Published in 1847, Jane Eyre charts the life of the title character from childhood to adulthood and her romance with the enigmatic Edward Fairfax Rochester. The novel is not only a classic romance and mystery (I'll wager that Mr Rochester has a secret or two that we'll find out about before the story ends) but is also rife with social commentary of the age. The cruelty of institutions and society at the time is highlighted in the story as Jane navigates her way through life. At its heart though this is a very compelling and rewarding story full of memorable characters. Jane Eyre also has a rich almost Gothic atmosphere that draws you into the novel. The enduring fame of this novel and the strength of the story is such that it has been adapted into over twenty films and countless television adaptations. Jane Eyre is deservedly considered to be a classic novel and is one of those books that everyone should read at least once in their life. (3) Taylor said the first song she learned to play on the guitar was Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer. Sixpence None the Richer is an American alternative rock band that gained popularity in the 1990s and early 2000s. (4) Taylor famously spent the first part of her childhood on a Christmas-tree farm in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Taylor said this made for a strange but enjoyable childhood. Slaughterhouse-Five, or The Children's Crusade: A Duty-Dance with Death, was first published in 1969. This is the most famous novel by the brilliant Kurt Vonnegut. Slaughterhouse-Five concerns a character named Billy Pilgrim. Billy is an American soldier who becomes unstuck in time after experiencing the destruction of Dresden by Allied bombing during World War 2. Billy jumps around into different time zones and has what can only be described as a unique experience. (13) Taylor said that winter is her favourite season of the year. (14) In contrast to most people, Taylor considers 13 to be her lucky number. (15) Taylor is a fan of the film Rear Window. This is a classic 1954 suspense thriller in which James Stewart plays a photographer recuperating with a broken leg who comes to suspect that one of his neighbours is a murderer. There are ten songs of (mostly) tremulous beauty and gentle enchanting simplicity. Joni Mitchell is mostly accompanied throughout by just a guitar or a piano and wrote the album in Europe at a time when she was disenchanted with performing and her personal life. The paramount appeal of the album though is of course the singer's honeycombed voice rather than her soul searching lyrics (which are sometimes heartfelt, inventive and touching and sometimes a trifle pretentious). At its best, Blue is like falling into a trampoline made of marshmallows and then being wrapped in the world's most expensive and softest toilet paper and thrown into a swimming pool cushioned with jelly. Blue is a great album overall, full of beauty and poignant gentle music.(23) There is an episode of The Big Bang Theory where Sheldon is revealed to be a Taylor Swift fan. (24) Taylor has cited the actress Audrey Hepburn as one of her fashion and style influences.  (25) Taylor Swift's parents are named Andrea and Scott.
