say something about William and Eve," Aaron continued to pry.
"Nope Aaron, think you heard wrong. hey can you go get the card box and put it over by the gift table," Leslie asked.
"Sure no problem," as Aaron rushed off.
"We've to be careful what we say, specially with my Mom here. She's not to keen on the idea of Matt getting married. She still is on the 'he's killing his career and any solo opportunity he has' routine." Leslie mocked.
Tristen wasn't too fond of Jane Carter. He was just happy that Eve didn't know what Jane was saying behind her back on a daily basis voicing her displeasure to Leslie and the rest of the Carter kids while she showed fake support to both Matt and Eve. These actions lead to Leslie constantly informing Tristen of what she was saying.
"I can't believe with the wedding only weeks away and she's still saying shit like that," Tristen seethed as Jane walked into the room.
"Do either of you need any help?" she asked.
"No Mom I think we're just about done and everyone should be arriving soon, is all the food ready?" Leslie asked.
"Yes," Jane said as she sat down and watched the two finish up. "How did the alterations go for Eve's dress?”
"Great, the dress is beautiful and Eve is radiant in it. She will take everyone's breath away the day of the wedding," Leslie swooned.
"That's nice," Jane said with no enthusiasm at all as the door bell rang.
"I'll get it," Tristen said rushing off before he hauled off and killed the future mother-in-law.
"Sergio you made it," Tristen gushed as he let his friend in.
"Like I would miss this," Sergio replied. Tristen didn't have long to talk, as other guests were right behind Sergio.
"Tattoo," Tristen said as he grabbed Lucas into a bear hug, "Were you trying to sneak in here without saying hi?"
"Nah Tristen you could never miss me, you have some sort of obscure radar that always seems to detect me within a 10 mile radius," Lucas laughed.
"You're looking good, putting a little meat on those bones I see," Tristen said as he looked Lucas up and down, "So where are the rest of the boys?"
"Here they come now," Lucas said pointing to Kevin, Howie and Brian walking up to the house.
"Come in come in to my humble home," Tristin said ushering them in. Once everyone was there they waited for Matt and Eve to arrive. Tristen made the rounds talking to everyone. Eve's Uncle Steve would be escorting Matt and Eve to the shower, and on que he called Tristen to let him know they were almost there.
"Okay they'll be here in a few minutes so everyone quite down," Tristen announced.
"Like they won't know we're all here with the cars parked around your home Tristen," Lucas pointed out.
"No they won't even notice since none of you parked in the drive way, smarty pants," Tristen shot back.
Tristen peered out the window just in time to see Steve pull in to his driveway. "Okay they're here, SHH everyone," as he rushed to be at the door.
"Eve remind me again why I had to come over," Matt pouted as he walked up to the door, he felt like a third wheel when Eve, Steve and Tristen got together. All the stories they would start talking about that he had no part in.
"Matt stop pouting, we're going over final wedding plans," Eve said as she quickly kissed him on the tip of his nose, "plus think how many more of those you'll be getting later when we get home," she whispered in his ear.
"I like the sound of that," Matt said locking his arms around her and drawing her back into him
"Do you two ever stop?" Tristen said when he opened the door.
"I don't think so this is all I ever see them do when I'm around," Steve said laughing at the two, "oh to be young and in love."
"and getting married," Matt and Eve said at the same time.
"Okay come in come in," Tristen ushered them, letting Steve in first with Matt and Eve to follow.
"SURPRISE," everyone yelled out once they entered the living room. Matt and Eve looked at each other in shock, they did it again. Here were all their friends and family throwing them a wedding shower. Eve teared up looking around the room at all the smiling faces. So much love shared for both her and Matt and their special day coming up.
"Thank you all so much," Eve finally choked out with Matt holding her at his side. Eve and Matt made their rounds saying hello to everyone and thanking them for making their engagement a truly special. Tristen announced the food was ready as everyone made a bee line for something to eat.
"I can't believe they did it again," Matt shook his head in disbelief, pulling Eve down onto his lap.
"I can't either, we truly the greatest friends and family in the world," she said kissing him.
"Hey save it for the reception, don't want you two to get all kissed out," Aaron said sitting down next to them.
"That's not possible with these two," Lucas said laughing as he joined them, "trust me."
Eve got up and kissed both Lucas and Aaron on the cheek, "I can never get kissed out," as Matt stood up and pulled her back into him, "keep those lips where they belong, on me," as he kissed her deeply.
"Man save some for the honeymoon," Tristen said entering the room.
"Would you listen to all of them, they throw us this shower and they don't want to see us kissing." Matt said. "I think just for that, I'll have another," as he pulled Eve in for another heart-bursting kiss.
Once everyone had ate and a few shower games were played with all the men groaning at having to play as well, it was time for Matt and Eve to start opening the gifts.
"Now remember every ribbon you break is how many kids you're going to have," Leighanne reminded them.
"What?" Matt said never hearing this before.
Eve looked at him shaking her head, "it's an old wives tale, when a ribbon breaks it symbolizes having a child.”
"Do you want me to make the ribbon bouquet," Leighanne asked Leslie, wanting to help in some way.
"Yeah that would be great," Leslie said taking some of the maid of honor duties off her, she didn't know how she was going to make the list of guest as well as make the ribbon bouquet at the same time. Matt looked at Eve again to explain.
