FOREWORD

Winning the Prize is an excellent presentation of the Christian walk and its ultimate goals. This is not an ordinary book because it is geared primarily to young minds from about age 8 to 16 and older. The contents are immensely practical and the steps to a mature walk with God are made very attainable. In a time when there is such a battle for the minds and affections of our youth, these simple but powerful truths reshape, redirect, and fortify the character of our young people. What we think takes us somewhere and becomes our destiny. Therefore, I recommend that the eternal seeds of truth that permeate this book be planted in the hearts of your sons and daughters.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I would like to give recognition to Dr. Paul G. Caram, my spiritual father. This book is filled with truths that he has taught over the years. Thank you for your enduring example in the vision of winning the Prize.

I also want to thank all who have helped in the development of this book through encouragement and input. More specifically I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the following:

Hilary Sigsby—the photograph portrays the triumph of Winning the Prize. You did an incredible job. Thank you for your readiness to help out.

Gary Perkins—I knew the cover would be very important but had no idea how to accomplish that. You rescued the cause with your proficient touch. I love it!

Elton Cooper, and Stephen and Sarah Brogan—having lived outside of the United States more than half my life, I tend to forget my English grammar rather quickly. Thank you for your skillful help in proofreading the book.

Rebecca Russell—I want to extend my deepest thanks for the countless hours in the challenging task of “polishing” this book. With your standard of excellence in editing, you have become the back bone of this book.

Sonia Rueda, Jorge Chacón and Carla Borges — I am very thankful to the Lord for how He amazingly put everything  together. Thank you for your valuable help in the  final touches of the book, formatting and preparation for printing.

Without the help of the Holy Spirit this book would not be a reality.

DEDICATION

This book is humbly dedicated to the Lord Jesus Christ to whom my desire is to bring forth a harvest of fruit for eternity. I also wish to dedicate this book to my daughter Camry Joy. I was inspired to write the book in aid of her gaining insight in the vision of Zion at an early age. May you come to win Jesus as your Prize.

Chapter One

Made By and For Him

I really enjoy making bread. I love the delicious smell that spreads throughout the house while it is baking. I love how it looks when I smother it with melting butter while it is still warm from the oven. But what I enjoy the most is the pleasure I get when I am eating it. After all, that’s the whole purpose of making bread. We make bread for the purpose of enjoying it after it has been baked. In the same way, you and I have a purpose for being made. If you have ever wondered what your purpose is for being alive and on this earth, the answer is found in the Bible. We are told that we were made by God, and for Him (Col. 1:16). Now, you and I are NOT a loaf of bread. We are precious human beings. God made us, and our purpose is to bring Him pleasure (Rev. 4:11).

You and I were made so God could enjoy us. God longs to have fellowship with us through His Son Jesus Christ. He wants to know us and He wants us to get to know Him as well. He is looking for friendship, one that will grow with time. (Heb. 2: 10) This is an amazing thing to think about: the God who made the entire universe created you, because He wants to have you as His friend!