Brian stepped up for this one, "Matt all the ribbon is collected and that is the bouquet that Eve will use for the rehearsal. Don't worry I didn't know this stuff either till I got married."
"Wow the things you learn with age," Matt said as the room erupted in laughter.
Once it was settled who was doing what Matt and Eve started opening their gifts, Matt took the challenge of trying to not break any of the ribbons on the gift but failed on the first attempt and gave up after that.
"Hey I can afford a house full of children," he laughed as everyone was keeping count which was now up to 5.
As the next gift was handed Eve's cell phone started to ring which was over by Leslie. Eve looked at Leslie who was already rushing off to answer it. A moment later Leslie returned with the phone and a disappointed look as she handed Eve the phone.
"Hello," Eve said when Leslie handed it over. "Oh Hi umm yeah just a minute," Eve said, "I have to take this call if you'll all excuse me for a minute," as she got up making her way to Tristen's bedroom.
"Who's that?" Matt asked when Eve left the room, looking at both Tristen and Leslie who were exchanging glances.
"I don't know Matt, just said it was important that he talk to Eve," Leslie informed him.
"He," Matt said surprised, "Oh, I bet it's the priest”.
"Yeah I'm sure that's it," Leslie said glancing back at Tristen letting him know that it was who he thought it was, William.
Eve returned shortly, "sorry wedding stuff," she lied. Her and Matt finished opening the gifts and when they were done they thanked everyone for their gifts and for coming.
Everyone started to clear out, it was getting late and had been a long day to say the least. Eve wanted to stay and help clean up, so she sent Matt and Uncle Steve home with all the gifts. It was the least she could do after the lovely party Tristen and Leslie threw for them. Leslie said she would bring Eve home, plus her and Tristen wanted to talk to her about what was going on with William and this would be the perfect opportunity.
"Wow we're finally done," Eve said flopping down onto Tristen's couch after they finished cleaning and taking all the decorations down.
"Yeah," Tristen said plopping down next to her and Leslie taking a seat on a chair next to them. Leslie confirmed Tristen's fear that it was William calling again.
"Eve," Leslie said, "I don't mean to pry but why has William called you twice in the past few days."
"Yeah hun, inquiring minds want to know," Tristen added lightly.
Eve looked at the both of them, she didn't want to lie to them, but right now she had no choice.
"It's nothing guys really, we're just friends," Eve said sighing feeling the weight of the world on her back lying to her best friends.
"Just friends," Leslie repeated. She loved Eve, but her brother's welfare came first. She knew what happened with William and Eve when she was on tour with them. Tristen had filled her in and Eve confirmed it. The only guy she ever kissed with that much passion other than Matt. Yes, she was upset and intoxicated when it happened so Leslie never thought twice about it. She also knew Matt knew nothing of the kiss shared between the two, and it was obvious to both Tristen and her that William still had feelings for her. The thought that Eve could be cheating on Matt with him was killing Leslie. She knew for once Matt was truly happy and in love, if this ended things between them it would kill him.
"Yes, you guys really think I would do anything to ruin what I have with Matt, I adore him with all my heart and soul. I would never ever cheat on him," Eve said looking at the worried glances between Leslie and Tristen.
"No Evey we don't think you would cheat on Matt, we just want to know what's going on?," Tristen said putting a comforting arm around her.
"I think I should be getting home to my soon to be husband, do you mind Leslie," Eve said glancing at her. She was still upset and confused on what to believe about Eve and William.
"Yeah, we can get going." Leslie said standing up with Eve.
They said their goodbyes to Tristen and headed off. It was a quiet ride home as Leslie drove. She didn't know what to say, all she could think of was her brother being crushed by Eve's actions and with William none the less.
Once they pulled up to Eve and Matt's house, Eve looked at Leslie, "Les you got to believe me when I say I love your brother dearly and would never ever do anything to jeopardize our relationship. I know you're worried I can see it all over your face," Eve sighed as Leslie didn't respond.
"I believe you, I know you love Matt," she finally said looking at Eve. She knew deep down Eve loved Matt, but sometimes people make stupid mistakes that they just don't know how to deal with. She wasn't going to push the issue any more, maybe it was just bad timing on William's part but something still didn't sit easy with her.
"Okay well I will let you go and you'll be over tomorrow, I want to get the thank you cards out right away." Eve said.
"Yeah I will be over, you can count on me," Leslie smiled back at her.
Eve pulled Leslie into a tight hug, "If I don't say it enough thank you so much for all you do, you're a life saver and I love you."
"I love you to Eve, I will see you tomorrow," Leslie said as Eve opened the door to exit the car.
"Okay tomorrow, drive safe," Eve said as she closed the door and made her way into her home. There, she found a very tired finance sprawled across their bed dead to the world.
Once changed she climbed into bed and curled up next to him, "I love you so much Mattolas Gene, now and forever," she said as she kissed him lightly and slipped into a deep sleep next to him.
******************
The next afternoon...
Leslie showed up around 1 pm to help Eve out with the thank you cards. Eve had everything out and ready to go.
"Les," Matt said grabbing his little sister in a bear hug lifting her up.
"Matt put me down," Leslie laughed as he hugged her.
"Come on in sis, Eve is in the living room getting everything ready."
Leslie followed Matt into the living room where Eve was seated on the floor in front of their coffee table already addressing envelopes.
